Snow Recovery With Lilli

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We had to run up on the mountain and get a truck that had slid off the snowy road. Lilli and I ran up in Big D and made pretty quick work of it. Then some fun snow driving instructions coming down. A little RC in the shop action, and some modifications to the buggy for the upcoming Offroad Games in Sand Hollow March 14th - 16th. Come out and cheer us on as we conquer the trails with ‪@LauraFarms‬ .Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

I laughed when you were teaching Lilly about braking and slippery conditions. When my daughter was about 20 she asked if I could teach her how to to drive and I told her yes, but under one condition. She had to learn on a standard. She wasn't happy about that and wanted to learn on an automatic. I told her no. It would be a standard because if she could learn on a standard she could probably drive almost anything. She still was not happy but she agreed. The first couple of times we started out in vacant parking lots and it was all about smooth clutch and gas operation along with braking. Once she had that down we moved on to shifting up and down while on the move and maintaining control of the vehicle. Then it was out into the boondocks and using the backroads to put some actual meaningful miles on. After about a month she had developed her skills to the point that you could say she was a driver. Pavement or gravel, up hill or down, straight or curves, starting or stopping, she could handle them with little to no problem. A few days before she was to test I decided to teach her how to double clutch the standard trans and not rely on the synchromesh system. It took a couple of hours but soon she had mastered it. It was a great confidence booster for her and when she tested she passed with flying colours. One evening not long after she and her boyfriend at the time were out for a drive. He had a Volkswagen Jetta with a standard transmission and he had a really bad habit. When coming to a stop, he would kick it into neutral and coast using only his brakes to stop. If the light changed before he stopped he then had trouble picking the right gear to get going again without coming to a complete stop. On that particular evening she decided to inform him that he did not know how to drive a standard properly. Her comment did not go over well. He decided to put her in her place by telling her if she was so damn good then maybe she should drive. Big mistake, huge. She put the Jetta through it's paces like a female Stirling Moss all the while upshifting and down shifting like a pro. She told me she even threw in some double clutching while down shifting just to make her point. He was not impressed. When he brought her home, he dropped her off and left without a word being spoken. The relationship ended less than a week later. Seems his ego couldn't stand being pounded on and then spit out. She told me about the breakup and I asked her if she felt bad. She looked me in the eye and said a little bit but I am glad that I found out now before it went any further because I don't want to be with some who can't take the fact that I just might be better at something then they are. I just nodded my head and thought to myself, "My little girl is all grown up now. Where did the time go?" Today she is 40 and can still drive with the best of them. We were out at my oldest sons acreage along with her common law husband. My son asked him to move a truck out of the shop so he could pull his car in for a minor repair. My son in law got in the truck and then got out again. We looked at him and he explained that the truck was a standard and he didn't know how to drive one. My daughter walked over, took the keys from him, got in, started it, shoved it into gear and backed out with out a hitch while we watched. My son in law looked at me with a smile on his face and said, "That's my girl. It always seems like if I can't do it she can." Then he laughed. They make a good team............

Lilli was a good co-pilot! I liked that she said something when she saw the client's truck moving at the beginning, then later at 10:39 she sees the soft shackle still on there. Good Dad teaching moments about not locking your brakes so you can steer 12:00. Sound advice for the highways, too! So many people in cars without ABS panic brake in the fast lane of the freeway in the city, turn the wheel slightly to the left while in a skid, then let off the brakes when they think they're clear only to be thrown into the center divider because that's where their wheel was turned.

Driving lessons 101 is where is at!!! We don't think our kids learn from what we tell them or even listen, but they do. Add the experience of her being there and you can be sure that she got a lesson for life! God bless.

So great to see you and your daughter! I raised my daughter in similar ways. She's a young adult now but we joke around that I've been teaching her how to drive her entire life. My thought process was, if I'm going to be a chauffeur for her and her getting around, then I'm definitely going to talk about how to drive and how not to drive from from the very beginning. It paid off very well! Thanks for sharing that part of your video!
