Smoking Ribs: How I smoke meat on a budget upright smoker
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hi Guys,
This is what it is all about for me, using my allotment in every way. I love cooking so the smoker was just another thing I wanted to include. Within time when everything is growing, I can have the meat in the smoker and prepare the salad whilst I wait!

As long as youve started your charcoal well before putting it in the smoker you don't need extra ventilation at the bottom of it, there is enough of a gap to give it a really slow burn for long slow smoking. Enjoy 😊
Thanks for taking the time to put this together and inspire us to get cooking. Very helpful and informative and a good guide. Just assembled a large smoker and did not have a clue how to use it until I watched this vid. Have a smoking’ hot day!
Your a legend bought the same one from Bunnings in Australia and me and my bro pulled off smoking for our first time because of you! Legend 👊

Just got mine for christmas and was hoping to find a video with the same smoker as well 😂 First smoke tomorrow lads wish me luck 🙏🏽
The best, most informative video on a budget smoker/bbq, I have seen. Superb, many thanks.
I tried it as the same way you did. The result: just great! It is the first try i did with a smoker. Thanx man. Greetz from the netherlands
I started with this very smoker and am very glad I did ! It's very hands on and teaches you alot on how to smoke. I moved up to the Pit-barrel which was next level but still very hands on , which I like. I now own a Traeger ! I would recommend his smoker to anyone getting started, great little smoker !
Wow, looks exactly like the same smoker I also just bought for under £40. I first used it last Sunday and did a BBQ first just over the hot charcoal and with only the bottom piece to have some quick food, that was great :-) I then added more charcoal, and whisky chips that I had soaked for a day but wrapped in an aluminium tin, leaving it open at the top and placed directly on the charcoal. I then added the water bowl and that contained soaked mixed pickling herbs and spices. On the bottom rack I placed similar sized joints of beef, lamb and pork, but not wrapped in foil. On the top rack I put chicken thighs, duck breast, tuna steak, mackerel fillets, trout fillets and shelled boiled eggs, also unwrapped, and just left it to cook overnight. I had no problem with the airflow and the chimney vent was closed - heat rises saw draws in the air at the bottom. Everything turned out fully cooked, really tasty, and succulent. I didn't add any sauces or marinade the food beforehand, and didn't even brine my joints like I usually do. So more experimentation to come! So pleased to have come across this video though :-)
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. Good information for those new to smoking and testing the waters with a cheaper smoker unit. Really appreciate it mate.
Thanks for the video, man. Got the same smoker for Christmas and your video has given me a great insight to how to get started.
So I just bought a smoker like yours and figured I'd learn to use it .. thx for your time.. food looks great
Well done guys. So simple and best video ever👍
I just got a bullet smoker just like this one. This helped so much! Didn’t really know how to use it. great video:)
Just put together one of these smokers. Here's hoping that we can make something that looks as mouth watering as what you just have!!

Good for you buddy, I get that same joy from cooking as an amateur & I literally found the same smoker then looked for a how to use that specific one video. So thankyou for giving me a step by step. I'll be getting one now & making my neighborhood hungry with the smell of slow cooked smoked BBQ.👍🙏✌️
Thanks for the indepth guide on how to use these small bullet smokers. As someone who's about to buy one it was extremely helpful. I'm looking forward to my ribs now.👍🙏✌️

Just got one of those smokers, used it today and completley ballsed it up. Reckon I was using cheap lumpwood and not allowing enought air to flow. Great video, enjoyable just to watch.
Just got one of these used for $5. Found this while searching how to use it. Excited to give this a go--thanks for a great video.
I have a smoker just like that as a retirement gift and can’t wait to use it, thank you for this video now I know just how to do a brisket and chicken.

Which one did you purchase? Having a hard time after reading so many reviews!
I've got one of these 3 in 1 smokers. I got it last year and even bought a cover for it. I've never used it. I actually wanted a barbecue not a smoker. I am gonna try it but I think I may be selling it on. Great video
Loved this video Joe! Thank you 👍
Hey Joe, thanks for your vid really cool low key introduction to the type of elcheapo smoker I’ve got! It was a fun video to watch. I’m kicking my smoker into fear for the first time tomorrow, Australia Day 2022 (Jan 26) Cheers!
I'm in Toronto and I can smell that food from here, darn it, i'm hungry now! 🥴
Just the video I was looking for 👌
Thank you for that great video that explains how-to use a smoker! I just borrowed one from a friend of mine to smoke lake trout. But your video convinced me to do some ribs. I want ribs now baby! LOL ;)
Looks bloody lovely
Omg, we dont eat meat (you almost converted us back 😉😂😂) but you have inspired us to buy a smoker as there is plenty of things we make that can be smoked, we miss our bbq's but this is a fab alternative. Thanks Jo
I went and bought myself a smoker after watching this video but even though I ain’t finished yet me thinks I over funk it. Me now ordering some decent coal ready for attempt numero two. M8 I need them ribs for my allotment bbq’s.
I went to sleep starving last night lol dreamt about ribs. Told my son he now wants a smoker lol.
Skilled lad! Well done looked lovely. 👍🏻
Such a happy video mate, watched it all without fast forwarding, unusual for me. Looked delicious. I noticed a rack went missing, u must have been hungry
Brilliant video. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I just assembled the exact same smoker and am about to do a whole chicken (with a lemon stuffed in it).

Here in the states they sell a similar model ,but has only one door and doesn't have that little smoke stack ,but is constructed exactly like that otherwise. I just got one this week so I will using this as a how to. haha
Cool I just put one together getting ready to spark it up! Thanks.

How'd it turn out?
i just got a similar smoker and I was concerned it wasn't getting hot enough or maybe it was junk . I feel a lot better after watching this.
Well how much did I enjoy this video? Enough to go online and order the smoker, charcoal starter and briquettes. That little laugh of yours - reminds me of mine when I'm feeling very pleased with myself!! xx

This is maybe you’re best vid.
I just bought yesterday the same BBQ for 80 euros , and I watched this very carefully because when i assembled it i was a bit mixed up about it at the bottom part of this bbq because it was just a tray and the surrounding was uncovered . Thanks for this video a good explaining video . Some advise for the next time you need a camera person to watch the movement of your hands doing 😉 good luck 👍 and thanks .
Great smoker update.................. my mouth is watering as I sit here drinking my JD.

I should know from watching, but are you growing rosemary Joe. Makes for a perfect basting brush & straight in the compost when done.
I need one of these in my life . It might be a bit of a struggle waiting all those hours to eat though 🤣. As always thanks for sharing .
Im in NE Scotland. Can pick a whole oak (whiskey soaked)barrel up for £25 and chip it up yourself :) Winner winner Smokey Dinner XD
Many thanks for this superb explanation. I did buy one of those a few days ago and could not figure out how to use it.

Can I offer a newbie a bit of advice? I have found that soaking any wood chips to let them smolder an coat the meat with a "smoky" flavor is a really bad idea. I tried the "soaked chips" early on when I first started as well but now changed up. Even using dry wood in these little smokers can be iffy...but there is a way to use them. #1.. use a good quality lump charcoal... not briquettes. It burns longer and potentially hotter with less ash to deal with. Using straight lump you can still achieve a nice mild smoked flavor. #2.. IF you want a lil more smoky flavor, be sure and bury wood CHUNKS.. (not the stuff shown here)… bury them under the lump charcoal. The reason for this is you need a good hot complete burn of the gases coming off the wood. The worst enemy of smoked foods is the blue grayish smoke that is emitted with incomplete burn. That is creosote... and will condense on your food.. potentially giving it a bitter nasty taste. IF said smoke is made to pass thru good hot burning lump charcoal above it.... that burns the creosote off before it gets to your food. Still.. use it sparingly... maybe just 2-4 chunks of good dry wood will give all the extra smoke flavor you need. So that is my reasoning behind advising against using soaked wood chips. … because they just smolder with that blue gray smoke that stick to your food. Believe me... this is from experience and your real championship cooks will tell you the same thing. Coming from your vents should only be a very light wispy white smoke.. if any is visible at all. Check out tips from Harry Soo... and how he sets up his fire/coals in his similar cookers and wins at competitions. He has tons of vids on KZread with really great advice. No offense intended to the guy posting this vid. .. and apologies for writing a book here for you to read. Hope you and yours make it thru these crazy times!!

Thanks for sharing. I think this makes sense and is good information. You don't need to see the smoke, you just need to taste it. Cheers!
Fantastic vid. I'm looking at one these as opossed to an off set as it takes up too much room on a boat. Which I live on
Wow, that looks fantastic... hope you let Otis have a little bit...😊😊😊
The way you stuff your face in the Jack Daniel's wood chips to smell it made me laugh xD
Lot of people say here a lot of words but I will keep it simple. Thank you :) I'm after one now
That really looks good & I just brought myself one of those smokers & I am going to see how it turns out ✌🏾😋
M8 them ribs look unreal I’ve ordered 1 of those smokers of Amazon hopefully get it up n running for the wkend

Not really, you are steaming your food, not smoking it. Its a bad idea. Produces a bad taint to your food too. Use dry wood chunks.
Well, I’ve just had a piece of toast and now I want RIBS!! You’re going to have so much fun with that Joe. Perfect for spending a day down the allotment and having it smoking away while you work. Magic! And considering all the BBQ snobs slag those smokers off, it just goes to show that the right chef can do a great job with one. Look forward to seeing more of your cooks :)
Great video, very informative and you have a very chill and easy going manner. Like and subbed :)
Good on ya.. Great video peace from 🇦🇺
Mmm yummy looked delish 👌
beer in the water pan also adds flavor when it evaporates. i usually put 1 can of beer per 2/3 cups of water doesnt got to be straight beer. defintely good.
Great video, I just got one of these smokers as my first smoker. How often did you have to keep topping up the coals during the cook
very help full just got one
