There none of these frogs are in or near water and same as snakes so this is very common. When a snake had a frog by the leg the frog can’t go anywhere.

Most snakes have a toxic saliva that stuns the prey as they bite down on it. Resistance becomes very hard if they don't get away sooner than later. This is not to be confused with a venomous snake.

One of those annoying disgusting green plagues 🐸 less. I wished we ha more grass snakes. But people totally misinformed and generally frightened of snakes, are killing the snakes. Don’t get me wrong, even if I hate them, also the frogs have their niche in the ecosystem. But where I live (centre of the Alps, Rhine Valley) it’s totally out of balance. The poison ones like the adder (Vipera berus) is almost extinct.

Too bad that plant was in the way near the end of the video. I thought this frog was going to get away for a moment when nearly all of its body was outside of the snake's mouth. Just AMAZING how these snakes can eat prey this big and still move around so well after its meal. I wonder how long before the snake needs to find another big frog to consume. Thanks for the video.

@@DougCeleste I don't think the frog's leg was badly injured yet. I already filmed a large frog that was missing its entire hind leg and the wound seemed to have healed. However, I suspect that it still didn't survive because he could no longer hunt well with one leg.

When the frog in this video almost escaped, I did not see any severe injury on its exposed leg but we never saw the other leg since the snake had it in its mouth. But your point is well-taken about this other frog that you are mentioning here with only one leg left. Yes, that definitely would affect its hunting and escape skills and lower its chances to live.

@@DougCeleste I filmed another attack by a grass snake on a frog, where the frog managed to break free. However, its leg had previously been quite twisted when it was in the snake's mouth. Yes, the frog almost always fits into the snake's mouth when swallowed from behind. The air is squeezed out of the frog and it becomes very thin.

Think of it though. After being bitten repeatedly and chewed on, the frog's back legs may be injured too badly to fight. If a larger snake like a python or a boa struck one of us repeatedly we'd be hurting too even if it wasn't going for a kill. The local zoo used to have a 21 foot constrictor of some type that you could handle. Though he was just chillin', you could tell that was one powerful creature.

Frog didn't seem to try hard enough to escape. 😢

Amazing capture here! It looks like that big frog (do you know what kind?) is putting up some struggle! Does the hungry snake manage to win the battle and gulp down that whole thing okay?? It looks like the determined prey is defensively puffing out and using it's front Iegs to hold on (and those strong back legs must be kicking?). If eaten, does the unlucky frog really get swallowed live?! Still, it looks quite big, maybe it can survive or even wriggle (being so slimy too etc.) back out of the stomach?

Gäbe es keine Ringelnattern, die Frösche fressen, würden sich die Frösche stark vermehren, alles andere wegfressen und ein grosser Teil von ihnen am Ende verhungern und/oder von Krankheiten dezimiert werden. So ein Tod wäre sicher viel grausamer als von einer Schlange gefressen zu werden.

They are probably external injuries to the frog. I have already observed how a large frog was almost completely swallowed by the snake and then choked out again because the snake was disturbed while eating. And the frog seemed unharmed afterwards and jumped away.

Most of the time you won't see any blood when a frog is eaten by a grass snake. Perhaps the frog was injured when the snake attacked.

ヘビは常に大きなカエルを後ろから飲み込まなければなりません。 こうすることでカエルから空気が押し出され、ヘビがカエルを飲み込みやすくなります。

I hate when idiots post commentary about things they know absolutely zero about. That frog didn't "almost escape" when he almost got his foot out of the snakes mouth. The snake intentionally let him let most of his leg out so he could get both legs in at the same time.. It is much easier to swallow if they have both legs. These guys eat frogs for a living....they know exactly the best way to eat them. I have seen many snakes intentionally do this especially if the frog is big enough to be prevented to go down with just one leg . This one looked pretty close to that point.

@@beatschneideranimalfilms1659 Oh sure they escape sometimes. Sometimes the lion gets killed...nothing is perfect in the predatory world and success rates vary between prey & predator. My point was that that frog didn't even come close to escaping because this is an intentional act by the snake to get both legs in the mouth. That no hands thing must really suck! I've seen frogs escape snakes before but my point was how the commenter presented it like the frog tried to do that. No the snake did his trick perfectly that time and was very successful in his hunt.
