you're probably the only person in history to solder 008004 by hand

Putting a blob of solder on the one PCB pad and then moving the part with a tweezer towards that heated pad always works for me and is faster too for smaller components.

0201 is hard enough but the last two after that were insane!

I hand soldered 0402 SMDs back around 2008. Quite fiddly. Now I'm aiming to Hand solder 01005 and even buying some 008004 caps to try out. With magnification this time. And solder paste. I can't wait till they arrive! :)

orange70383 nice trick if your tip is too big: when its cold, attach a wire offcut, like a resistor leg to the tip, and hold it in place by wrapping copper wire (single core) around it to bind it to the tip. It will transfer the heat to the tip of the wire, but won't stay on for long. Maybe 50 solder joints. Add some solder to the wrapping wire to conduct the heat better. A great way to get a super fine tip. But be careful when returning the iron into the holder, as if you bump the fine wire, you could bend/dislodge it. :)

Electronics just a hobby to me,i still sucks at THT soldering but i still learn about it also i like watching SMD soldering video,its sastifying me for no reason btw very relaxing and well made video Edit:i only have 30Watt soldering iron for start but i probaly will get a soldering station,Multi-meter and some basic eletronic tools in the future....i like fixing some broken toys of cheap techs like USB Cable or homemade One cuz i have too many Cooper wires (3cm thickness) lying around that i salvage from cheap USB cables..... I also ever buy a Charging module on Ebay for play around with Many people see me wrong because i'm 16-year girl that supposed to play around with Instagram or Snapchat but i mostly like teardown things and find what things i can salvage to reuse,like an LED and Resistors (i can read its colors) and some more wires and speakers....... My life is full of electronics after 1 year since i tought it as a hobby....i always teardown things and desoldering them....i dont have solder..cuz they are too expansive even for cheap one... 1CM costs me around 0.5USD lol,and i just desoldering them and tie them together to make a circuit If you found a grammartial errors or bad word spelling dont try to fix them cuz i'm from Malaysia and i'm still studies Sorry for long comment,i subbed

Human society is a bit immature, obviously what one likes doesn't depend on his/her sex, yet there is this prejudice/assumption that it does.

I'm new to soldering. I like this video and the method you use to solder small components. I hope to study and practice this method. I think this is how you do it broken into steps: 1. Put flux on one pad using toothpick 2. Place component using tweezers (flux paste holds it in) 3. Add solder to the tip of iron 4. Add the iron tip solder to the flux side of component (tweezers to hold while soldering) 5. Turn board 6. Add flux to other side using toothpick 7. Add solder to the tip of iron 8. Add the iron tip solder to other side of component (tweezers to hold if needed) 9. Clean up flux with IPA 10. Touch up solder again if needed.

That was IMPRESSIVE! If you've never soldered before, let me state those SUPER tiny parts are a bitch to solder.

Someone get this man some solder paste!

Those practice PCB are easy, a ton of space, fresh pads. Do it on an old PCB with componets in proximity.

There aren't many kits out there that do 0201 smd practice kits execpt tindie. And once you get the smallest part on that is the end of the challenge. I think a 008004 smd practice kit would take hand soldering to the next level.You got rock steady hands bud. Nice work to.I use JBC nano station and i still struggle to keep my hands steady.

vargasmongo3435 Look for the ones from John Gammell. Much better than this guy, whose videos are well made, but his technique is bad - always using far too much solder, and going back and reworking joints over and over. Gammell shows it done right.

Amazing work, like many here 0201 is as far as ive delved, do you hand eye co-ordinate through the microscope camera screen or by direct sight ? Or loope goggles... 10X 0.7 zoom stereo is my comfort zone streched here, maybe at 10x4 , only used the higher mags for inspection before. the build houses are so good now with assembly I build all my first analogue protos in 0603 then shrink.

Decoupling capacitor in smartphones and smartwatches probably. They only make capacitors of that size, no resistors as far as i know.

Give it a few months and you will get resistors in 008004, but probably only 6VDC!! Haha haha. The price we pay for miniaturization! Until some clever biscuit/smart cookie invents/discovers a high voltage insulator at micron size. Might make a good cap dielectric too, hopefully!

I use this technique(flux >> component >> iron with solder on the tip >> touch it) in my work to solder prototypes, mostly 0805 and looks like out of the machine.

I pre-tin one pad for every component on the board (soldering iron and solder in my hands), apply flux to all the pads (flux syringe in my hand), then pick up the tweezers and iron again to start placing components and soldering them, and in the end, I pick up the solder wire again in my second hand to re-tin the tip to solder the second pad of every component. If I have to do more than a few components on a board this is the fastest way for me to work, as I don't have to constantly change the tools in my hand. However, I try to use more solder paste and stencils these days, just because it's even faster and easyer. But for single board prototypes, paying for the stencil and doing all the prepping and cleaning for paste application and reflow soldering is usually not worth it.

With this solder Tip you can solder sheet metal.

In the future they just print up the whole CPU. You do design module on computer, they will call it a PCB chip. Only way to connect to it is wirelessly.

I think one of the toughest things is keeping your hand steady while you hold the component. It is Interesting to to especially with the smallest two components that his hand is shaking but just before he solders the component his hand is perfectly still. How does he do that?

Resting his hand and pushing the component down stabilizes it. Keeping it "floating" above ground means more freedom to move and thereby harder to control.

Casually hand soldering 008004 like its through hole.

0805 is the smallest i usually want to deal with. 008004 is just obnoxious, can any pick&place even handle them?

@@the_eminent_Joshua_E_Hrouda I know Hotair is shit, the PCB heats up like mad and the solder just sits there for ages slowly cooking before it goes to a liquid state. Never mind if its that garbage lead free shit, that's even worse. It suprises me electronics can withstand the temperatures they have to put up with given some smart arse decided that lead free would be best.

good stuff, but why dont you presolder one of the pads when you go small in packages? seems that you struggled in the last two resistor packages when trying to get the first pad and solder to stick to the component. Having the pad presoldered and the flux assures that you get the component to stick as soon as the heat is applied on the first try.

Question: why not use solder paste (the one that self adhere to contacts under heat)? What are the pros and the cons of solder paste (vs solder wire)? Thank you in advance for a response, whoever will respond. 🙏

Manual application is very difficult on such small pads, though of course it is possible.

I have one dt860d DMM.In place of R9 and R10(value is 510k and 100 Obama respectetily) The problem is during soldering side tracks are missing therefore, and registers are not sticking/soldering both sides tracks. Small copper are not seen to where registers are to be soldered. Will you please give the solutions to go for and regularised .the connections.Pl.give yr valuable guidance. Thanks.

Did you measure the capacitance before and after installation to be sure your heat and solder joint quality were not impacting your component value? What temperature did you use? Did you have to reduce the temp for the smaller sized components?
