YES!, aiming is 90% done once you have position and get down on the table. The last 10% is to check if you're in line and where you're pointing on your cueball. The rest is just to ready yourself and checking if your body is in the right places. Many do not understands this and do "active aiming" on the table. There are rarely any videos on youtube emphasizing on this, and people don't get it!

I was always a good pub/Club pool and snooker player when I was younger...apart from a few games now and then I never really played for the last 20 years apart from in the pub for a laugh. Last year I bought a 9 foot pool table for my house and subscribed to your channel. I know it's snooker you are teaching but the techniques are the same. I very rarely miss a shot now and if I do it's a lack of concentration. I love your tip on relating to Mark Williams with his eyes shut. It works so well as the way I look at it closing your eyes like you are about to fall asleep is the best way to stay still. Top man Steve.

Great video - I see so many players do ‘chicken wings’ and therefore miss the pot. The mind-set of trusting the straight cueing process and delivering the cue straight is simple, but i accept is not easy to do when under pressure - great video.

I think this is goes back to setting yourself up with the pre-shot routine but ultimately being disciplined and adhering to it throughout. Even that tailend of blue, pink and black, noticably, the pros like your John Higgins and O'Sullivan's rarely fall complacent and take for granted.

Can I keep the cue touching my side( is it considered standard way?)while feathering, even upto the execution of the shot to avoid steering? My problems are steering, right foot flicking, I don't keep stay, and bridging. sometimes I play good but sometimes I'm beaten seven balls easily which frustrate me. * personal question, what do you do do while playing do you keep the cue touching your side or not? * last question: do you lift the que from behind abit or it's horizontally straight?

Do you have anything for how to judge how far away from the cue ball you should be before going down on the shot. This feels like an issue that's crept into my game. I feel like I'm sliding along the table too much, Then I try to correct it and more things go wrong. How far forward should you step with the right foot etc. My delivery and cuing is fine but this.... driving me insane. And I've got comp in 2 nights

  • @BartonSnooker

Stand slightly over 1 cue length away from the cue ball before stepping in. You can very briefly hold your cue out in front of you if you like to measure the distance. Then chalk, and then walk in. Once you've done that for a bit, you'll then no longer need to measure the distance and you'll just 'feel' it.

Steve I love you videos but feel at times they can offer different advice. For example in this latest one you mention not to worry about potting the ball just put all your focus into technique and the rest will sort itself out, yet in other video’s you mention to change the priority list to potting the ball first, and another video mentions it isn’t your cue action why you miss its angle recognition. It call all get a bit confusing to follow! I do really enjoy your videos and hope you keep them coming, regards, Steve. A

Very wise words. And I like accepting that you can't pot everything - that does take some pressure off. After all, the pros rarely get above 95% pot success. So club players should be happy with 75%?? (three balls out of every four)?

  • @BartonSnooker

Yeah. 75% is excellent. You're spending a lot more time potting than missing 😀 Even for pros, 90%+ is very high level session, that's rare. 85-89% would be more common.
