Maasai mara trips are not a scam. The reason they charge so much is because it is so popular. Everything is well planned out and you get to see real maasais living in the mara. If you decide to go on a lone safari the 'headache' would be so much and time consuming. It is why the mara has become so popular, because you don't need to ask around or pay bribes to get the real experience. I hope you understand why safaris are so expensive!

I know he was trying to avoid all those expensive tour Companies, but that didn’t give him better result either. Whenever you visit people in their backyards and you want to take videos and photos with them, it's courteous to give them a tip or a token of appreciation for learning about them and their culture. The Maasai know that people exploit them by photographing them and splashing the photos on social and mainstream media. The prices that these people were quoting is below what tourists actually pay. So it was a disservice to those traders when you announce to the world that they were overcharging their artwork. Considering that the smallest item there takes 2 days to knit, selling it Kshs600/- ($6) is not exploitative but very fair. Tourist will buy it at $10 to $15(Ksh1000 to 1500) without blinking an eye. Why? The items are unique, labor is intensive hence a fair return for it and they want to empower the community especially the women. So,my brother, next time if you don't buy anything from traders anywhere in the world, don't use their selling price as a scapegoat. And don't allege that they they're overcharging you without any iota of evidence.
