Snowfeet* & Skiskates Tutorial - How to Become a PRO Skiskater

Спорт

This video is a tutorial on how to use both Snowfeet and Skiskates and become a PRO in this new winter sport called skiskating.
IS IT HARD TO LEARN?
Many of you have asked if it’s hard to learn. Skiskating with Snowfeet or Skiskates is actually pretty easy. It is as hard as learning to ski or skate. In fact, many people find it even easier. However, it takes some time and you will definitely fall now and then, but that’s part of the fun.
One of the keys, is to keep the front-back balance. If you play ice hockey, ice skate, or even use inline skates and it should come pretty naturally for you.
BODY POSITION
A common mistake many beginners make is they spread their legs too wide and have difficulty controlling their ride. Instead, keep your legs at about shoulder width. During the ride, you can also place one foot in front of the other if you want to increase your stability.
Another common mistake is keeping your legs straight. Instead, you should keep your legs flexible and slightly bend your knees to have a better balance.
WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION
Don’t place your weight over your toes like you would with skis, because sooner or later you will fall. Instead, place your weight over the middle or back of your feet.
What that does is puts your center of gravity over the middle of your feet or over the heels. This will prevent you from catching the tips of your Snowfeet or Skiskates into the snow.
It is a bit harder to use skiskates on ungroomed terrain. In these conditions, it’s best to bring your weight over your heels and lift up your toes to prevent falling as you go over bumps.
TURNING
Turning is pretty much the same as turning with skis. Just tilt your skiskates to their edges and move your body and legs into the direction where you want to go. Actually many people find turning with Snowfeet or Skiskates easier than turning with those long clunky skis.
SKATING
The best way to start your ride is to skate like a hockey player. Push your legs sideways. Do not put your weight over your toes while skating, otherwise, you might catch the tips in the snow.
STOPPING
You can stop the same way you stop with your skis or skates. This is also called a hockey stop. Make sure you distribute your weight evenly over both of your Snowfeet to make you stop easier and slower. If you need to slow down, simply use a heel brake.
HIKING TRAILS
Skiskating on hiking trails is our favorite way to use Snowfeet. Depending on the terrain and steepness of the trail, you have to adjust your body position. If the trail is steep and difficult to ride on, lean the upper part of your body forward and spread your arms to maintain your balance. Again, keep your weight on your heels and use the heel brake to slow down when necessary.

    I work for Vail Resorts as a lifty. I decided to buy a pair over regular skis or a board. It took me 5 days of constant practice (and a ((this was on me)) cracked tail bone) to be able to go down the slopes. I have no previous experience with winter sports either. It's fun as a lifty because I stand out against the other employees and they're just fun in general

    For those wondering, these are really good. I personally got some for my gf and I so we could slide down the hiking trails in Canada. We really enjoy them, really fun to use, I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to skiing but I don’t fall to often, only little downside for a beginner is how to brake, it’s hard at first. I got the base model. :) really my favorite thing to do this winter!

    I have the ski skates with snowboard boots and bindings. I’m not good at ice skating but I am good rollerblading. These are like both together. I stop like I have ice skates on. They are very fast so sometimes when I stop I end up over compensating and end up in a 180 or 360 and then keep on going. Going backwards is fun but if you catch a bump you’re going down hard. I’ve had no problems hitting ice patches or fresh powder. Reaction time is great I can avoid people very easily it scares the krap out of them…I have been stopped at a lift till they see the ski skates and go what the??? Followed by a nice!!! How are they? I also find them useful when helping my kids learn to snowboard cause I can get really close to them with out having the issue of my board in their way. They are also not as expensive as some people think. Especially if you have boots already (around $300 add about another $350 if you need boots) my snowboard w boots and bindings ran $500+$350+$300 total $1150 then add tax. So these really aren’t expensive. Get them learn something new and have fun!!!

  • @Snowfeet

    @Snowfeet

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ervin :) The edges are supposed to be right on the edge (pun not intended), so when you turn or brake, you are using the metal parts for it, so it is effective. They should be on the same level as the plastic thin lines on the bottom. If not, you might be dealing with a cheap counterfeit. If you want, you can send me a picture to our email (hello@snowfeetstore.com) and I'll have a look at it :) Have a nice day ~ Martin

  • @Snowfeet

    @Snowfeet

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Susie :) Most of the ski resorts allow this kind of “short skis” on their slopes, but not all of them. Our experience is that if you act as if you were skiing with your traditional skis, no one will bother you. And if that happens anyway, argue that Snowfeet are safe and the base of Snowfeet is made of the exact same metal ski edges as all the other skis, which is the most common requirement of ski resorts. And don’t forget the great thing about Snowfeet is that you can always use them in so many other places, like hiking trails and sledding hills. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out. Have a nice day! Martin

    Wow! I just got back from sking in Colorado for the first time and... I HATED IT! The skis are wayyyyyyy to long, heavy, clunky, and you need immaculate upper body strength to move forward since you CAN NOT walk with those long heavy skis! I felt hopeless and Paralyzed, after three hours of trying and just not having any fun just pure frustration and hell I finally ripped them off and went hiking and I felt so much better and free! I said to myself I wish I could Invent ski’s that where shorter so you could walk and use your heel to stop, I also openly spoke to my boyfriend whom Is an amazing Ice skater and plays hockey for his team every Sunday that it would also be cool if there were skis that where built like ice skates ⛸ since ice skating is like riding a bike, hard the first time and easy once you start doing it ever so often.. low and behold we leave Colorado after talking about wishing there was something like this made in the universe and BOOM I was on Instagram and the ads where trying to sell me snow feet and ski skates!!!! TWO items I wanted to make in my head while I was on the slopes with my long ass skis stuck in the snow feeling like a stuffed Sumo wrestler because you have to wear so much clothing in cold inclement weather and feeling paralyzed because no one understands skis ARE HEAVY!! I’ll be 100% trying both these items next year when I go back to Colorado to Conquer the slopes the right way! I’m sure I will fall for the first hour or two, but at least it looks fun while doing so! Falling with 50 pound skis is an awful feeling. Thank you for making something I’m sure I would have made I was considering getting children’s size skis so I could walk and move more freely, have my legs back you know lol. I’m reading the reviews right now, nothing but positive feedback! I’m glad someone thought what I was thinking of last year while I was on the slopes having the worst time of my life a few weeks back!
