Haven't watched this for over twenty years but I still remember every word. Just brilliant. R.I.P. Mel, you'll never be forgotten, Big Fella ❤️🙏
This never gets old. Comedy genius.
Pure gold these two where the best RIP Mel
Comedy Gold.....the standard of WIT comedians such as S & J had at that time a million miles from anything you'd find nowadays 😔😔😔😔
Unmatched comedy. These two were pure genius, full stop.
This is great sit down comedy!
Two of the greatest philosophical minds ever to grace the planet discuss vitally important world issues. Be astounded at their wonderfully complex intellect, as they muse on the temporal and spiritual themes of this and past generations. We are indeed privileged to be in their presence..... ....Alright...I'm off down the boozer...
So glad I discovered this... I still have the original VHS tape! Absolutely love Smith & Jones

That might be worth a fair bit, could put it in a history musuem haha how things have changed :) i tell you what when they use the c word in this it's shockingly funny " can you describe him? " " he's a c*** " now that word is used very often. Manor's have been lost in this world these days.

Smith and Jones - love love love!!!
These two were simply brilliant. "You must have known what he looked like he was your dad!!" 😂😂😂
It's like Peter Cook and Dudley Moore have come back to life.
Legends,what chemistry....
Absolut masterpiece, such a treasure!
Great.Loved the film they made called Wilt.Soooo funny xx
So natural, so talented.. alas
As much as I loved watching this from beginning to end, that was probably THE LONGEST head to head ive ever seen, lol 😜😆😂
Omg. I had this on VHS when it came out, but lost it years and years ago. Thanks so much for uploading!!! :D
Fond memories of Peter Cook & Dudley Moore aka Derek & Clive!

Apart from Peter Cook & Dudley Moore were funny.
How clever were these two in summing up everyday life when taken to the brink. Humour can take us out of a dark spot.
Those two are just awesome.
That legal warning panned out well. I love these two. So darned clever and funny. R.I.P. M.S.
Nice one for the download....miss these two.
Thank you so much for posting this! I bought the video ages ago, but haven't been able to find it for decades; nfi what I did with it. Wonderful to be able to see it again

I miss these two hitting off each other. The awkward moments were made part of the show... or even planned... Traditional comedic timing but with modern* topics. *at the time, gawd I'm old
Brilliant great larf
been looking for this for ages. I haven't seen it since the late 90s
Thanks for this i havent seen it before.
The best!
Absolutely brilliant
Brilliant.
*I loved the Smith & Jones series.*
I saw Alas Smith & Jones being recorded in Shepperton Studios, it was around 2 hours of sketches which appeared in different episodes on TV.
This really holds up well. I like to imagine them as two blokes down at the pub after a long work week, just sharing anxieties, philosophizing and bullshitting.
wow, that was amazing.
Brilliant, RIP Mel
I have this on video, and it's bloody hilarious!
I've heard this before, but never yet seen it. Thanks for the upload! :)
AWESOME!!
Brilliant stuff. I was about to upload this myself but I see you got there first!. Good to see that someone else appreciates it. Sandy, Oh Sandy....

TheWaveDweller Yes it looks great actually; I had wondered how it seemed so much clearer than tape quality, and that explains it. Nice one! Got my copy about 20 years ago from the video shop opposite Liverpool Street station...
They remind me of Peter Cook and Dudley.
Mel ,miss you too this day .comic legend
If there was a tree and a rock and a bowler hat this would be Waiting For Godot with laughs.
Genius.
Mel ; "...I think she might be on E...". Griff ; "...'Eroin..." ?
What's the music used on the intro/outro? I've heard that used on Victor & Hugo and Fantomcat so it must be stock music of some kind.
Two clever actors Rip mel
i needed a good laugh in these trying, Pandemic times, which surely must end soon.
Absolutely priceless, I'd forgotten just how funny they were together. I'm literally crying with laughter watching this. Right up there with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. RIP Mel Smith
Makes me laugh the bit about crabs” those things you get from the fishmonger with big red claws, clippedy clap clap!
I first saw this 1985
So funny so very clever....Mel Smith RIP....

From 1:01:30 is the funniest I've ever heard over 68 years of listening / watching humour.
LOL! The old myth about banana skin and nutmeg. Nutmeg did nothing but giving a bad stomach, and the banana skin did nothing at all, but did kind of taste good when smoked..
Clever how they morph from one topic to another, and they do it so naturally. Do they ad lib these dialogues ?

Pasu suel Oh yes, I know. I used to watch "Alas Smith & Jones" myself. But these face to face dialogues of theirs always got me wondering. Some comedians have a natural talent for ad libbing - the late Robin Williams perhaps ? His rapid fire off the cuff jokes were certainly not scripted ! In that he had a gift, and he was absolutely brilliant.
They even leave the copyright warning in
Spangles disco boat
Mel ; "....I believe in reincarnation....". Griff ; "...Come again..." ?

We lost this great man on the 19th July 2013, he died of a heart attack. Rest in Peace Mel, your genius lives on.
It rhymes with nemon.... what else does it rhyme with? LMAO!
Great double act but it's a bit petty but I found Griff's nasal voice annoying
Unnecessary use of the F word...far too many times, pointless adds nothing
@TheWaveDweller

99% of the jokes here are clean. The F word and others are all part of the english language, a language that Smith and Jones have used expertly here. If you leave particular words out, then the whole piece loses realism.

In those days you could get away with it!
I think this is a very poor concert frankly. NO GREAT LAUGHS HERE. They lost it.
Very disappointed with this. Childish dialogue and not funny at all. The other comments are just base on memories when they were good.
Wish You tube would put together a site, that allowed comments, to share their favourites (try not to swear- but my Household treat MSN and Bill Gates as swearwords nowadays, and have to go to bed with no dinner). Could be worth more than $5 a month to subscribe and take all Gatesy's ad income away. Want to to MSN file for Chapter 11, they will have to, the sooner the better.
Unnecessary use of the F word...pointless adds nothing
