Smith & Wesson CSX 9mm…The Handgun that GunTube Killed

Спорт

#smithandwesson #9mmpistol #9mmluger
Today we are taking a look at a handgun that I believe got a bad rap from internet guntubers. The S&W CSX is a misunderstood concealed carry release that just didn’t get the recognition it deserves. Thanks for watching my video. If you are looking for some really sweet custom handgun grips go over to Browne Works Inc and check them out.

Not a bad gun - the main issue is the trigger, which I had no issue with this gun. It’s an interesting trigger but is fine for what it’s intended for.

I like this pistol. My training doesn't allow riding the reset. So, no reset issues. Also, in my mind, this is not a plinker. Train with it but use something different for long sessions at the range. Finally, it is a back-up piece for 7 yards. A back-up gun is better than no gun.

Another straight up honest review. Nice shooting, looks like an accurate little pistol. The thing is the $$. At $550-575 it's much higher than many of the small carry 9mm's. Smith is dumping Shield plus on the market for less than $400 plus a $50 rebate. So I don't really see a sustainable market for this gun except for those, such as yourself, who have many firearms and wants something a little different. The 1911 format in a little carry pistol gets big Cool points. Would like to see one of these come out of their custom shop where they can resolve some of the quirky issues and take this platform up a notch.

This is an excellent take. I didn’t even think about S&W competing against themselves with the Shield and with this pistol being quirky like you stated people are more than likely to gravitate towards the shield. Thanks for watching man. 🤠

I actually think S&W was targeting Law Enforcement with this gun. The 1911 operating style solves the negligent discharge issue of a small striker fired pocket carry gun. Departments would want the obtuse safety for liability. There are more self inflicted gun shot wounds in law enforcement than get reported. This pretty much says negligent discharge not a gun issue.

I would like to complement Smith & Wesson on creating the CSX pistol. I have owned a CSX for over a year. It replaced my M&P Shield PC. The performance has been 100%, maybe better than the Shield. At least it fits and feels better. I must say, it is unfortunate that the internet “gun experts” missed the target completely. The CSX is a conceal carry gun, and a very good one, period. To compare it to a custom, race, target, or tactical gun, which most all did, is far off base. In a self defense situation, the average guy, or maybe everybody, won’t be shooting to trigger reset, and the slightly stiff trigger, with an adrenaline rush, will never be noticed and probably an advantage for better control. Is there room for improvement? Of course, nothing is perfect. I’m not a fan of polymer frame guns. The Shield served a purpose and did it well. Once I have the chance to handle the CSX a few times, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind. Too bad the “experts” tarnished what I feel is the best, affordable CCW’s on the market.

I can tell by your comment that you never fired it and never carried. You immediately formed an opinion by listening to someone else’s opinion who also never fired it but sells it in his store. Also here is a question for you? If the owner of your local gun shop is so trustworthy why is he selling a gun to the general public that he thinks is “terrible?” If it is so terrible why is he willing to tell you to stay away from it but sell it to the unsuspecting person of the street? Seems shady 🧐

I also reside in a 10 round magazine state, so the capacity was not the factor. Based on the trigger and the grip panels, it was a no for me.

The trigger gets smoother over time....Great carry gun... Actually, I bought a H&KVP9SK a week before I bought the CSX, The H&K failed to feed several times at 1st but then cleared up, The CSX never had the first hick-up. I hated the CSX when I first got it until I fixed the trigger, now it's more like shooting a mini 1911. BTW, the trigger is easy to fix. all you need is a small pair of wire cutters and a 6 inch piece if fine Emory cloth or a polishing bit on your dremel tool. There are 5 springs total in the gun not including the recoil and magazine springs. There are two springs that will require work, both are compression springs. There is a spring located inside the trigger shoe, either clip about a 5 coils off of it , stretch it to original length or replace it with a 1/3 lighter spring same length and diameter... there is another spring located behind the spring rest on the sear, do the exact same thing with this one, then polish the mating area of the hammer full cock position notch and the sear full cock position notch, what you will be left with is a 3 lb trigger. Do not attempt to alter the hammer spring, the safety spring, or the slide lock spring. Be careful when disassembling the gun, when removing the safety bar, marked with a 'F', I place the gun inside of a transparent freezer bag size ziplock or storage bag when removing the safety bar and the spring, the little compression spring that pushes the safety bar will fly away and getting a new one is next to impossible. If you are not adventurous or If you don't understand guns or if you don't have other guns in case you mess the gun up I do not recommend doing it. I hope S&W keeps it around and eventually gets around to giving it a refresh, another marketing push or 2.0 model or something because it doesn't deserve to be relegated to the scrap heap of good guns that just didn't do enough things well enough or better enough compared to the competition and at its price point to get traction. I think the most common criticism about the trigger was an unnuanced nit-pick from guntubers who shoot a ton of different guns every year, to include fantastic single action triggers and wanted this to be something it's not. I'm not sure they're going to be able to keep it around with the Shield and other sub-compact striker-fire models being at least as good and generally less expensive though and a highly competitive market for concealed carry guns from other manufacturers.

Not that its relevant, but I think this is one of the nicest looking pistols as well. It looks cool as hell, truely gorgeous. I like the mix of 1911 with modern polymer wonder nines. Maybe the 365 and all its options overshadowed this a lot. But S&W make some of the best looking pistols imo, the best looking non glock would be the M&P 2.0 for me. Also with that exposed hammer the slide can be shorter as you demonstrated, which would help with less mass at the back of the gun on printing when holstered. Manual safeties have gone out of style, but I think they offer some good benefits. Id love to try one.

I don't take issue with the gun itself. Just the trigger. Oh, I never mentioned pounds. I staid stage. It clicks like a revolver after the shot. That's odd. I have a colt mustang that had a semi crappy trigger. But I did my research. Found out I can jewel the trigger. So I bought it and jewledit. It's awesome now. The day sw does something to fix that feeling. I'll buy one. Itsa nice gun

@@izzyiz810 Izzy you can fix it but you have to smooth the ramp on the firing pin block and polish the arm that rides on it.(thats where the clicks are coming from)Then put a little teflon grease on it.If its the black one from older models oil makes it bind in the hole so thats why i say use the teflon.Later ones they switched to a white teflon button that worked better.I also lightened the spring controling it but it is a real pain to get that assy out.Vids are on youtube to disassemble the CSX if you want to try.S&W would not sell me the updated white FP block so thats why i reworked my original.Mine now shoots with one click reset and about 4.5lb or less pull.

I think the thesis to this video is kind of flawed to begin with in that it overstates the impact that Guntubers have on the wider market. I'm sure some amount of influence can be accounted for, but this will be minor at best. Most people who don't know guns will simply walk into a shop and buy what is available. They aren't watching endless videos about what is new in the firearms market and making fair comparisons between what their needs are and what is available (if you listen to most Guntubers, they will complain about Glock not innovating and that Glock is getting left behind... Glock's sales are doing just fine despite this). No, a given gun's success will be based on its own merits and little else. I think the ultimate problem of the CSX is based on market research. The thing looks like it was intended for people who want a 1911 in a micro-compact and that is honestly not a bad idea. The problem is that most people do not want 1911's and those guys who actually do want 1911's want an actual 1911 (or an accepted variation like a 2011), not something that kind of looks like one but not really (the same people I have heard rail against the Sig P238 as not being a real 1911 because it has an external extractor). The actual market for people who want a metal framed, single action, external safety, hammer fired, micro is likely way smaller than S&W envisioned. Such a product could succeed, but it will take a heck of a lot of marketing it correctly in order for it to reach the appropriate audience without some compelling new feature. The problem is that investors expect hits right out of the gate and when the CSX wasn't an immediate hit, it kind of dissuaded any further investing in the platform.

Next time compare the gun to a dollar bill because we all know how big a dollar bill is and none of us know how big your hand is. Nice video.

Personally I don't see any point in the gun's existence. What 's the point?

Thinking of getting one. Slide is very easy and the safety is ambidextrous. Also it is smaller than the Equalizer. Injury to right hand makes racking a Shield extremely difficult. Thanks Smith & Wesson, more options the better. Thanks for the review
