That guy who played the father was Phil Hartman... one of the comedy greats, so funny. Played two characters on The Simpsons, Troy McClure, washed-up former star of everything you've never heard of; and Lionel Hutz, shady ambulance chasing lawyer who LOVES making his own loopholes to stiff his clients. He was also in his own show, NewsRadio - he was in fact one of the main characters! Unfortunately - you are such a wholesome person I hesitate to say this, but I must since you asked - he had some big problems with his wife, Brynn... she was addicted to drugs - one night, he threatened to leave her right out of the blue if she didn't quit - that very night... she killed him, and shortly thereafter herself. Incredibly tragic end to a really great comedian. Great video as always Jamel AKA Jamal. Keep them coming!

One of SNL's greatest sketches, by some of their best members (the cast of this era, and the original one from the 70s, were THE vest SNL ever had)! If you like cast members in live comedy sketch variety shows trying to psyche each other out, and losing (or nearly losing) composure, then you NEED to watch The Carol Burnett Show! Tim Conway, one of their regulars, was notorious for going off-script and purposefully trying to bust up cast members! In a very famous outake reel from one recurring sketch on the show that was very popular, the "Family" sketch (which some years later spawned the "Mama's Family" tv sitcom), Tim goes off script again. But, at the end, after he spent several hilarious minutes trying to bust up the cast, one of them, Vicki Lawrence (who plays "Mama" here and in the spinoff tv show) gets a line in that breaks Tim Conway! If you search "Tim Conway Elephant Story", you'll find it! It's usually the condensed version (it went on for four minutes or so in total...the condensed one runs about 2:55, and contains the best stuff)...you'll bust a gut laughing! The sketch starred Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, and guest starred Dick Van Dyke. But there's so much Tim Conway did on that show that is wprth sering!

It's amazing how many KZreadrs were inspired by Matt Foley to become motivational speakers living in a van (car, truck, camper, RV) down by the river. Some of them build huge outhouses and call them tiny off-the-grid homes. They're shacks, in Canada we use them for ice fishing.
That whole scene is basically improvised. So you see Christina and David's natual reaction. And the table scene, they told him for the take to fall and not use his hands. He said, "got it" That skit will never not be funny.

Phil Hartman was a legend in comedy.
Phil Hartman was a part of the SNL cast for years. He was very versatile and could handle many different roles. His impression of Bill Clinton was legendary during his presidency. He also did an impression of Frank Sinatra that Sinatra himself enjoyed. Chris Farley was always hilarious on SNL. He always put everything he had into every scene and was one of the best physical comics that SNL ever had.

Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer was one of my favorites

Phil Hartman's Reagan was terribly funny. Talking to the little girl scout who sold all the cookies "Well, if you're such a good salesperson, we could use you on Capitol Hill". She leaves. "That's the part about this job I hate the most. Alright! Back to work!" He starts working out how they can pay Iran for hostages by buying arms from them. Then they can use the arms to help the contras. His cabinet wants to call it a day. He says okay and starts making phone calls.

Great reaction, Jamel! This is classic SNL. The "Chippendales" audition is absolutely ridiculous. Every "Celebrity Jeopardy/Black Jeopardy" has me rolling every time, as well.
The fact that the "motivational speaker's" voice always sounds as if he's on the verge of tears makes this doubly hilarious. Not to mention Farley's incomparable physical comedy. And when he says that "Rollin' DOOBIES" line, both David Spade and Christina Applegate are complete toast. Lord knows how they managed to carry on without completely losing it. Phil Hartman, not the guy from Breaking Bad. Yes, the table was scripted. The last time Chris Farley hosted SNL before he died, he did a skit with Lorne Michaels where he was trying to get back on the show by saying he still had his comedy chops. He tried to do a scripted pratfall through Michaels' desk and bounced off of it because it wasn't a prop desk, which was the gag. One of the last times SNL was funny.

I remember the night this aired. No one ever saw anything like this. This was the funniest sketch SNL ever produced and it was all Chris.
That was the late, great Phil Hartman, and I highly recommend checking out some of his stuff. His caveman character was pretty great as was his Frankenstein’s monster. I especially remember him, the wolf man, and Dracula singing Christmas carols in a sketch on one of SNL’s holiday shows. I still miss him, and it still breaks my heart how he died. I think of his kids from time to time and really hope they’re doing ok.
Spade and “Kelly Bundy” trying not to laugh really add to the brilliance of this sketch
Another classic SNL sketch where they were struggling to stay in character is: Close Encounter - SNL Three people (Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Ryan Gosling) share very different stories about their alien abduction.
Chris Farley, one of a kind for sure.

This came out around 1991ish as I recall. Saw it live on TV when it first aired. It turned into a recurring skit, and you always k new it was coming because they'd say "he's been drinking espresso for about 4 hours, and I think he's ready." And then he'd always crush something like he did the table (which was supposedly a mistake when they did it in this skit the very first time). Hilarious. You should also give the Coffee Talk with LInda Richman SNL skits a whirl. They were hilarious too.

RIP Chris and Phil 😢😢😢
Christina Applegate is just sitting there trying to keep it together the whole time.
I say that I just keep popping a rib from laughter 😂

Loved Chris Farley. He was one of a kind.

Since you like character breaking, Jeff Goldblum hosted a few times. Never broke. Will Ferrell said I'm getting him this time. He said take away all the cue cards after 2nd line (moon &green cheese). Jeff had to improv his lines and Will went completely nutty. It's "snl Jeff Goldblum Will Ferrell Space the Infinite Frontier"
Phil Hartman is playing the Dad. He was on the regular SNL cast. Unfortunately, his wife shot and killed him when he was in the prime of his comedic career. Chris Farley and David Spade were best friends during that time. SNL has always been known for its cast members' improvisation, so the table bit probably wasn't in the script. Jamel, I strongly recommend that you do more reactions with Chris Farley. Thanks for the laughs and a great reaction. Rest In Peace, Chris and Phil. 😪💙✌
Phil Hartman (played the dad) , Chris Farley, two of the greatest comedians. Died too soon, then along with John Candy, John Ritter, like a quick chain reaction in a matter of 2 years it seems, all gone in a flash, like bam bam bam bam.
Oh absolutely classic
In addition to all his other great roles, Phil Hartman also played Captain Carl on Pee Wee’s Playhouse.

Farley is one of the greatest, but classic character
The dad is Phil Hartman, not Bryan Cranston (Walter White), but the sketch was written by Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman)
This sketch actually was written by Bob Odenkirk from breaking bad/saul back when he and Chris were doing improv at 2nd city in Chicago

This skit was written by Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame. Phil Hartman is the dad.
Dad, Phil Hartman. For a movie featuring him, I suggest House Guest, co-starring Sinbad.
A class SNL sketch!!!!!!!
J- check out Kate McKinnon of SNL talking about her alien abductions. It’s the funniest thing you’ll see.
Jamal's Fall Reruns.
Phil Hartman also played a hilarious role opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie Jingle All The Way. Plays his neighbor and tries to steal Arnold's wife lol.

Phil Hartman was long dead before Breaking Bad was a thing, as was Chris Farley. The world Misses Phil and Chris, they left us too soon. Ah, I have seen it 100 times and it still makes me laugh!

The dad was Phil Hartman....he was great...had a spokesperson's looks and voice but was funny as hell...he also did voiceover work! Unfortunately, he was killed by his psychopathic, nutcase wife! This is actually a modern times legend, in the annals of SNL sketches.......and is well-known for Farley busting up his good friend David Spade, as well as Christina Applegate! I'm a little surprised you've never heard anything of it!
