What I have always loved and thought about this song is that it's one of the most loving portrayals of pain and struggle between two people. We don't really need to know the circumstances behind why they are losing each other, because that's not the point. The thing that really stands out to me is that despite their mutual fear, pain, and his own overwhelming heartache, his only concern is not for himself but for the subject. This is one last song... for them. To calm their fears. To help them find their voice. Help both get out of their heads and stop whatever destructive cycles they are caught up in. He could be casting blame, raging at the sky, or focusing on himself and wallowing in his own misery; but he's choosing love. He's choosing to stay by their side and do whatever it takes to help them find their strength. He'll help them take the necessary next steps, whatever those are and whatever taking them might bring. They're in the fight for their lives, and even if that fight is something like letting go and walking away from each other for their own good, he truly wants the good. He wants to hold onto the best of their relationship and never wants their light to go out. That kind of love is rare, and I think that's why the lyrics transcend the bounds of any one scenario. No matter who you are or what circumstances you are in, everyone knows what it's like to love someone unconditionally at least once.

KZread comment section surprise me sometimes, they're so wholesome. Random people who have good music taste sharing stories of how they play it to their wife's grave/imagine their dad singing it before he died/this song helped them get rid of an addiction/their daughter beat cancer and people in comments are so supportive and understanding. Maybe it's innate goodness in human nature, I don't know what it is but it definitely makes me believe in something. Have a great day, stranger♡

I never really comment on things. I'm more of a silent watcher. But this song reminds me of my dad. As if he was singing this to me one last time. I lost him last year when I was 15, and it just reminds me of how he always wanted me to be louder as I was always shy or how he's always right beside me even if I can't hear his voice. I just imagine him back for a short time saying goodbye, like this

+Hannah Connolly I was 16 when I lost my dad, it was 1 and a half year ago. He really liked this song by Leona Lewis. That was OUR song, and since I don't have him, I was't be able to hear that song without my tears. And one week ago I found this original version, and it makes me nearly happy, because now I know he will be right besides me even if I can not hear his voice. He was my everything, but my life is going on, so I sing it one last time for him, and I really have to go. But I do it every day :) So I know how you feel, and I'm really sorry. I wish you the best! :)

This song is an open personal diary. It means something in our own lives, different maybe to the meaning to another. To me it's a song about comfort and hope in a dark and lonely world, knowing we matter, even when we feel abandoned. It's a great song for the lonely or betrayed. It is poetry. Like REM's Everybody Hurts, although not so on the nose, it speaks to the inner loneliness and pain in us all. The writer wrote it quickly. I think it was because it came straight from the subconscious - the Muses of old. Love it.

This song makes me cry so much. I think it probably means a thousand different things to a thousand different people, the lyrics are beautiful and open to interpretation, that's what makes it so special. For me, I see the "light up, light up, as if you have a choice" as a runway lighting up for a plane to take off when someone's had to leave. The situation in my life was really fucked up and this song gave me so much at the time.

Unfortunately, he passed away on the 23 of july, and I was not even at his side because I was traveling to Paris. My mom told me that it all happened so fast that she neither had the chance to take him to the vet! :/ I was very worried about him during the trip, but my parents didn't give me any news about his status... On my return, I discovered that he was no longer among us...I was heartbroken...I felt guilty for not being there during his death but at the same time I was grateful not to have seen one of the saddest scenes of my life, (I lost my rabbit too, a few months earlier) because I think I would have died with him...actually, a part of me died with him. This song reminds me of the last weeks alongside of my old mate, and I'm sure that one day we will meet again, along with all of our loved ones! :)

Im so so sorry uv lost your best mate, your beloved dog. I truly feel your pain .. i too lost my precious doggie during Feb this year. He'd been my closest companion for 15 years & losing him hit me like a ton of bricks. I feel somewot ashamed to admit the sense of loss was worse than when my Grandparents & both my parents passed away (all over the course of approx 5 years) but maybe its because losing my dog simply tagged on to the grief i was still feeling. Heartbreak is just wot it says on the tin; your heart literally feels as if its shattered into many fragments that cut everywhere throughout your body. The worst part is you dont know wot to do & nothing, physically nor mentally, eases the pain. The only thing that does help is time which doesnt ever cure but slowly but surely helps a little more each day til eventually a day passes & that night it dawns upon you that the whole day has passed without grief completely crippling your life. Be patient, remember all the happy times rather than the actual death because that is the only certainty every living thing on planet Earth has in their life.

I'm Turkish and 42, this will sound so weird but I've ran into this band just lately. I've been to Belfast, lived there for a time when I was 20, a couple of months, my uncle was married to a Mancunian lady, from Manchester, maybe Chesire, and I've enden up living in South Wales for a year back in 2006. Somehow I've always got this celt in me, although I'm 100% Turkish apart from my grandad being of Bosnian decent. Anyway, this song reminds me of my mom's little brother, Nuri ÖCAL, we lost him 2 years ago, and he couldn't speak louder...I just read Hannah Connolly's comment and it was a right match I believe. I'm so sorry to have lost him at the age when his father, my grandfather passed away...Nuri was such a good man, he made me listen to Pink Floyd when I was 5, back in 1981, then Queen, all the songs, black sabbath...and I'm just realising that I could not help my sweet innocent little uncle when he was feeling lost, in trouble...I'm public weeping now, so sorry about this...Anyway, this song is like a remembarance of him now, at least to me...he did not know he had a choice...sadly, he chose to did not speak up, louder, instead he chose to go away, pass away...quietely...hope he's better off there, whereever he is...I believe he is...Thank you for posting this video with its lyrics. This life is beautiful and yet we are all somehow connected, so let's all speak up, louder...louder...have a nice one everyone...have heart...and be brave...be curious, investigate, take the journey within, seek help if you can't resolve issues...and just believe in a better life...it's all up to us really...Afterall, we are all made of stardust and we are all unique...we are all miracles...each and every living thing...and us...cheers.

this song is a message for a loved one ,, my late dad and brother and cousin passed away and they never got to say goodbye to me and this song would constantly play on the radio for me to notice it and when i actually read the lyrics and watched the video i was totally convinced it was a message to me from them. And so i think this song is a message for all of us people who have lost somebody dear and our loved ones are saying they will be by our side even if we cannot hear their voice. They want you to go light up your life and move on and shine your light even though its a scary thing to do sometimes,, they will help you x

This song made me cry once. I wasn't listening to it, actually. I was outside and it was getting late and cloudy. I started singing this song and thought of the one I loved... I was almost home. It started to rain, and I as I got to the chorus I started to cry. It was so beautiful. You know when you care about someone so much, but you're not even sure why? There's just something about them. Something that changed your life so much, even if you haven't even interacted that much. I don't know. I just know that I miss them, and they miss me, and I can relate to this song so much.

It's weird how songs and music can sometimes express our feelings better than our own words. I'm sorry about your pain. :( Sometimes all you can really do is let the hurt have it's way, experience it, cry, eat some ice cream, and do what you can to feel better. Maybe you'll get over it, maybe not. It happens to most people, and it's part of life. These feelings are what make us human.

This song has been my go to for when I need to face my despair; experience it rather than push it down. It reminds me of my fiancee who committed suicide three months before our wedding. Five years together and I, nor any of her family or friends, knew of her mental illness nor what kind of suffering she was enduring. Still don't know what, no note, no good bye, just a missed phone call and then she was gone. Five years together of perfect happiness. It eradicated my whole future for a long time. This song makes me imagine her whispering to me, from beyond, the lyrics. 7 years later and it still crushes my heart.

What a lot of people aren’t aware of is that most people who commit suicide really only wanted a break from whatever pain/heartache/sadness they were experiencing at that moment. True, some do not want to be around anymore but if there was an alternative given to those souls to give them some respite from their immediate problem then maybe it will give them a second chance. Twice I’ve been at that point and I’ve learned WHAT it is, WHY it’s there, and HOW to deal with it. Sorry for your heartache. 🙏

This song can be so ambiguous. When I feel low, it feels sad and melancholy. My son is an amazing guitarist and he used to play this constantly while in his teens. He's had to grow up fast since because of family issues and I miss his innocence and carefree attitude Yet when I am in a good place it feels so empowering. I've been through hell and back over the past 15 years due to health problems and avoided death 3 times now. I had a serious accident nearly 2 years ago which could have been life changing but have only just come through, but not unscathed. I've had to make changes in my life. I'm the happiest I have been in many years and feel inner peace. These lyrics have helped me through so much. One day they will be played at my funeral but I hope that won't happen for a very long time

This song really echoes the anguish and heartache I feel at her loss. "Even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you, dear" and 'To think I might not see those eyes, It makes it so hard not to cry, and as we say our long goodbyes, I nearly do...' I did and still am.
