Whenever I mention Snarky Puppy to someone: “Wait - you know Snarky Puppy!?!” A few times I’ve worn SP swag, I’ve had folks yell out “Snarky Puppy!” Even though Snarky Puppy may not be “mainstream” by typical standards, there are a lot of us fans out there. This album and songs like this are the reason why.

It's my birthday, and what a day for a new Snarky Puppy song. For my birthday I'd like Shaun to be OK. All the best, Bongo

That baseline was seismic low end thick with the right amount of growl.
When I close my eyes and hear the groove at 4:00 I'm in a state of fullness and start crying from joy.

Right there with you.
Love the serious face at 4:20 and then the sneaky smile at 4:25
this one live hits different. When the bassline drops it feels so good, sometimes they do this thing were they play it in a slower tempo live and its so sick.

@@Marunius yupp. They played it notoriously slow here in México City 3 weeks ago and the vibes were off the charts. JT was def hitting those drums lmao. Whole audience was very into it as u would expect, perfect opener for the set list.

@@emilioguzmanalvarez420JT is the only drummer I've ever heard live that actually felt like he was dragging back the tempo and simply refusing to let anyone get too fast. It was awesome. That snare doesn't miss.
That whole tone lick on the electric piano at 4:23 was so unexpected but so perfect
I’ve listened to this album countless times since September and I still notice new things after watching the videos. The way Snarky blend instruments on this album is so cool. The mix of the moog bass, baritone guitar and clavinet is such a rad sound.

I wholeheartedly agree with all your statements...this album has unbelievable depth to it. It's a joy
That crescendo with all the keyboards though, holy shit. I always wondered which key players were playing that. It was all of them, huh? God damn...

...the great thing is you get little surprises like Bill on the Waminet instead of Bobby. You would not know this without the video.

@@lsh3rdYeah! Bill plays it sometimes. In this album, you can see him play it in Pineapple, too.
I love the percussion and drums during Maz's solo, and the keyboardists trading solos and licks at the end, and, of course, the insane groove. 3:30-3:59 is such a beautiful moment.
It's stuff like Bobby Sparks at the end, doing their own mixing. I just keep learning something new every time I watch these.
Watching these guys perform is in a word... MAGICAL!

I wish I was a muso watching these guys. I’m not and I already know it’s magic. I envy those that can see behind the curtain. Just sublime!
Just saw SP at Chautauqua Institution, NY, (27 June 2023) sporting a 10-member lineup. They were still able to deliver rich sonic scapes with that 'reduced' number, but MAN, I would love to hear this full complement live. What a treat that would be. These videos illustrate the potential that so many instruments and musicians bring to the table.

Not reduced, that's our normal touring band. Sometimes less depending on peoples availability.
The effects on the flugelhorn, that change in dynamics at 3:30, the overall texture of the song. A thing of beauty🥲

Sure would love to see a video from the perspective of the sound engineers working on these.
Listening to the album I imagine Bill - Rhoades, Shaun - Hammond, and Bobby - Clavinet. Nice surprise to see who's really playing in the video!

Loved to see M.Lettieri with his baritone guitar. This track is marvelous 🎉😮

another maz killer!! and the end is righteous groove world. i guess it's true what they say- it's good to be the king(s). thanks guys...now get back to work dammit!! 😎
In the early verses, melody is on the beat, bass off the beat, so they interlock in the funkiest way. Brilliant, Michael!

Inspired by many Funk/R&B bands from the 80's.
Reminds me of something like an old Jeff Beck or Return to Forever song, deconstructed, everything at 1/4 speed and twice the musical depth. Awesome.
I have listened to this song live in Istanbul last November, and it was fire 🔥🔥amazing ❤❤
How do they keep doing this. Another masterpiece!!
Definitely “kept ” and stuck in my “mind”!
I CANT EVEN. Just incredible
Great track and classic Snarky theme ...and great solo by Maz :)
Damn this is a jam
I so wish I had seen this performance at the recording sessions...the amount of musical mastery here is snarkily amazing. Maz may have stolen the show on this one, but Bobby and Bill are truly brilliant and Shaun is playing like he is truly blessed. a quick shout out to Michael Harrison and Nic Hard for the great work you do putting Snarky Puppy in my ears and in my soul.
4:00 - 4:14 That's Amazing! Im not gonna lie
Da Boyz! I remember when...
Randy Brecker would be so proud... Well done solo!
Great to see the video for this one. And the mixing, good god! Absolutely Tremendous
Incredibly cool! LOVE Snarky Puppy. Peace from Detroit MI.
Wow, huge ups to the sound engineers especially!!!
This song has one of the best mixes I have ever heard, maybe even the best; I truly can't think of anything I have heard that has ever sounded that good.
Tightest sounding snares all around. And Snarky Puppy blows my mind! Love this album!

I unironically think this is the second best song they've ever made, above everything except Lingus.
Bill having a turn on the whammy bar this time?! Been waiting for this video to drop - and they still never disappoint! And Maz's solo is pure class throughout and let's not forget the expression on Bobby's face during his solo knowing that he pulled off something exquisite!!

Yup, he's gone on the record saying this was his easiest album
@JTonthedrums
Жыл бұрын
Uhh No. We were still arranging our parts and trying new things During the recording. Easier compositions, yes and no, meaning Simple has many layers and can be difficult at times. Getting the right "Feel" is just as difficult, more actually, than playing a bunch of notes. However, the process of learning 3 drum parts is never "easy", as we have to play this by ourselves on tour. So you can't lay back and only learn/know your part. Part of the reason he stated it was his easiest album is because he had more time to actually learn the songs, though the rehearsal schedule was still Very intense for this record and double the amount of songs.
