Good analysis from the your presentation however I noticed you did not account for increasing expenditure on feeding and housing. For example 200k for feeding 1000 snails what about feeding the subsequent increase of the snails and housing requirements. Thanks and great work.

Well spotted bro. I forgot to account for the cost of feeding the additional 23,000 snails that came in year 2 With regards to the housing, I didn't account for it because the total number of snails were still under 30k and could fit into a greenhouse situated on one plot without violating stocking density requirement...and also this cost would still fall under fixed cost as opposed to recurring expense - Part of my assumption was to only account for the recurring expense not the fixed costs e.g. the cost of constructing the farm. But you're right..feeding these additional snails would cost a lot more than 200k.

What you're saying about the snails being adapted to their local environment, and changing those conditions could be true and useful for most any live organism. Snails, chickens, transplanting crops or trees. Changing conditions is stressful to life, and requires adaptation. Nice one.

Thanks Michael for being so thorough, detailed, and yet concise. I have come to trust your channel as my go to KZread channel when it comes to snail farming in Nigeria. I can’t wait to personally reach out to you when next I am in the country to possibly implement my snail farm project that I have put on hold for lack of credible research data from other practitioners in Nigeria. Thanks again for what you’re doing bro..

Thanks bro Yeah I agree with you. The problem is that core snail farming topics are limited and there's only so much you can discuss.. . Anything that requires a lot of granular details and explanation I'll most likely do it personally. However, snail trivia topics tend to be short and attract a LOT more views compared to snail farming topics and a lot more of a global audience who love that animation style format Its a balancing act but I'll try as much as possible to do the core snail farming stuff personally if I suspect the video will be long and requires a lot of explanation or demonstration..but for the snail trivia stuff which tends to be very brief I'll most likely defer to animation

Yes indeed . Perhaps we can provide subject tips for you . What do you think about making your own formulated feeds . Perhaps you can look at ' how to make a formulated feed, giving a details breakdown of the component and percentage value that would be required to make a 10, 20 or 50kg feed quantity ..?

Thank you Michael. This is really self explanatory. I understood the feeding N200,000 was for feeding the initial 1,000 snails for 2 years. What about the cost of feeding the snails hatched within the 2 year period? Thanks once again.

  • @zenaksnailfarm

If you are operating a greenhouse system, then formulated feed is just supplementary and you'll need to budget between N400,000 to N700,000 for feeding all the snails in the first 2 years. If you're operating an intensive system where they have no other source of food except what you bring to the pen, you'll need to budget upwards of N1m for the thousands of snails to come
