    let's pour one out for our homies over the past 25 years who have drastically improved the sound quality of live acts playing in tv studios.

    I think most of it has to do with playing backing tracks now. I’d rather hear it 100% live like this.

    This is a great vid of a truly miserable band at a truly miserable time, led by a truly miserable guy. It's sad too cause Conan loves rock music and is so excited to have them there on his little show at this time (they were the biggest band in the world, or recently had been). And he just gets this miserable interview w this wreckage of a band that's fired their drummer and ended a miserable long tour and knows a miserable impossible studio experience is about to start, and that's it all dying. D'arcy at least tries to cheer things up w Twizzlers. She was always such a trouper. Also they must have shot either just before the interview or just after it those couple of little insert shots that they'd use in a bit later where Max tries to sabotage them during this live performance. Considering the miserable awkward interview that must have been interesting to film. btw just to clarify, this is only talking about the interview. The performance is great.

    @Bill E. O'Nair Huh? No, not really. Sorry we don't all live in happy lying la la land. The Pumpkins after they fired Chamberlin were miserable. Watch this interview. Watch their MTV interviews aired during the subsequent VMAs. Watch the documentary from MTV called Beyond Melancholy or whatever. They were miserable.

    they just came off an 18 month tour and this was probably forced upon them by their corporate label overlords. but the gloominess is totally the vibe of the mellon collie album! their dry humor is funny though!

    I wish that he wouldn't have become so obsessed with songwriting and he would have focused on his real talent which is musical intuition, or just musical intelligence. That's where this guy's real talents are. Sure he wants to not write nice pretty songs but the thing is he's not very good at it. He's okay at it, but if you placed his Focus in the instrumental dimension of his musical ability that would generate interesting songs.

  • @kranmaster

    @kranmaster

    Жыл бұрын

    Yep. Instead, he's basically forsaken the unique talents he developed in all regards. Aside from choosing to try and perfect the 3:50 second radio format song, he's let his guitar playing go to shit over the last 20+ years and completely abandoned the unique vocal style that he developed.

  • @billyin4c514
    @billyin4c514 Жыл бұрын

    The fact that he never learned how to sing I think is an example of arrogance. Because there's certainly moments where Billy is singing and it's emotional, and raw and melodically beautiful, and then it's just broken up by struggling. Devote a lot of time to singing lessons and that would have added to his musical ability

  • @NoisetotheFuture

    @NoisetotheFuture

    100% disagree. His nasal, peeling paint off of the rafters, coupled with his soft breathy vocals is what hooked me during Siamese, Mellon Collie. It was only when he actually took vocal lessons and changed his singing style, around Zeitgeist that the band completely lost me. I love him, but he is really hard to listen to now. Rock what you're born with and be proud. "Arrogant" though? That's an unfair take.

  • @kranmaster

    @kranmaster

    @@NoisetotheFuture He started taking lessons prior to the recording sessions for Adore not Zeitgeist. The period from 1999-00 is the best and most powerful his vocals ever were, and it was because of the lessons. Listen to any performance from that period. He's in key and absolutely shreds it. His vocal teacher didn't change anything other than teaching him how to properly support his voice. The change in his "singing" style was a conscious decision. After breaking up the band he distanced himself from the entire Pumpkins persona he created. And he just chose to never go back to that way of singing and has developed a "new" voice. It had absolutely nothing to do with lessons.
