Falcon is the easiest character to use (arguable, but at least 2nd easiest behind Kirby) and Falcon is one of the easiest characters to combo because of his weight. So it's not surprising the 64-familiar judges weren't impressed enough for a 10

I think 3 of those judges were wrong to give ssb64kysk only a 9 on his first combo. First attempt, fast pace, combo did not reset to 1, and FALCON punch. The commentators were right to criticize those 3 judges for not giving kysk a 10. If that was Prince he would have gotten all 11s. 2020/2021 Edit: The commentators even call out about judges’ bias for Prince and even said he is more likely to get 10s since its Prince. Furthermore, Prince got 7s and 8s for not completing combos.

Again this year, judges scored unfinished combos far too leniently. They need to be harsher. I love Prince as much as the next guy but the fact an unfinished combo can score an 8/10 is just stupid. I'd even go so far as to suggest that a score cap on unfinished combos could be an interesting idea. For example, if you don't finish your combo then judges can't score you higher than a 6. This years tournament was definitely a bit flat compared to others simply because so many people entered unfinished combos. Arnold Zhang's suggestion of giving the later rounds more time I think is a good idea as well.

Prince's combos are so far the craziest things ever seen. Even when failing he shows glitches and sometimes aggressive combos that make a lot of people pop off. As far as I love the other entries, they don't have *that* crazy element in it. It's seen and seen again, so there's no surprise they give Prince's tries high scores even when unfinished. I feel like the only reason why KYSK went further this year was because he first tried the combos. They were fun to watch, but again, no crazy elements in it. This year combo contest was meh in my opinion. Everyone's sad that Prince didn't succeed to make the combos out

I kinda wish they could prepare a (possibly tool assisted) demo of what all the combos were supposed to look like after the contest is over, or compile all of the completed combo videos from the competitors' social media pages in post production and incorporate it into the final video

KYSK showed a unique return to the fundamentals that used to define the combo contest. We've become so absorbed into increasingly complex and nearly unviable combos that every other competitor came in with something that just couldnt be replicated on stage. They expected that someone at least would be able to finish their overcomplicated combo and set the bar too high for them to win if they went for a simpler combo. The meta has shifted, you need consistent combos.

Each judge needs a specific thing they grade so these combos can be graded fairly. That way there’s no biased opinions on a player, but instead, their combo. Style/Creativity 1-10, keeping the count of a combo/number of hits 1-10, difficulty/items/setup 1-10, attempts until made 1-10, and lastly, maybe hype/excitement/pop off of crowd or something like that 1-10. This would definitely help when someone either doesn’t get close to finishing their combo, gets almost all the way through their combo, or completes it in its entirety. You might get a good grade on creativity, even though you didn’t complete it. Maybe you completed it and dropped the combo. In my opinion, there should be one person grading each of those aspects. Hopefully they get to that point some day soon. Maybe this year in 2020?

This year felt more like a popularity contest than previous events in my opinion. I mean the two favorites got extra time, and even got a 10 from one of the judges with a combo drop. At one point the commentators said they wanted the other two contestants to bomb so prince could stay in lol. Joking or not, it really made it feel overall less professional and less technical.

I get so much anxiety but cant stop watching for when they pull it off.

Theres: Charizard, Blastoise, Beedrill, Clefairy (which is even more random), Meowth, Onix, Hitmonlee, Koffing, Chansey, Goldeen (which actually does nothing), Starmie, Snorlax and Mew which also does nothing.

@@Steleaf Maybe for a youtube combo, but in a competition would be too risky IMO, Like as a first combo couple tries then go to a backup combo, but I feel like thats also risky

I jumped from my chair whatching this combo contest, those guys are artists

watching boom go from no emotion... to smirk. to full smile. to nodding his head like that was fire.... my favorite thing lmfao. all of the judges honestly made it so much more fun to watch.. watching their reactions is great. but boom is so like.. impress me peasant lol. so watching him going from where is this going.. to I see what your doing.. to didn't see that coming. to OMFG.. is awesome haha. but s/o to everyone who participated in the contest. always awesome to watch.
