Smiling Friends But it's Old Hanna Barbara
Фильм және анимация
Smiling Friends but it's a Hanna Barbara cartoon! Had a lot of fun recreating Charlie and Pim in that retro cel animation look!
The music is Sneaky by Kevin by Macleod, and if anyone's wondering, the audio is from the 1st episode of the second season.

You really nailed the style, the simple walk cycles, the stilted animation, the way they move their heads without shifting their bodies at all

Hannah Barbara cartoon characters always had something around their neck, such as a scarf, ascot, large neck collars, etc. This was to make head movement easier, as they didn't have to paint new cells for the body and head together. The neck pieces were markers for the animators so lining up the shot connecting the head and neck would be easier. EDIT: Shaggy built different guys, he doesn't count. XD

A lot of humor is simply nostalgic joyful relatability
>Zach Hadel (born 1943) and Michael Cusack (born 1940) became cartoonists at Hannah-Barbara in their ripe 20’s, together they created the hit show, Smiling Friends. A series that quickly became a trailblazer that was decades ahead of it’s time due to it’s snappy, semi-improvised dialogue and unorthodox sense of humor. >Smiling Friends ran for a whopping 14 Seasons, a record breaker among Hannah-Barbara’s extensive catalogue and the series would go down in history as an iconic piece of animation history held in regard as high as the likes of other timeless classic such as The Flinstones and Scooby Doo. Merchandise of the original series are now priceless collectors items, a plushie of Charlie once infamously sold for $600,000 on EBay in 2011.
@usefulaccount1835

>Smiling Friends, as we all know, would even receive a reboot aimed at adults on Adult Swim that appears to also be on it’s way as a pop culture phenomenon. Zach Hadel even cameo’d in multiple episodes, such as playing the store owner in An Alan Adventure, who was also uncannily modeled after him >Michael Cusack would sadly pass away in 2002 when his then 25 year old wife murdered him by poisoning his food with arsenic over the course of six years to inherit his massive fortune given to him by his work on Smiling Friends and the other Hannah-Barbara classic of his creation, The Adventures of Koala Man. >Some other shows that Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack headed during their time at Hannah-Barbara included The Mr. Frog Show, Gwimbly The Whatzit and Daniel The Demon Slayer, all three of the titular stars of these shows having all began as characters on Smiling Friends, Mr. Frog of course being a fan-favorite who made countless appearances across the show’s 14 season run. Some say Zach and Michael were some of Hannah-Barbara’s most iconic, legacy animators, second only to the two fellows the company gained their namesake from.

When Charlie faces the camera in the normal show, it’s terrifies me. When he does it in this, he’s a much nicer looking guy
I definitely love the old cel animation style of this short & the muffled audio really helps nail the feel of 70s animation that this is going for.
this is actually the lost episode where they give a bear a picnic basket to cheer him up
Chuckling Pals
The walk cycle, the raising of the head when talking, the starring at the camera. It’s just so authentic.

Feels like a golden age Adult Swim show.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if you're hired for some animation change in the show
The audio is so well executed. The visuals are spot on but the audio really elevates it. And i love the drop shadow on the characters! Great attention to detail my guy.
Points for consistent inconsistency since they're on the wrong side of the street and walk past the building they're walking to.

Nice inclusion of collars to hide that they have no necks

This was on-point, well done.
The background music was a nice touch.
Great work!
ASTONISHING, MATE!!! It's so true to the chosen style even the limited scenery and repetitive walk cycles were on par!
It’s funny how it unintentionally ends up feeling more like a very early adult swim show with the limited animation movements and the dry dialogue. Like if you told me this was pitched at the same meetings as Space Ghost and Aqua Teen I would absolutely believe that.
The minute I clicked the video, my mind just went like: "Kevin MacLeod?"
I actually LOVE this style on Smiling Friends.
This is really well done, good job!
Front Facing Charlie litterally looks like "Mr Tayto" the Irish Crisps mascot
To make it perfect, they should've been walking past the exact same building over and over
I like how Pim's walk cycle is markedly faster than Charlie's.
the makers need to see this, they'll love it
Wow this is awesome, really nailed the style! I hope they get a glance at this, we need a full episode in this style
Charlie tilting his head back slightly like they always did in old HB Cartoons for some reason really brings this together
Imagine being scared when your boss gets stuck in a loop and then realizing the background is also looping
This is incredibly charming and something I didn’t know I needed until now.
I love all of the creative works that have come out of this show! Wonderful job ❣️
while watching this, i noticed that charlie’s eyes and unibrow make up an upside down smiley face and now i can’t unsee it lol

from charlie giving big flinstones vibes to the walk cycle and sounds, you nailed it. this is so good
Giving Charlie a Moomin build is genius. Great work!
That was spot on. The best part is this would absolutely fit for the show.
I love this artstyle! if the Smiling friends where in the old school Hanna Barbara art style I can see them looking like this!
The slight shadows casting onto the background beneath them like actual old animation cels is a great touch
I loved them in whacky Racers.
Watching this makes me wish Hannah Barbara were still around
The sound design is underrated here! Great touch
My favorite subtle part is the shading beneath the characters to replicate the way for animation celoids were used
I would watch the whole show like this.
I love the look of them
I remember watching reruns of smiling friends on boomerang growing up, it's so great to see clips from the old show archived online.
