SMK PR900 .22 Review-Big Dan's Airguns.

The day has finally come that our PR900 review will air! The question is that if the rifle is truly worth the wait or is it just a piece of trash?
In this review we put the little PR900 through its paces through the chronograph and also over our 25 yards range. There's also a new challenge for the PR900 at 65 yards to truly see what the rifle can do.
We apologise for the length of this video and for the technical error for our 25 yards magazine test. If you ever have any questions or would like to suggest a rifle for review then please leave a comment down below and we''ll add it to our list.
Thanks for watching!

    Hi Dan, I looked at this and it's cousin the SMK CP2 price was similar until you realise you need a pump so I bought the CP2. The CP2 is a great little bit of kit, close to the HW 30 at 20m, I've had it fettled by a gunsmith with custom stainless steel internals and sorted out the barrel alignment issue that the CP2 shares with the PR900W. I am well pleased with it, SMK have really upped their game.

    Great review Dan, This was my first PCP, caved in to peer pressure and all my friends had tried it:) For the money, you can't go wrong, although I had a pump and a 3-9x50AO scope..total cost bout 250quid. Great for rats, pigeons around the farm and the odd rabbit. Ideal starter pack without breaking the bank.

    Hi Darren! They're excellent aren't they? The PR900 is one of the few rifles that even the guys with expensive tastes admit is a good gun. £250 isn't bad at all and you've got the complete package there. A customer of mine compares his very favourably to his Air Arms S200! Praise doesn't get much better than that.

    Very Good gun for the money. I had one in .177 shot many squirrels with it and was taking pigeons out at 55 yards no problem. I put a viper 2 silencer on and it was really quiet. The gun is very well made and the bolt does get smoother more you use it. I liked the safety and got to say I liked the trigger better than my hw110. The worst thing is the mags. jsb pellets in it can't go wrong. I was getting about 25-30 good shots per fill if I remember rightly.

    Regarding adding silencer, can get a very nice quality fit and finish (and light at ~10g) adaptor from guntuff that allows use of common 1/2" unf. Only £6. Then can fit any high quality silencer of choice (I have gone with Hogan Decimeater myself).

    I bought one of these three years ago to strip down and work out the accuracy problems and variations in power. Firstly the barrel had to be cleaned out and the crown reworked at the muzzle end, it was shocking. At the breech end the seal was taken off and the seat was reworked because the seal didn't sit on the seat and leaked air. The bolt didn't locate the pellet far enough down the breech and partially obscured the TP, the bolt system had to be reamed out. Those were the easy fixes. We found that the valve system didn't line up with the TP properly and caused inconsistency, that was reworked but we still had a problem. We took the valve assembly out of the titanium cylinder which wasn't easy after we discharged the cylinder completely of air. It's friction held and once we got it out we found the screws holding the valve spring had worked loose and the valve was on the verge of collapse which could have been a catastrophic failure dumping the entire charge through the TP in seconds. We used locktite to rebuild the valve system and rebuilt the gun. It was then over the limit but unfortunately there is no adjustment on the hammer to regulate power so the hammer spring had to be shortened little by little until we got it down to 11.2fpe. Did a little work on the trigger to smooth things out and finally we had a decent rifle with a variation of 7fps. I've been tuning guns for 40 years and i've never come across such a lemon in all my days. Terrible engineering and build quality and that's why they are 200 quid. Could have been a good rifle if they had taken care building it.

    I've just got mine and will say this, if you want to get into pcps and are intimidated by hand pump let's just say it is so close to effortless. I started out with PCP pistols like the Artemis pp750 and the crosman discovery and this bye far is the easiest to pump.I put a regulator in mine and I and several of my shooting buddies were blown away by both consistency and shot count. I received 70 full powered shots with a 2.5 fps standard deviation. I've shot guns 5 times higher in price that struggle with consistency like that. I can't speak of unregulated although a buddy has a stormrider that doesn't have regulator and gets no were the consistency nor the shot count. Great review and it's been one of my favorites and other than yours isn't got a regulator though that's a after market item. If your on the fence don't hesitate this is really a nice little guy

I fited a Robert Lane regulator and a barrel support at the front of the gun an the little gun is shooting at 30 yards 5 pellets almost same hole. Around 30 usd on aliexpress. I have 3 of them. Just don't let them overheat. That should not be a problem on this small cylinder. They work fine even on much larger pcps, with a cooling-off break when the cylinder is empty. The trick is to top up the cylinder instead of running it empty.

Having to force some brands of pellets into breech must damage them and effect accuracy ? Oh why oh why doesn't the snow peak factory sort out these issues? My 2 pr-900w and my pp800 pistol are all regulated with Robert Lane. Excellent regs. When installing them, I kept the gauge block. Made a cut in the o-rings: the regulator o-ring closest to the gauge and the gauge block o-ring closest to the reg. This enables the reg to breathe, which maximizes shot consistency. Those guns have titanium cylinders. Amazing for the low cost. The only real attention point is the cocking lever. Cock gently, grabbing the lever close to where it connects with the pellet probe (not at the end). And some of the guns need a gentle deburring/polishing at the breech for larger diameter pellets to cycle well with the mag.

  • @jko9250

    @jko9250

    3 жыл бұрын

    My description above is for installing the reg into the pr900w (aka diana stormrider or onix initzia) long guns. Note, do not cut any other o-rings than the two indicated. Otherwise you will not be able to pressurize your gun. Look for instructions before opening up a PCP -- never do so before depressurizing it 100%. Otherwise VERY bad stuff will happen. For the pistol (aka Diana Bandit) the reg installation concept is similar, but it lacks a gauge block. The reg therefore abuts the valve block, and the o-ring to cut is the front o-ring where the reg touches the valve block.

    @@lseide1322 For £250 your best bet for a new PCP would be an SMK PR900. They're a good and accurate little gun but the shot counts on them are quite low (around 35 in .177 and 50 in .22) so if you're target shooting constantly filling the rifle could be a nuisance. For CO2 your best bets are the SMK XS78 and the SMK 501 Rabbit Destroyer. The 78's are accurate but are lower power (7-9ft-lbs) although there is a ton of tuning options out there for them. The 501 is high power (10-11ft-lbs) but there isn't so many tuning options available for them... they are made better in my opinion however. If it was my choice I'd get a springer, at that budget you could get a very good one such as the Cometa 400's or the 300 and have some change spare. You'll not need to buy capsules/pumps/bottles etc and with enough practice you'll be every bit as good with a springer as what you'll be with a PCP. They're also considerably more fun and reliable. I hope this helps Silk and sorry for the huge reply.

    The TP is a brass connector between the air cylinder and the barrel. You can take it out after degassing (fully!!) and then taking the action apart. Be careful to use the right bit for the small screw in the breech -- not a regular allen key but a star shaped one. Drill the TP half way from either side, preferably with a table press drill, starting with a thinner drill bit and then a larger one until you reach 80% of your caliber. If you mess it up you can buy spares from Balistas in Czech. Good luck.

  • @jko9250

    @jko9250

    By the way, you are likely to have to enlarge the barrel TP as well to the same diameter. Do NOT use a drill bit for that! Instead use a dremel and fashion an oval lengthwise in the barrel. Polish any burrs inside the barrel otherwise your pellets will get clipped, killing your accuracy. You are also likely to need to enlarge your valve block outlet port to the same diameter. Go slow ...
