Small vs Midsize vs Large Scale Business from Amazon's perspective. Date: 3-4-2020
2 Businesses are good. Small or Large.
The Mid scale business is always painful. In small business you are the all-in-one. Dadi Amma doing Customer support, Dada Abu doing accounts, Children doing Pick, Pack, ship. The whole Kunba work together and save money just the way they run 711 in America. In large scale business you can hire accountants, lawyers, top brains becuase you have a lot of cash in hand.
On the other hand Mid scale business struggles a lot because in any mid scale business you don't have ample of cash and now you are hiring a lot of employees (Mostly Rajesh) because Rajesh is low cost but comes with lower intellect at the same time, you are trying to expand your business, you have hundreds and thousands of SKUs/listings in your account, you struggle to hire a lawyer if you get a lawsuit and you struggle to grow becuase you don't have a lot of cash but you need cash to grow the business and buy more inventory. You don't have efficient tracking system since you don't know how much of your inventory is just wasted sitting in the warehouse.
So which business is better than? Small, Medium or Large? And in online business how do we define them? Small is doing $50k per month in sales. Medium usually does $400k-500k a month and large usually does $1M to $2M+ on average each month.
So what is the solution then? Shall we not grow and become big? Absolutely you should grow and become big but first understand the problems you face in each scale and figure out solution. Imagine having 3000 SKUs/listings and Million dollar inventory sitting in your warehouse and imaging 12 Rajesh working for you and each one with salary Rs25k per month. Do you think you have an auto pilot business? You only living in dreams. You think having 12 Rajesh make your business an auto pilot business but the fact is, no this is not an auto pilot business. Auto pilot business means, someone is able to take decisions on your behalf. Rajesh mental intellect does not allow him to take decisions. He rely on you. He can just report to you only and his job is to say "sir sir" all the time. That is the best he can do. You end up taking decisions, you end up investigating fires in your business. You can't just be lying around on beach 30 days a month. Not possible. Because when you come back to business, you have 3000 SKUs to deal with. You now go through hundreds and hundreds of SKUs and you pick one SKU and ask Rajesh why is this inventory dead and not moving? Now Rajesh will come in action and do research and will tell you, there are many more me too sellers on this list, that's why we not moving. Now you make a decision and you tell him "liquidate this inventory now, it is costing us a lot of storage" Now Rajesh will comply and get it done. This is the best Rajesh can do. Rajesh cannot evaluate and take decisions on your behalf. If he can then he won't be a 25k employee but probably 100k and if he was 100k employee, you probably won't be able to hire him. You are back to Chicken and Egg loop now.
So what is the solution then? Well the solution is. Do not sell 3000 SKUs. Just sell 20, 30, 40 or 50 SKUs that you can manage personally on your own. Do not hire too many Rajesh. Do not do a business where growth comes at the cost of more, more more and more SKUS, more, more, more and more Rajesh. This business will never grow. Forget about your dream of having a mid scale or large scale business. You want a mid-scale and large scale business, go for automation. More automation comes with less decision making. 5 products PL FBA means 5 decisions. 3000 listings means, 3000 decisions. You really think Rajesh will make you a Millionaire? Go and try then. Seek me out later once you fail miserably.

sir in many cases Rajesh's are not allowed to make decision as we dont want to give authroity to anyone here in pak. Sethia culture mein tu 1000 ka voucher bhi seth approve krta hai.

Any low intellect robotic employee we call him Rajesh. It's a nick name I choose becuase we find a lot of Rajesh replying our cases when we talk to Amazon. And they follow copy paste response. They don't use brain or intellect to respond to you.

Good suggestions but your business line seems to me very risky business. Arfeen khan same like you claiming million dollar but the issue probability of success. A rich man can not attract by earning as compared to fear of loss. So how financial security is ensured after investing large amount....
