I put a small drop of of hot glue on the visor screws and had no issues and is not noticable, sometimes I did have to remove my gloves to mess with the D-Ring. Quick fix I installed a motorcycle helmet D-Ring quick disconnect that I got from Amazon. I use them on all my motorcycle helmets. Helmet Quick Release Buckle Kit Ratcheted Stainless Steel Helmet Chin Strap Adapter. Excellent review new sub.

Good review; everyone loves them out of the box. After a year you really know... I’m really happy with mine! Never wear my TLD A2 anymore. Maybe next summer...

I can relate to these issues. I don't mind the d-lock and I don't really detach it fully, just loosen it up all the way out. I've solved the squeaking mips issue by applying a cloth tape between the helmet shell and the mips. The screws are really annoying though, the whole visor starts rattling when the come loose. Completely agree about the squad XL goggles too. The wider FOV makes a difference, compared to something like the standard 100% goggle. I couldn't get used to the narrow FOV and as a result have been avoiding goggles when I can. Now, with the squad, I use them all the time. Would definitely buy again, it's much more comfortable than my previous helmet - Bell Super DH, comfort comes close to a dedicated DH fullface helmet.

I agree with you there! Definitely prefer this helmet over others I've used in the past. It breathes so well and also just feels safe. I have no doubt it protects my noggin well! Do you feel like the use of the cloth tape at all hinders the MIPS from being able to move like it should in the event of a crash?

@@ivan.rusanov I actually like the D ring strap but it's the mips noise that bothers me. What tape did you use and how did you apply it? Does it just dampen the sound a bit or does it completely fix the issue? Thanks?

@@clmfilms8103 Yes, it eliminated the squeaking noise for me. Don't think I can post a link, but you can search for "tesa 51608 Adhesive Cloth Fabric Tape" - I think this is the exact tape I have. Taped it to the inside of the helmet shell and the mips plastic now slides on the tape instead.

@@ivan.rusanov thanks, a few days ago I tried this with fabric hokey tape (although only on the contact points and not over vents) and it completely silenced it, but after a full day at the bike park the mips wore right through the tape and got sticky residue on it, making the mips not move properly. Hoping that this tape is more durable

Hi Justin.. nice review.. My old SmithOptics Forefront II had a nut designed into the top of the helmet to bolt down a GoPro mount.. I wish that Smith still offered this secure mounting option.. GoPros are very expensive pieces of equipment. and many GoPro helmet mounts have self stick adhesive to secure them. Funny they didn't see how good that old feature was and maintain/improve on the idea of a secure GoPro mounting system.. Squeaky MIPS..? wondering if a Dry Lube on between the MIPS cage and the koroyd would stop the squeak..? or would it cause the cage to break down.? Lube and rubber doesn't mix, but there is only plastic polymer on the touching parts.. ?.

Whats that mount in the chin? Any link? Thanks

Hey Justin! What’s your head size and how does it fit in the L size helmet? Mine is 62 cm. According to the size guide, I should buy XL but it’s not available neither on Amazon or on Smith’s website. Do you think it will fit in the L with the thinnest pads? Thanks!

Hey Gerardo, I’m right between 58-59cm I wouldn’t recommend you trying the L and switching out the pads just due to the discomfort it’ll likely cause on the scalp area if it’s too tight!

Jesus a lot of other companies screws also fit in. You might be able to get moto helmet screws off amazon. My friend put screws from his moto helmet into his mainline and they fit.

If you’re on the cusp I’d recommend down sizing, what’s most important is that it fits your skull well, it comes with 3 pad options so M is probably best for you.

Visor screws broke easily, otherwise ok.
