Not long after the Schweddy Balls skit aired, Ben and Jerrry’s ice cream actually distributed a flavor named for it. They eventually withdrew it from the market.
I remember they did one about a 5 bladed razor. The end line was "5 blades. Because you'll believe anything." Today they have 5 bladed razors.

I had a college professor in the early 90's who talked about a razor that just hit the market... he said he used to work at Gillette and that he had worked on that product, just before he left, 5 years prior. Not an automobile or some complex electronics, but a razor. Man, to think about the razor "technology" they have developed, but are holding back from us now. LOL

@@DontStopBelievin888 sadly that industry is all about the "value add" sales. I knew a couple of people who worked at Gillette as well (one was a plant manager in St Paul) and it was really sort of odd. In high school I had done a few of those "survey" deals at a local shopping mall, where you got to try out new flavors of drinks, candy, consumer products, etc. You got paid in free product or maybe a few bucks, but it was sort of a fun deal to do in high school with friends. We got to try out several flavors I think it was Ocean Spray or Sunkist were considering for sales (it came out as I think "Ruby Red" a few years later, the flavor I had voted for); we got to try out hard candies another time; and they even had some Bacardi trials we didn't get to do (had to be 21); but the really cool one had to have been Gillette even though there was absolutely no branding on any of the material we got. They were disposable razors but the molds were clearly from a pilot factory and not the normal ones they would sell - 3 or 4 blades, which was more than the norm for the time. Like Sensor (which came out around that time) they had springs behind some of the blades, which worked much better than your typical disposable. In the decades since then, Gillette has released at least three or four generations of razors that are each a tiny bit fancier than the series before it. And as you say, was the prototype for all of these completed back by the late 80s or early 90s? Probably... but they'd be able to sell more handles and refill blades by slowly rolling it out over decades, so they did. Considering the features those disposables I got to try out in ~92 or so had, you can't tell me they were waiting on technology or R&D... :P
@sailboatbob3969

LOL it wasn't 5 blades. it was 3. the 2 bladed razor just came out. so SNL came out with the "Triple track" spinning as it came from outer space it was Dan who was selling the razor...and when it stopped spinning he said "the triple track, for people who will believe anything" LOL now they may have re-done that skit when the 5 blades came out too. LOL I'm old 70 best cast all times the first one.
I once asked a motivational speaker if he believed in ghosts. He answered no but that he hoped they believed in themselves.

I remember watching the Colon Blow skit live as a kid. It threw me into a fit of laughter that lasted well after the skit was over.... I saw it live, too. Later, one day while driving to work, the news on the car radio said something about a murder in I think Woodland Hills; and they broke in again later saying it was a man who was killed by his wife ... and still later (hey, it's an LA drive), that it was Phil Hartman. I was _REALLY_ sad when I heard that. Such a loss.

I saw it the first time around, too, and reacted about the same. The way it escalated completely took me by surprise, and the high production values really added to it. Blow wasn't really well known slang at the time. (Well, it was, but in another sense.)

I once saw Christina Applegate in an interview talking about the Matt Foley sketch and why she couldn't keep a straight face. She said that during the rehearsal Chris Farley was certainly funny delivering lines like, "In a van down by the river." But when they did it live, he played it MUCH bigger like, "IN A VAN !!! @Briscoe17555 I owned rental properties for 14 years and I raised the rents ONCE during 14 years, by about 10%. The landlord here was making a profit at the old level before the inceases. The buildings here have paid for for over 20 years (they are over 50 years old). The landlord's reason for raising the rent was to buy a vacation home on Martha's Vineyard.
@nedkelly2035
2 жыл бұрын
@Briscoe17555 You are apparently totally uneducated. To address your points: the tenant pays utilities, water, and waste disposal, not the landlord. I am paying those fees right now, every month. Property taxes DID go up, they were actually the reason for the one increase I imposed. Maintenance and repair bills came up now and then, and I paid them out of my profits from the rents. Due to the fact that I was not constantly raising the rents, I had practically no turnover of tenants. Thus no management company needed. My only mistake was selling the properties before the later boom in real estate prices. Also, with your IQ, I think Sesame Street may be a bit advanced for you. Teletubbies might be something you could understand.
