Been riding for 30+ years, and I still wear pads. I don't hit the park or big jumps like I did when I was young, but others on the slope still crash into me, and pads have saved me more times than I can count. I also board with skiers, so when I stop to take videos/pictures, I am on my knees a lot, and knee pads are a must.

@@MountainMitchYT I found some flexible volleyball kneepads at the thrift store and tried them. No more knee pain after that despite slamming in to boulders, rocks, ice, shrubs, etc. at a hairy backcountry spot I ride. I can drop down to a hardwood floor strait to my knees with a loud thud, but no pain.

Demon gear is awesome on the snow. Wrist guards, impact shorts, knee pads, and a padded top have really made me enjoy any kind of day on the mountain. It really aids in my progression because I can test my limits and if I fall, I just get back up nbd. I can taco on a rail or tube and I feel nothing. :) I want this to be a life long hobby. Risking injury means less time on the mountain.

Yes armor is great for beginners! If you're hesitant to invest money, you could always just get some cheap wrist guards and a butt pad. Being a beginner is tough, it took me 3 lessons to be able to link turns. Also I highly recommend using Bataleon snowboards as they are very catch free but still cambered. After a year or so of riding, you will get to a point where falling isn't an issue one bit, trust me. I just wear armor for that one chance in the next 30 years I mess up bad. Or for trying new tricks, and other reasons.

    @JeremyLynnesАй бұрын

If you're learning this all makes sense (albeit a little expensive). Especially the butt pads. Wristguards are the one thing I'd keep using regardless of skill level (and a helmet of course) While years of boarding have trained me not to put my hands out, you never know. Not to say you're not going to fall or get injured even if you're an experienced boarder but the additional weight and the decrease in mobility killed the whole armor thing for me when riding (especially kneepads and chest protectors). At some point you'll be good enough that you're not falling all the time and you're not sitting in snow that you can 'grow out' of most of the armor. Just my 2 cents after 35+ years of riding snowboards in Tahoe.

My shoulder disagrees. This is ideal for everyone learning on a resort, especially a busy one. The rental shops around SoCal rent these but most people just opt for the butt pads if any protection at all.. That said, it would be entirely cost prohibitive for most as this could easily rack on another $500 on top of board, goggles, pants, jacket, helmet…lessons.. So to anyone reading this its not overkill but it is expensive and hyper precautious but definitely worth it. Witness one skier or boarder ram another skier or boarder that just took a tumble and is on their bottom or knees trying to get going again and you’ll never be the same. I dont always wear all the protection and I came across this excellent vid searching for reviews on demon shorts..

Much more confident that I can keep riding after nasty falls/crashes. I might have to start looking at some Demon United stuff though, haha. Looking forward to your Clew review too! How durable do you think the gloves are? My goretex gloves get pretty mangled up after a season (depends on how much I fall, but if I'm using these, I'd probably want to expect falling more often). Gloves are usually what I expect to need replacing every season due to how much contact it gets with the ground (especially as a snowboarder). Not sure if it's a better idea to buy a wrist guard stuffed into cheap upsized gloves vs demon's wrist guard built in gloves that will need replacing entirely every season or two. Would love to hear your thoughts! You convinced me to buy myself this armor after my injury last season.

So sorry to hear that :( Yeah it's tough being a beginner snowboarder, finding a really good person to teach you is the key in my opinion. As well as sticking to the bunny slope for a very long time. Once you get it though, it clicks and feels impossible to catch an edge. Maybe also consider knee protection as a skier, I've heard that's where most skiers are injured. Although I think it is from knee twists, so maybe knee pads wouldn't help.

I bought some motocross protective gear from a motocross website (full body armor for my shoulders, back, breast, knees, shins and pads for my butt, hips and even balls).👀 I tried it for a few times and it actually worked perfectly fine for me. I once even fell off a big air ramp on my back so bad, my friend told me, that he knows people, who died, the way they fell on their back just like me (back armor thank god for saving ne.) Had trouble breathing for a couple of minutes, but I was relatively fine. Felt the back and knee pain really good for a week or two. After recovering for some weeks, it got better and better. I even considered buying some gloves with wrist protection or some wrist protection, that I can put under my gloves. Of course, motocross gear isn't meant for snowboarding, but knowing, that you can hurt yourself oftentimes, while motocrossing, I thought, that maybe, it isn't too far off, to use this kind of gear, even for snowboarding.😂

Is any of this armour easy to wash, because it must start to stink. 😅 I buy cheap skateboard knee and elbow pads, but they can go in the wash after my trip. My back protection is the Forcefield motorbike version. It's heavier and thicker than the lightweight snowboarding version and it saved my back, when a heavy dude slid into me when I'd fallen on an icy patch. It's too big to go in the wash, bit it dries quickly and has never started to smell. The cheap skateboarding pads will start to reek after a while though.

How expensive is your butt pad? I bought a more “foamy” one before for $25ish and it wasn’t very effective as seen at 02:10, probably because it was so cheap. Any recommendations for a quality foamy butt pad? The D30 has been awesome for me personally, it does have a lot of soft foam on the sides of the D30 that also help absorb impact. Not everything on the butt pad is D30. Yes the D30 portion is a bit hard, but idk I guess you just gotta trust the science lol. If you want an extra foamy butt pad, you can always opt for a giant turtle 🤣

I confident as some people are about their skills, one head bang and you can be out for life. With the short amount of snowboarding I've done, I've seen a few people bag their head after falling with and without a helmet. Some take their time to recover just sitting in the snow. Some sled back down with snow patrol. The few times I've seen the ones waiting it out, I can say they'll feel the pain. I didn't mention I fell twice this year already. Catching heel edge and falling straight back wards full length straight standing up was not fun. The saving grace was I had a backpack with a bladder in it and a helmet. The down fall to that the bladder raised my body higher so my neck snapped back slamming in the packed snow harder. It happened twice within a week. One going too fast and the 2nd a few days later while I was practicing switch. Some kid saw me squatting with my arms out and he came by to give me a high five. I lost concentration and dug me heel side in. Went full backwards and bam. Helmet saved my skull but helmet design helped the tightening part dig into my neck when I slammed my head. I'm lucky I don't have too much brain damage but two concussions in a week is not the way to go. First time I saw stars for a few minutes. The second slam wasn't as bad but still a split second blackout. Stay safe and wear protection any and every time is my suggestion.

I'm not convinced on the wrist protectors. If you land on those you can still break your collar bone in a FOOSH (Fall On Out-Stretched Hand) incident and there's no pad for that. Better off learn to fall properly: if you're going down, make a fist to protect your wrist and land on your forearms. It's always worked for me.

@@MountainMitchYT I'm a beginner and fell down on my knees many times learning heel side. I thought skiers would fall less on their knees just because of how the 2 ski pieces extend along the feet.

@@khangly7285 The knee injuries in skiers is caused by their binding failing to release when they fall, causing their knees to twist badly. If you’re falling on your knees I’d definitely invest in knee pads. That’s gotta hurt :( Also I learned heel side by sliding down on my heels (with my entire body facing downhill) on a steeper part of a green run (so I could really feel my edge engaged) and leaning back so if anything I’d fall on my butt. Then eventually I’d point in the direction I wanted to go. Not sure if that’s helpful. It also took me 3 lessons to learn how to link turns, it’s tough but after my first year of snowboarding everything clicked.

@@MountainMitchYT Yes it hurt for a few days. For me it's better to fall on the knees because it's easier to hit my head when I fall on the back. After watching this video I just bought wrist guards and a butt pad. I want to be able to snowboard much longer haha. Thanks for the video!

This guy realizes the moisture wicking layer wicks it off his skin and into the pads right? Please tell me he does…. At least he will figure it out by the end of the season.

This guy has been wearing this armor for several seasons and the moisture wicking layer wicks my sweat into the moisture wicking layer and makes THAT stinky… not my armor. My armor has never stunk, at least in my personal experience. And the moisture wicking layer is mainly just cuz it feels comfortable for me under the armor as it prevents chafing.

It’s as simple as replacing your layers with armor… The armor makes you warmer so you don’t have to wear extra layers… I literally describe one of the benefits of wearing armor as “keeps you warm” as seen in the video… and the fabric of this armor is so moisture wicking, high quality, thin, and vented. Have you personally worn any of this armor to experience the level of moisture wicking? And how do you explain the mountain bikers in the heat of the summer wearing all those pads?

bikers need armor.. they are lot more likely to break a bone :) many boarders are not even wearing a helmet.. how about pads.. anyway. Merry Christmas.

@@angataa Yeah I agree it’s definitely not as important for snowboarders. I just like to wear it myself and don’t feel like everyone has to or anything. Merry Christmas :)

I talked to several long-time ski patrollers on the icy East Coast before making this video and the consensus was that wrist guards help. I also looked into studies from the National Institutes of Health, one saying “We conclude that wrist braces are effective in protecting snowboarders against wrist injury”. Furthermore, my Demon Flexmeter Double sided wrist guard gloves are “designed by physicians, engineers, and trauma specialists” and they even conducted a study saying “Wrist fractures have diminished by 67% in a group of athletes wearing the Flexmeter snowboard wrist guards, compared to a group wearing no protection”. The brand Demon who makes these gloves is also known to have a lot of credibility, with their partnership with D30 and use in F1 Race Cars, Motorcycle armor, and Kevlar. I am curious where you’re finding that information tho cuz it could be helpful in creating the best snowboard armor possible.
