SMOOREZ Random Phone Repairs: Installing a new front OLED on the RAZR 2019 + story time & rambling
Ғылым және технология
Well this has been in the making for a while, sort of.
I do tell the story of how this all happened but I can give you a quick rundown here.
Back in October 2020 during lockdown, I found a Moto Razr 2019 on Facebook Marketplace for $1000. It was intended to be my first Foldable Phone. However the front OLED and camera glass was broken. We agreed on $850 delivered but I found my Z Flip on eBay for $1000 the night before paying and went with that instead.
I told the guy I would much rather go with the Z Flip since it was basically new and had MUCH better specs, he said that's ok and I moved on.
It was around January 2021 I got a message saying he had dropped the price down to $500, tempted, I said no to it and moved on.
Then late March 2021, while browsing Marketplace - this popped up outside of my search radius. I thought, I wonder if he still has it. I messaged him and asked if he would take $300 for it and he said sure why not. I drove down and picked it up and the guy was super nice. He dropped the phone onto his garage floor which, is concrete and it fell from his front pocket straight down and slid along causing the damage. He used it for a few more weeks before getting another phone as he wasn't happy with the device anyways, seems to be cursed lol.
So I bought it and thought I'd look up parts for it and repair it myself and I couldn't find anything at first. I finally found a site but it was in the US and shipping was expensive. I kept it in mind but kept searching for cheaper parts.
Eventually after moving the Galaxy A20 phones on eBay from one of my other Job Lot videos, I then had PayPal funds. So I used them to purchase the parts needed and I got them today and decided to film the process!
Does that make sense? Probably not uh...
TL;DR: I am putting a new front OLED and camera glass on a Moto Razr Fold 2019 to have in my collection.
The story time takes like 5 minutes and the repair is most of the rest so yeah, hope you enjoy this one for what it is. It is nothing special but people always ask for repair videos so here it is!
Not sponsored - but if you want to check out Mobile Defenders (Who I got the parts from) - check them out here:
www.mobiledefenders.com/
If you need OEM stuff, they have fairly good service and I had no dramas. Shipping costs are the only thing but I paid it because I needed the parts as this was the ONLY place to find them!
Be good people alright!

Hi @SMOOREZ I did check if they had any parts for the Huawei P10 Plus but could not find any. I have a Huawei P10 Plus Dual Sim 128GB VKY-L29 collecting dust after it had failed firmware upgrade and it got hard bricked and stone dead. It needs a new mainboard to get it back in working order.

Just watched ur p40 something rewiew can u try running google camera on these fake phones next time
I never realized, I make hinge noises! Feels good to have a name for it.
I love how you manage to repair these things, despite their design being basically "replace chip and throw away old phone."
Do a review on the thing, please... You do best and most detailed reviews out there.
dint expect new video that soon :D As for Motorola Folding phone... I remember that it have horrible quality, I was like OMG the hell it is?! My jaw hit the floor when I felt how its open, and that bump at the bottom was so annoying to use screen, they could really just make it tad taller and make space at the bottom between screen and that bump.
This is the honest review of repair I seen, good.luck using this phone for longer time
I just checked out that website and the prices are WAY BETTER than AliExpress!
The box is really cool, reminds me of the HTC Touch Pro box from back in the day, it was such a beauty back in the day
You make it look easy. Thanks for the vid
Really enjoyed, thanks 👍
Cool video! You can make more of these repairs. Very Entertaining :)
Let's get SMOOREZ to 100k! He deserves a lot more than that but it's a start

He managed to make a ten minute video into a 30 minute torture fest. If it was just the repair it would have been great but instead we get to see how he is cheap and doesn't really care about the quality of his repairs.
Have you got any recommendations for the service tools you use and proper adhesive, in case anyone want to try phone repairs? Cheers, Jim.

For repairs, you want a decent toolkit. The one I use is a 117 in 1 kit that I got off eBay for less than $20 AUD. Metal Prytool and plastic pry tools also on eBay are needed. Some credit cards also. Adhesive wise, there are rolls of 3M tape you can get on eBay as well, from 1MM to 10mm. I personally use 2MM, 3MM and 5MM to stick down backs of phones. It's not the best adhesive and you lose any water resistance but it works for the most part. If you want to simplify purchasing tools and such, iFixit is a great place to purchase tools and such. Hope this helps!
Hey man, i am really curious how old flagships (from like 2015-2017) compare to current year (2020-2021) budget smart phones. I hope that you could make a video out of it for all the people who consider buying a older flagship instead of a budget phone.

I can give you the short version: "If you can stomach short battery life (due to use and older chip power consumption) older flagships are a good idea"
Lets go new video
I always wanted one of these just because they look cool...however, I just can't justify spending so much on a phone anymore since I don't really have any friends...

I'll be your friend... as long as you're not 12 years old and female cos I don't want to get in any trouble 😉😉😉
Yay!
Just started watching on my Razr 5G. 👀
Stressful repair? No, err ... hold on ... where have all my fingernails gone?? Well done, very good result.
Hey people! I actually want to comment on this video. Because I have the Motorola razr 5g, the successor to this original phone. It's amazing to see how far Motorola went with the second gen of this phone because let me tell you guys from my experience with the second gen of this phone. Let me tell you, they improved the material and the hinge of the phone actually, like the phone actually has quite a weight to it since they used more of a hefty material instead of the plastic. When I first got it the hinge didn't make much of a noise but as I used it more, like a week I started to hear alittle noise but tbh it's not that noticable at this point. Honestly I like how they did the hinge on the second version cause it doesn't feel like u have to worry about the screen messing up as much. Of course when you first get the phone you are nervous about opening and closing it quickly, but you honestly get used to it quickly. I also like how the second version you don't tend to see the crease cause of how the hinge works. Creating a teardrop type of fold rather than the solid crease of the z flip. It's honestly a much better phone than the original razr and I have loved using using it ever since. I feel like alot of people look at this one more than the second version. So I wanted to let y'all know the second is marginally better.
I recommend buying "phone glue" from eBay or Aliexpress. I got the one called b7000 and it's great for screens. The glue is pretty strong but the good part of it is that it does not dry up. So it's like the original glue that you can heat up and get it off if you don't like the fit.

I've replaced a couple of screens (for my own phones) and have used a generic super glue but for customers I use a more proprietary brand so will look into the one you mention.. Thanks.
every time it closes it looks like it will break in the middle
You should try Motorola RAZR 2020 5g it's much improved
Cool
DO A REVIEW PLEASE.
Yay Motorola RAZR
I would actually love a review video of this. I don't know a single thing about this phone, nor that it even excisted. Most iPhone users like myself don't pay much attention to Android based phone models.
Oh man good to see FedEx is as janky over there as it is in the US
Review it plz...😉

Hearing you having a mini heart attack is funny
Finally pulled the trigger on this junkie arse phone, should get it in a couple of days. Half tempted to try it as a daily driver but I'm not sure I can go backwards from a late 2021 flagship. Can't get a case for this any more without paying a fortune and no way I am replacing the front screen like Smoorez. Really wanted the 5G 2020 but they just don't come up in Aus. (Rewatching the Smoorez video I first found him though)
You should always wipe your contact areas with alcohol before applying your tape. You'll notice the difference. I hate delicate phones. It's the reason I haven't replaced my LG V20 yet. It's almost 5 years old, been dropped a bunch of times with just a thin silicone skin. Still looks and works great...3 batteries later.

Can recommend Samsung A70 in that case. Its relatively rugged and not so delicate (and, if you ask me, quite simple to repair as well).

I was using my old Nokia Lumia until I bought the Umidigi power 3 last year based on a review here.. The Lumia was bullet proof just a shame about the OS, I did wonder about reflashing it with a stock android OS, is this possible I wonder?????
@IsmaelWensder

@@Holycurative9610 No, a specific Android build should be made for the device, with compatible drivers, bootloader, not an easy process, that is why old devices don't have Android.
hey smoorez!
I would not trust myself doing this at all,
Nice rickroll lol Edit: it's at 10:27
2nd then 😁
I hope he knows it's Moto RAZR 2019 not 2020

Tbh Motorola looks ugly compared to Samsung Z flip
Just reminds me why I hate FedEx, lost my package, hits my grandma's car then runs , always late, also lets start making 1000$ phones you keep in your pocket a little more resilient
Joining in your Fedex misery, Fedex US is also absolutely horrid.
