Snowmobile avalanche. Life can change in a minute.

Спорт

I set off avalanche above Wolf Creek pass on March 7th 2015. I am lucky to be alive. 3 minutes into video is when it happened. Be safe and pay attention to the conditions.

I am surprised that a previously chopped up slope didn’t stabilize. There must have been a layer of hoar frost down 2’ to give a definite slip line and the snowmobiles were only cutting up the top few inches

Thanks for having the guts to post a video where you and your group did multiple things wrong. I mean the thank you sincerely. A guy in my old riding group died 2 days ago in an avalanche, and it's coming up on 4 years ago that I lost 2 friends in one avalanche. (Sounds like I run with a dangerous crowd, but I know a lot of people, I've lived in a couple different states, and I'm both a snowboarder and a sledder, so pretty big pool of people) Why I thank you is this: if even one person who watches this and says "what an idiot, anybody could tell that was going to slide" then has the thought while they're out riding "what would the youtube comments on this gopro video be?" and then makes a better choice that saves their life or the life of someone downslope of them, then your poor choice will be redeemed.

South facing rapid heating slope with signs of previous slide activity. 2 on the hill at the same time and then after all those mistakes you are wearing a 1000$ back pack designed for exactly what happened and you didn't pull the cord. You are one lucky guy to stay on top like you did. With that snow type it would have been like being buried in fast hardening concrete.

Thes is why people need to speak up when they're uncomfortable about something in the backcountry. The guy who came top to him after the slide said "i knew that was going to happen. That side went, that side went why wouldn't this one?" Thats something that should have been said before anyone ever rode there in the first place. Mistakes were made, but you're around to learn from them. Glad you're ok, could have been a lot worse! Nice job fighting through as much as you could at the top, way less snow to bury you!

I can assure both of you fuckwits that I live in a very large mountain region of Canada and riding two strokes is almost a second nature, no shit you can't hear voices over the sound of them, but you have to keep a close eye on each other to make sure no one gets lost or injured and before you ride on any hill you have to determine as a group weather it's safe or not and always wear a beacon, and if something feels off, flag them down and tell them about it!
