Even at the end of the episode (1:05), Pim still gets annoyed with Charlie since he *still* has no idea what the Renaissance men are or what they do. He even acknowledges that "They didn't look like renaissance; It's like, a completely different era." Every character has such a wide, realistic set of emotions and reactions to the shit happening around them, it's insane how well these characters are written. Honestly, I was worried about Pim being a "blind-to-the-world, dense, happy-go-lucky" sort of character with the pilot, but he actually ended up being one of the most fun, dynamic characters in the show.

I just love how pim gets pissed off about The Renaissance men not being from the Renaissance Pim Might actually know a lot about history or at least enough to know what The Renaissance was

Honestly the writing in this show is so just... Real. People actually mishear each other and have pointless conversations that go no where. Genuinely feels like a conversation I could have with one of my friends

I love how the thing that enrages Pim is NOT the fact that the Renaissance Men rolled up and murdered Grim and Gnarly, but that he STILL can't make heads or tails out of who they are supposed to be 😂

I love how the dialogue is so organic, like the stutters, the little interruptions yet it doesnt sound forced or is intruding for the viewer to listen to

The exasperated okay pin gives at the end is how I feel a lot of the time

The way Pim says "ok" at the end makes this the most amazing scene ever animated and put to screen.

I know Charlie's the straight man but I really don't know why I expected him to show Pim that gif of the chewing character at the beginning.

The goofiest thing is that if charlie would actually read the article attached to the headline he would know who, and what the renaissance men are. It speaks to his character that he reads the headline, and nothing else even when questioned about the content.

I've heard several people refer to the dialog in this show as being very authentic, and despite the absurd resolution, this joke exemplifies that for me. I listened to Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel talk about Smiling Friends' creation process on The Create Unknown podcast. Apparently, the opening of Frowning Friends was more or less an actual conversation that the two of them had during some late-night brainstorming for the Frowning Friends episode. Zach (very much being Zach, if you're familiar with OneyPlays) said something about the Renaissance Men coming into town, and Michael responded with genuine confusion as to what he was talking about, and the whole thing went on for like 15-20 minutes.

I can totally understand where both sides are coming from. If I was Pim, I really wouldn't know how to progress the conversation if I didn't know who the Renaissance men were. That "okay." was so real.

It's so out-of-character of Pim to basically ignore a double murder because he's confused about the Renaissance men, but it still fits perfectly because of how well it was set up.

Apparently the opening scene was recorded at 2am and Zach was exhausted at home.

I just realized Mr. Boss is doing the Peanuts dance. And by judging his Halloween costume I guess you can really tell he's a fan of Snoopy and company

There's something really satisfying about seeing the four of them lined up from tallest to shortest

Hearing the story behind this adds such a layer, you can even hear the late bad mic from zach.

Me thinking "they dont look like they are from the renaissance period" like the annoying history nerd that I am and then Pim saying "That's not renaissance" right after sent my sides flying the first time I watched this. Such a weird but amazing gag most other shows wouldn't do, that's why this show needs as many seasons as the creators want until they feel it's done.
