Brings back memories... makes me think of the type of sadness you get when you're thinking about when you grew up and you can feel yourself forgetting it. Everyday you remember less and less.

museick28 Live in the present moment, that I can do. But not look back is a thing I can't. We're all walking backwards into the future. We look at our past as we walk away from it. That's why we can't see the future. I can't help but look back. My memories are irreplaceable, invaluable, incorruptible. And vanishing before my eyes. I know I can't have my childhood back, but I never have to let go of it. I'll remember as long as I can.

Look at the good. Did you ever play in the street at night? Did you ever throw rocks into lakes? Did you have a song you listened to that made it all okay? For me, it was this one. Smile Like You Mean It.

It used to get to me, too. Especially in the months that lead to the end of my last relationship. Because I knew that was going to happen at some point. And it would REEAALLLY fuck me up, buddy. But life goes on.

As kids we were all happy because we didn’t know what life was really like. As we grow older we realize how chaotic and laden with suffering life really is. Breakups, deaths, depression, betrayals, aging, dead dreams, etc. These experiences make you want to breakdown and cry but you have to save face so you at least appear happy. Smile like you mean it…

This generation of pre to late-teens needs to listen to this song and absorb its meaning. It's certainly brought up a valid point, and makes me realize that I'm not old yet, but time will fly. Make the most of your time, and have memories you'll want to keep.

I'm 17, and I discovered this song when I was 7/8 years old. I never really understood the meaning of the song until I started listening to this again just this recently. It's telling us pre- to late teenagers to keep living, growing, learning, and enjoying our lives from here on then. And "smile like 'we' mean it" throughout. ^^

Sitting here, eating a sandwich from Carl's Jr and on its box says "Eat Like you mean it." Made me think of this song, couldn't stop thinking about so here I am listening to the killers and suddenly remembering that it's actually quite a sad song. As sad as it may be, it just reminds me how grateful I am to get through all the tough shit to still be here today, enjoying this yummy food, roof over my head, and smiling because I do mean it now. It gets better. I mean it.

I can remember listening to this as a young kid, sitting in the backseat of my parents car, walkman at my side with my earphones in listening to "Hot Fuss". It was my favorite CD and when I look back I realise how much their music meant to me at the time, and now. For that, I thank The Killers for making, easily, one of the best albums ever and allowing our ears to behold it. Thanks

My parents just sold their house the house that I grew up in with my brother and that had been in the family for 50 years, this song hits hard now knowing that someone else will enjoy all the things I did. It’s hard but I’m happy for someone else to get enjoyment out of that house like my family did.

This comment is dedicated to the memory of my Grandad (1934-2016). He lived in Eastbourne with my Granny, who is still alive today, until his death in 2016. Historically, when going to Eastbourne, Dad would usually drive me down. The radio reception as we went through the South Downs (which are full of chalk) was quite poor, so we usually had a CD playing in the car - often an album by The Killers. I don't think there are any albums by The Killers that Dad doesn't have. To this day, I still associate The Killers with East Sussex (the county in England where Eastbourne is located).

This song brings me memories.. A lot of them but the one that especially gets me is when it says, 'Smile like you mean it', because it sounds like a voice in my head that comes when I feel down. But it also sounds a lot like my dad. When I was younger he'd always tell me, ''Come on, do a REAL smile. I can see that fake one. ''
