not quite, his tail has a hurtbox that extends at least half way down from the base, if not more. its especially easy to see on his ftilt, (if you wif it against a ness charging fsmash, he can potentially strike the hurtbox when its fully extended) so the actual disjoint is only about as long as nesses bat

Use mewtwo ‘s teleport to come down from juggle pressure he has little lag when he teleports and lands on a plat or stage. Really important thing armada didn’t mention. You can also use teleport to cross your opponent up and get away from characters trying to pressure you.
@Rynopb

@williammurphree6594

Did they decrease the lag from Smash 4? I was worried that you couldn’t platform cancel as well anymore, but I guess this seems like a good option.
@Rynopb
5 жыл бұрын
@@williammurphree6594 yes they decreased the lag IF you land on the ground with the tele. It has to be less than 10 frames of landing lag. I havent counted the frames. But it is fast. You dont need to platform cancel it. Just land on any part. You cant hover milimeters of the platform, you have to land on it when you teleport or else you get what feels like over half a second of lag. If teleport could go through people and projectiles in this game, Mewtwo would be broken. Note: if the opponent jumps, rolls, spot dodges you can go through him. You can also jump a little bit and teleport diagonal behind your opponent and you will go through him. But you have to jump. If not, you will teleport to his face and you will get punished hard. Teleporting to someone's face could be a good mixup.

Great guide man! Glad you're getting so into this game. Really liked the general useful tips you put alongside the character specific tips. Pretty happy I finally know what buffering means now.
Great video! glad to see I was on the right track with my boy Mewtwo. Also worth noting that you can jump to cancel shadow ball instead of shield so you can bait people in with it and hit them with an aerial move really easily.
Needed this, for some reason I’m having a hard time transitioning from smash 4 mewtwo to ultimate mewtwo even though not a lot is too different, so this will help a lot
Mewtwo's been my main since launch and I didn't know half this stuff man. Thanks! 🙏🏽
imo fair is also a good tool in neutral, bc it can lead into more fairs or uairs or dtilts if it hits, and its p safe if spaced
We've been waiting for this one for a fat minute.
Due to years of research I can conclude mewtwo is not in melee because melee isn't cannon

For someone who speaks English as a second language, Armada is so well spoken and insightful. He breaks down advanced concepts in a way that beginners can understand without dumbing it down too much for experienced players. Subbed and looking forward to the next guide!
About the nair : i've been able to connect the first hit of landing nair into up smash pretty consistently, and after an out of shield nair at mid percent you can try to follow-up with a run pivot cancel f tilt, pretty efficient
Lots of helpful info and tips here even 2 years later
In the juggle combos for neutral, you can extend them by doing up b down so he's on the floor and they're still falling, so you can reset the combo again!
A small combo I made at 0% is down tilt, up tilt, nair, shadow ball. Deals a pretty good 60%

Got into Mewtwo in a game of randoms, and now absolutely adore him! I'm thinking of maining him, or Chrom or Paulatena, I can't decide! This video helps a lot.
You can cancel your double jump back into charge shadow ball in neutral. Also his side b is great for mixing up your recovery. And nair has so much potential. Sometimes it evens somehow bumps them up into an upsmash at low percents. His stomp is great as well and can lead into many makeshift combos or upsmash
Been waiting for this, thank you.

Great starter guide! Thanks Adam!
"According to me" You know you're good when this is a valid qualifier
Sweet video, thanks! I would like to know if you can utilize his airdodge/up-B in creative ways! Maybe edge cancels? Also I bet there are techniques that involve his floaty double jump?
No Marths were hurt in the making of this Video. Lol very helpful video, loved learning more about Mewtwo in Ultimate and can’t wait to practice the spacing
Awesome video, great insights. Been maining mewtwo in this game and the only thing I haven't been able to find, even in this video are reliable kill setups. Edge guarding aside, he mostly seems to rely on hard reads with stronger moves for a kill, and often fishing for those is quite risky. What sort of onstage kill options do you prefer to go for?
This is a great Mewtwo guide for sure!
Appreciate you taking the time to share.
Awesome content!! I main peach but mewtwo feels so fun to play in this game his kit just works in almost every situation well.
If you Nair keeping the opponent slightly more right you can get a free disable when you land. Its usually how I set up a full charge shadow ball.
I feel like marth could’ve directional airdodged to ledge there with your backthrow setups on battlefield
I find that doing a wall hop to back air/ up air helps out the first couple of times that someone tries to edge guard against you. The hitbox is really forgiving but its risky cause once they learn this then they can easily hit your tail mid move.
A quick tip: if you are charging shadow ball in the air, input jump and any move you want just before you land. Mewtwo will stop charging when it hits the ground and do the move you inputted. (:
Thank you Armada this video definitely upgraded my game
Love the guide! What are your thoughts on Peach and do you plan doing a guide for her?

Ah hey, if it isn't the creator of some of my favorite songs to game to! Liking the Mewtwo buffs?
In Smash 4, Mewtwo's nair was super good because if you timed the fast fall, it would drag them down and flip them backwards, essentially putting you behind the opponent which is always a good thing. I'm not sure if this still works cause I haven't labbed anything, but if it does then that's pretty good for Mewtwo.
The edgeguarding tips can definately be applied to my other characters as their bairs are good as well. Useful video :D
That present participle
Thank you so much for this! You got yourself a new sub! 😊
Very small little thing I found but at the edge you can down tilt dair and it can kill pretty consistently from 60-80 but you need to buffer it right
Thank you so much for making this video
Mewtwo is freaking awesome. I gave him a shot yesterday and loved his style. I like his 2nd jump how it kinda of stalls and you can pull out another fair after doing a buffered short hop fair at the some short hop distance while getting a full hop to pull away or create distance. I have been maining Ridley all for my love of Metroid but I’m starting to think Mewtwo wouldn’t be a bad grab. Still gonna get boss like with Ridley though
"Both smaller shadow balls and bigger shadow balls can be good." Armada, December 2018
Something I have been messing with is down throw into nair or fair. Decent at low % and you can condition your opponent into dodging one of them so you can get the other.
Short and sweet man, thanks
When the shadow ball hit the shield and It actually did shield damage somehow gave me nostalgia
I have not played a smash game before ultimate, and I main Mewtwo. This really helped!
Is there any reason why you don't mention comboing out of nair with a jab combo? I personally find that to be the best option at low percentages, because Mewtwo's jab attacks have a very deceptively long range and are hard to escape, meaning you can usually hold the jab combo for up to maybe a second and a half before ending it with the launching hit. A fully optimized nair, followed by a jab combo, followed by a dash attack is somewhere in the 60-80% damage range, which instantly puts midweights like Marth in range for some of Mewtwo's kill confirms. Get two off, and you're in range for all of Mewtwo's kill confirms, especially up-throw. It's a combo that I personally find very useful, although it is easily punished if you don't pay attention and try to do it when the opponent doesn't end nair in front of you, so you do want to be careful. That leads to another tip I have for Mewtwo players that isn't mentioned here. Go into practice mode, and try hitting the CPU with nair from various angles and speeds and see how they launch. Try to get to the point where you can predict where your opponent will go when nair ends. If you can get a feel for what direction they will go when you end your nair, you can use that knowledge to your advantage. It may appear inconsistent at first, but you can figure it out to where you will be able to consistently get the opponent to launch in front of you after the final hit, which you obviously want to do as much as possible so that you can combo out of it. You may also wish to figure out how to get the opponent to launch behind you in a controlled manner while offstage, because sometimes, when edgeguarding an opponent, you want to do that to score the gimp, as nair is infamous for being able to drag opponents away from the stage after they use their double jump so that they can't recover. This can kill at early percentages and is very entertaining, if I do say so. The last thing I would encourage is to use your down-throw and up-throw. It's a little underplayed in this video, but you can essentially consider it an alternative to down-tilt for starting combos as the opponent will end in about the same spot in the neutral game, and it can even consistently combo at much higher percentages than down-tilt can. The key when you want to start this combo is to shoot a small Shadow Ball. Against most opponents, this baits a shield, so you can dash in and get a throw. If they don't shield, they're stunned by the attack and you can get your throw. Just be careful not to use this too much as your opponent will likely catch on to your tactics. And then obviously Mewtwo's up-throw, as stated in the game hints, is the best in the game, and you should abuse it. It is a kill confirm for all but the heaviest opponents at 130%, so do make use of it at high damage.

Awesome breakdown on mewtwo i just started using this character..
Has anyone ever tried Confusion + Up Smash? It's very satisfying to pull off, though I recommend giving a bit of a dash right before the Up Smash, to get a better chance at a hit.
This helped a lot. Good stuff
I’ve been playing mewtwo for a while now and 70% of online shield full charged shadow ball and if they don’t react fast enough then you can dash attack to fair or nair to multiple follow ups Just a helpful tip to my mewtwo mains :)
I like this concept ! Hope you will do a dozen characters
If you fast fall and get Second hit nair it true combos into upsmash at any percent. Dont know if it is dependent on DI or not though

Can you buffer with the C-stick? or only when you aerial with controlstick+y and a?
@HopperDragon

You can, but it acts jank bc c-stick only inputs one frame of direction, and doesn't hold it when you hold the stick, it only holds the attack input
I like the tips he talked about, but the video could had used more clips of what he was talking about. He just used the same back throw edge guard clip on loop like 50 times. These kind of videos are cool but I would recommend getting more clips of combo examples to use!
Yes thank you so much Adam!

it goes through shields and has significantly longer range than M2's grab, so if you've got a defensive opponent you can occasionally throw it out to surprise them. It's got a lot of start-up and lag if it misses though, so it's not good enough to use consistently for anything other than reflecting.
@darthdistortion1934

At 140% it guarantees a f-air, you may as well also use it in those situations if you're having trouble against an opponent's defense
They have buffed mewtwo, currently trying to pick him up
Mewtwo’s down throw combos into a ton of things and is at times better than forward throw cos of the huge knock back and power f-air provides if used in a combo with down throw

Downthrow doesn't true combo into fair
@Rhaemos
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no true combo, unfortunately. I always go for it though, any idea what could work nicely? Nair doesn't seem to combo either, it's sometimes possible to surprise your opponent with a bair if they go in the opposite direction but that's quite situational. Anyone got tips on that?
1) If you hit with only one hit of mewtwo's nair, you can pop the opponent straight upwards combo'ing into uptilt or upsmash at any percent and if you hit ~2 hits of the nair it combo's into dtilt and can lead into dsmash at any percent if the opponent doesn't expect it 2) Mewtwo forward throw does more damage in general than the rest of his throws, so it's good for racking up damage (does 16.3% while up throw does 15.1%, down throw does 11.3% and back throw does 12.6%(With fresh staling) 3) Raw uptilt into upsmash is true from 0%-25% (kinda useless i guess but \_(シ)_/ it does ~25(harder to hit/space correctly the higher the percent)) 4) Uptilt into Uptilt combo's from 0%-~25% 5) Hitting only the last hit of Nair can combo into dtilt unitl ~20%, ftilt until ~50% and dash attack untill ~100% *Will add more as I find stuff
Any opinions on Mewtwo's down throw? I feel like it's a decent combo starter at early percents especially in the middle of the stage
@benhanson4199
5 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, but I don't think it leads to any true combos, so it's a pretty unfavourable mixup as there's too many ways for your opponent to get out.

I saw a video where someone read an air dodge aiming towards the centre of the stage after he used d-throw and he followed it with up smash, which the opponent air dodged into. It's situational and might need conditioning, but if you see the habit, take it
for mewtwo, would it be better if you oriented the c-stick to tilt attack instead of smash attack?
@boyapollo808

Definitely tilt
@arepic3258
5 жыл бұрын
Tilt stick is just better in general tbh
Falling up air on shield is actually pretty safe and is a combo starter at low mid percentage. I've found plenty of success with it.
So I've played melee and it was my favorite game as a kid but now I'm on the pro controller trying to play this game. All advice in every video I've seen seems to suggest using a GameCube controller. Do I need one? Why? How do I make these combos if I choose not to have one?
when to use his side and down specials and do they have good combos?
"Mewtwo has one of the best edge gaurds in the game.... according to me"
Hey i was just wondering im trying to get better at smash! But i buffer aerials all the time. Is that something i should stop?
anyone else having issue with teleport while "properly" targeting the ledge the character desides it is a good idea to go below the stage even when holding the stick slightly up forward? idk why it happens but it is kind of annoying.
