Snap on Diagnostic cart full walk through

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is my diag cart. As I mentioned in the video. What are your thoughts? Do you think the shop should supply them or the techs? How about scan tools as well?
Me personally I feel the shop should supply them. Charge accordingly and stop subsidizing auto repair rates and racing to the bottom on price. Every other trade industry charges way more than we do and pays their employees well with benefits and no tools to buy. Unlike a lot of shops & dealers in our industry.

I have my own scan tool because I like tools and I wanted my own. I’m not the best at diag still learning but I really am considering building my own smaller diag cart with all the rest leads and other things I use only for diag. That being said I LOVE that cart you got there. Super jealous 😂

For me I'm just a weekend wrencher working on older cars 2013 is the newest car I own. I love the nice new stuff but the reality is it's too expensive. Maybe you could do a video on the older snap on scan tools that are older and affordable. I know it won't beat the new stuff. I'm definitely looking at the Vantage pro with guide diagnostic with the scope.

  • @Enrightauto

That old stuff is getting nearly impossible to find now because it’s no longer supported. So when they break they are getting trashed unfortunately. If you want something newer and affordable topdon is the way to go for sure

As a Honda dealer tech, we have 5 techs that share 3 HDS tablets. I’m debating on asking about purchasing my own personal scanner through the dealership. I debated between the top don, an autel or a launch, but I feel if I’m spending any large amount of money, I’d prefer the OE.

  • @Enrightauto

If you plan to stay at the dealer that’s probably ok. I’d look into the cardaq plus 3 that way if you ever leave you have a good pass thru module that works on other brands and aren’t stud with a dsti. The cardaq does the same thing a dsti does

I work at a dealer, so we all have the OEM scan tool plus shop owns a Snap On scan tool, forget which one. I personally have my own scan tools, an Autel Ultra, an IM608, an autel tpms tool plus a cheap topdon obd2 reader. It allows me to do a lot of stuff that the OEM scan tool wont, plus I never have to wait for a tool. I also have a diag cart, an older snap on cart that came with the verus plus I think. Super nice cart, but I have no room at work so it stays at home unfortunately.

The shop should supply a few carts with clean power producing power supplies. Then you should make your own. Mine is set up with scope mounts and a monitor, an IM608 Pro an MS906bt, the factory scan tool, a power supply and a few different scopes... like 16 channels worth. My suggestion is never buy what the shop already has, you don't need your own Zeus if the shop already has one. You also don't need one for programming if the shops does it. Mine all do because of personal preference. I end up doing the majority of the troubleshooting in the shop, and I feel like scan tools are those that once you commit to a brand its unlikely you try another one... those new Topdons are looking mighty spicy though.

Watched til the end, I want to say HF carts are great for this. I think everything in that box is still lighter than a typical impact socket 3/8 and 1/2 drawer. Diagnostic stuff is light, just very big especially the ones that come in blow molded cases that you have no option because of all the little pieces that you must use the case. Wires trapping drawers is a massive pet peeve too. I have no clue why somebody would want to use a Snap On cart (not saying you, I hear you on the drawer preference) instead of a cheaper HF. I typically get a HF cart, beat the daylight out of it, and then its used for as a wire repair cart or diag cart or sold to another tech and I get another HF to replace it. No stressing over shiny paint, its just a folded piece of sheet metal with a US General logo. :)

Yea with the new harbor freight cart being what it is it makes sense to get it. I had terrible luck with their old 4 drawer version twice so I have sour taste in my mouth with anything box/cart related from them. But I’ve had a bunch of people buy them and tell me the new ones have held up great for diag carts.
