Yea, because we know Luigi would go too the ends of the earth to save Mario, but(at least in smg4) Mario(before this) has never shown that he genuinely cares for Luigi that much beyond him just being his brother. This sudden crack when he thinks Luigi is legitimately gonna die is what makes it hit so hard.

SMG4 goes all out on emotional scenes, first it was Luigi sacrificing himself, turns out it was Kool-Aid, then Meggy crying, usually emotional, AND THEN DESTI FUNKING DIES, A movie, A movie 2.0 where X and FM are presumed dead and more SMG4L (Super Mario Glitchy 4 Lore)

5 years later, Luigi's sacrifice still makes me tear up. Shows how much times have SMG4 changed for years with their stories and character development.

Luigi sacrificing himself is the saddest thing ever, before I realised he was still alive I felt sorry for mario
