wow. being in thst room would be an amazing opportunity. I would do anything to be there for one of these. I saw them live once, but most of the audience seemed to be there to party and not listen (which is ok i guess), but folks were talking over some of the most standout musical moments. I think a lot of their fans go for the funk, but aren't trained to understand the jazz. glad they have all the fans they've got though, I ain't haitin'. I would just prefer to hear them in that kind of intimate setting so I can hear everything that's going on.

In case people don’t quite understand why the band was freaking out and the drummer got up out of his seat at the end. Lalah has the ability to do overtone singing which means she can sing more than one note at a time. She was singing THREE..... THREE notes at once and they were all in the same key as the song. She is incredibly skilled beyond comprehension.

The way Lala can sing overtones is something that is unique and rare in most singers. That was what made the drummer jump out of his seat and everyone else so excited. Ms. Hathaway is a rare treasure o be certain and Snarky Puppy is an exquisite band for her to launch into her vocal stratosphere. I truly love this track. Her father was such a gifted vocalist and one of my favorites from him is a duet he performed with Roberta Flack called "I who have nothing". The Album from 1972 on Atlantic Records was called Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. It is a wonderful album filled with incredible treasures like "Where is the love" and "For all we know".

When you start getting into jazz you are swimming toward the deep end of the ocean. Using the voice to mimic an instrument is a standard jazz thing called scat. I love funk and jazz, and really like funky jazz and jazzy funk. Thank you for playing these, I stumbled onto Cory Henry (the keyboard player) a couple of days ago because I'm a fan of JAM IN THE VAN on youtube. Snarky Puppy was in parenthesis after Cory Henry's name. I just looked at the wiki article on Snarky Puppy before watching them for the first time with two of your videos. It's hilarious that the guy who put Snarky Puppy together said he wasn't a good enough player to get into any of the music ensembles when he was a college at North Texas, so he had to start his own music group of 10 players in order to be able to play himself. There have been 40 different players in Snarky Puppy over the years, including a core of 6 who have been there from the start. Many of them went to college at North Texas. Now I'm going to listen to a lot more of Snarky Puppy. Thanks for introducing me to this group!

She has her daddy's beautiful vocal tone and sense of timing (the great Donny Hathaway!) and so much more. For someone who lost that parent to suicide so young - he was 32 I think, and she had to be under 10 years old - she has done far more than merely survive... She has built a beautiful life and calling for herself and we are blessed to simply bask in her glory.

Technically Donny Hathaway was sitting down on a piano vocally slaying songs live. To me, there is no competition, especially between a father and daughter, without Donny there's no Lala. Now that I think about it, Donny was only alive for 33 years, yet his voice was just slightly more developed than Lala's was in her younger years. Sadly we'll never see those two on a stage 😔

Actually, Becca and David both met for the first time at that recording session and instantly had a musical connection and together with Snarky Puppy bass player and Michelle Willis (who was also at the Family Dinner Vol. 2 session) formed an acoustic band which they dubbed The Lighthouse Band after the album they made together. Here they are performing Joni Mitchell's song Woodstock (which Crosby already had interpreted as apart of Crosby Stills Nash, but here the vocal performances are on a whole other level): kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqRpy6yAf6u1nLw.html

She is incredible! I'm still as impressed by this as I was the first time. If you want some more scatting, for a fun diversion I suggest Aubrey Logan doing M.C. Hammer's "U Can't Touch This". Really. Official video is good
