Still pretty new to the game but in auto can't you mostly/partially mitigate that by tapping the clutch when going uphill or into any terrain that may cause a gear drop? Even if so, not having to remember to do that is probably preferable.

Hey man, good stuff. One thing id like to add is I've noticed (using a controller on PC) when youre stuck, if you pull the R trigger only partly in Low or auto, it slows your wheels down to get rid of wheel spin in addition to using lower gears. Sometimes even just half trigger accelerating on its own works. It sounds pretty obvious, but I just found out recently and I have around 500 hours on this game. Maybe I'm slow haha

You keep saying that it's more fuel efficient to coast in neutral but i'm pretty sure it's the other way around (talking about real life) As long as you have a car with fuel injectors you save more fuel by motor breaking when going downhill than if you put it in neutral. This is because the computer senses that it doesn't need to burn any fuel since the engine is being driven by the wheels. The injectors completely stop injecting fuel as long as you don't accelerate which turns your fuel consumption to litterally zero. If you on the other hand disengage the engine from the wheels it has to use fuel to stay at an idle since it can't use the free energy from motor breaking anymore.

@@ATribeCalledCars I don't blame you since this is one of the most interesting things you can read about as a regular commuter lol. Is there a rule of thumb to know whether your car does this or not? Since this is a pretty important feature for regular commuting i would guess that atleast 90% of cars have this feature nowdays and that this rule is pretty accurate as far back as like 2005, since that's when i think car companies really started implementing it. I haven't seen any information about this at all though and this is just my speculations lol. Do tell me if you have actually seen any info on when they started implementing this feature.

  • @ATribeCalledCars

    @ATribeCalledCars

@@realdealman5594 I think if you have carburettors it gets tricky. Fuel injected should be in favour of not coasting, although engine braking will limit the speed you gain on a hill you could use for getting up the other side. In the instance (ignoring the safety aspect), being in gear would lower your fuel economy and use more fuel to 'catch up' to the car coasting. A lot of new cars actually coast by disengaging mechanical elements, so basically whatever reduces friction and fuel the most is the dream!

I give all of my trucks the off-road gearbox. When I'm on rough terrain, I use low gear, usually with difflock on at least. When I'm on a road, I use the "low +" gear. Not the fastest way to get stuff done, but it works for me.

I never use Off-Road Gearbox with any truck that has permanent on (or no diff at all) Diff-Lock. You technically have Low+ by utilizing Auto's 1st gear. Which is the same speed of Low+. But of course, Auto shifts erratically so in order to negate that issue, I shift to low whenever it shifts up to 2nd, then go back to low. Potentially downshifting it.

Go's so quick that the rear end struggles to lay down the power so tyre choice of more highway suited makes even more improvement. Though all up pick a tyre to suit the places your driving through rather than purely for launching hahaha.

Maybe it’s just me but I feel like low gears just limit speed. I understand that a lower gear count will limit how fast the wheels can spin but it should also affect power delivery. Like going up hill with a heavy load. In low- the engine won’t need to work as hard to move uphill and can keep the wheels turning but all it does is limit how fast the wheels spin. I wish there was a mod that gave actual power multipliers to different gears.

I want to love this game, but I’m playing American Truck Simulator and it’s so much dang fun to shift gears with a real clutch and shifter. I’m waiting until a manual transmission comes out I’m this game before coming back. It sucks because this key function was in mudrunner. I pray they add this soon or atleast some day. Until that day I’ll be shifting gears in my big rig on ats/ets2...cheers..✌🏼 pray for this game and it getting manual gearbox option..👏🏼

I bought the game and couldn’t find the missing KEY function and tried to play it with only automatic and it was boring af. They got me hooked on shifting. I’ll come back when they put this back into their game. All good. I’m not asking for anything crazy. Just put it back like it was in mudrunner. No big deal. Pce..✌🏼

@@MrDrHouse no, this is a huge feature that was in both other games. It should have been in this game at launch. They are doing all this stuff with mods and releasing dlc and all that. I’m just asking for a small thing that is a huge missing feature. They should have never released this game without this. It works great in mudrunner and works great in spintires. Honestly without a manual transmission option it deserves a bad review. It’s literally half a fun. If I could use my clutch amd manually shift my gears like the other two of their games I would have a million times as much fun and I wouldn’t be complaining. Once again it was them that got me to like this in the first place. This is their third games like this and the prettiest one so far, but graphics aren’t everything. Snowrunner NEEDS a manual mode with shifter and clutch support or I won’t play it. It’s. It not hard to understand. Take care. Good day..✌🏼

At least that's what we usually do for our friends who are new to the game. Help them get a Tayga and a Loaf and, then we proceed to drive the most inappropriate trucks just to get that extra bit of challenge out of the repeated missions. The phrase "we're coming to rescue you!" now instils both relief and fear in our friends now. On the one hand, your mission is going to be fine. On the other hand there is now a caravan of the biggest vehicles in game coming to crane you out, refuel you from a semi-trailer and provide far more repairs and spare wheels than your vehicle will ever need. It's gonna be a clusterfuck and you're smack dab in the middle of it. Should you reset, no problem, we'll drive an intercept route to come and "rescue" you. Also I told all 4 of my cats about you and was met with a mixture of yawning, unimpressed meows and, general apathy.

For all of you who have English as their first language: KZread has an irritating feature that automatically translates video titles into the system language. It's not very good. German has two different words for different types of gears. The gears in a gearbox are called "Gang", but gears in most other contexts, in machines and whatnot, are called "Zahnrad" (which by the way literally translates to "tooth wheel"). I don't understand how the translating algorithm managed to choose the wrong word for "gear" when translating the title "gears and gearboxes". Sorry, I just had to get my frustration about this confusing, useless feature out.

Voron are Russian aren’t they? How would a Russian pronounce Voron I wonder. I doubt they’d say Vorrrrrr on, or Voh rone. I’d imagine it would be the o found in the word ‘on’ twice. Like vo ron; o rather than oh. Let’s ask a Russian.... any Russians in here?

In my opinion the gearboxes in these games are garbage. I wish there was a full manual mod or something. Why cant scout trucks just have a 4 speed with hi/lo range. The Big trucks would have a 10 or 15, 18 speed. All with a overrev risk of engine damage. and even a possible clutch. More like BeamNG Drive. It would feel more simulation and engaging.

Very true, SnowRunner is quite basic in terms of gears.

And the low gear in the game is just a joke, instead of more torque like irl it lowered the torque and gives a traction bonus. I doubt there will ever be a kind of realistic manual gearbox mod as I heard the gears are simulated by lowering the friction on the tires wich seems far off realistic

If you cant use a clutch and sim shifter that would be lame. If I cany hook up my shifter, this games trash. I'll find out shortly.

Not having manual gearbox option (same as mudrunner) is a manual downgrade of the game. This is the missing feature to make this game perfect......I dont understand developers.......really....they had it perfect in Mudrunner, missing feats there were the mirrors, just that...why you would spoil the 2nd game by not bringing this option to table?
