Snowblower Chute Free Spinning? Here's Why...

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video, I will show you how to fix a free spinning discharge chute on your Ariens 1130DLE snowblower. Fixing the free spinning chute is quite easy in my case, all I had to do is unbend the keeper in the video. You can also replace the keeper if your keeper is damaged or unbend-able. I will have a link for the exact part down below. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

EXCELLENT video! Your attention to making sure you explain and actually SHOW the various parts, and what you do; tighten, loosen, etc. is excactly what we needed to fix our chute problem! So appreciative of the time and effort you took to make this video!

Thanks to this video, my mom and I were able to fix ours (same issue as another commenter, ran into the mailbox with the chute, oops.) We don't have a vise, but between her knife sharpening steel (tapered end wedged between the keeper's bent "teeth"), a big screwdriver to pry the other way, and a cutting board, she was able to bend the keeper back into shape. We also learned NOT to overtighten the nut or it all binds up too much -- will add lube later to help mitigate that too. Thank you again for the detailed instructions, especially getting that spring back into place!

Amazing video. I found an Ariens Snowblower just like this one. I'm finishing repairs to it and I was always baffled at how this chute lock worked. I have none of these parts (yet). Thank you for putting out this video.

THANKS Much!! As many others have already indicated, Excellent video. I had the same problem on the exact model you have/worked on. With your help, I was able to identify the correct way to install the spring and connect the cable in the control area. You can laugh, but I spent a good two hours - in 9 degree temperatures in garage - trying to get the spring installed and failed. Then got the brilliant idea of looking for help online and found your video. One additional comment. I initially installed the cable at the Locking Arm as Ariens instructed, 1/4 inch beyond inner nut. Nope!! Locking Arm would not engage. Thought at first the spring was bad. Needed to play around quite a bit with the two nuts before found the right alignment distance. FYI, the distance that worked finally for me was about an inch past first nut. Also, you can't have the bolt/nut holding the Locking Arm assembly too tight. Needs some slop or the assembly will not move freely as needed. As other also noted this appears a very poor system.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was trying to get that part put back together and could not figure out how that spring connected to make tension. I saw a groove in that front gear and figured it had to sit there but that did not create enough tension. There was no obvious hole or anything that the end of the spring should go into as I would have expected. I had the ball come off the end of my cable and the local dealer did not have the part so I put a very small collar with a set screw on the end and that worked. Just couldn't get it back together until I finally found this video, thanks again!

Great video. The shop that did the service for my friend who is blind apparently didn't know what they where doing as the cable coating was broken and the spring was not installed properly. They charge him $150 for service and still didn't get it right. The oil level was low also and tire pressure was down. It won't be going back there anytime to soon. Thanks again

I had the same chute problem, but mine was the axial travel of the rod. My gears didn't mesh, so I shimmed behind the gear on the shaft. It took almost 3/16" of shims/washers to take up the slack. Works great now. 9:18

I find that the plastic outer casing of the cable breaks easily. You have to make sure that any bends are of a large radius or the outer casing will break. I’m surprised the cables are made that way. Be very careful when you route the cable. Notice where he has the support clip close to the gear housing.

There is a angles metal strain relief on the cable where the lever is. This is a newer version of the cable. Not the same shown here. If find the angle of the strain relief is too much. Outer casing of the cable will break easily if you are not careful when adjusting. Seams like a good upgrade but it’s not so good.

Why did you skip the most technical part of the reassembly which is the correct direction of the tension spring and what a job it is to get that tension spring in there. I had to watch this video several times just to figure out which of the two directions that tension spring even goes in. And then I was struggling with it to keep the tension on it just to get that spacer washer or whatever it's called on and through the other side.
