Small Scale Queen Rearing Series | Episode 1: Cloake Board Queen Cell Starter

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

#beekeeping #bees #honeybee
The Cloake board method of queen rearing is popular with newer beekeepers because it allows the beekeeper to raise queens with a minimum of equipment and very little disturbance to the hive. The cloak board queen rearing method is an great way of making many quality queen cells. It uses a queenless box technique as a starter and a queenright as a finisher. The great part about this is that it’s all done from the same hive and no queenless starter hive is required. No queens are taken way from the hive and minimum brood movement is required.

Very good explanation of the process. Your camera helper does an excellent job of filming and really helps you follow along. Thanks for the video. I will look forward to the non-grafting queen rearing series which I'm going to try to do this year. Maybe a demerie split to get queen cells from the top box. Have a great day.

Thank you very much Russell 😊 My wife is helping me with the filming and she is the best 💪 Beekeeping is very expensive and learning how to split hives and raise your own queens is a way to go. Plus your own queens will probably be better then if you buy them from large scale commercial producers. 😉

Great video bro, I am definitely showing this to my work mates to show almost exactly how it really is done. because they still don't understand need for strong cell builders, thanks for marking the frames, i still don't totally understand the rotation of bottom box I prefer just to close bottom entrance, after all its the nurse bees you want in the top not the foragers.

Thank you very much. Yes you are right you can simply close the bottom entrance if you have Cloake Board

Thanks @@silverlakeadventure can I ask you another query, I have been putting the frame i will graft from in the top of the closed cloake board hive the day before I graft to ensure the larvae in use are well feed with royal jelly, can you see any issue with that because I would love to show my "boss" this video and if positive this response to help solve a disagreement.

I always use another very strong hive that shows calm behavior, good overwintering and honey production for grafting and graft directly from the hive but I don't see any problem with placing grafting frame in the top box. Only thing I would leave the board open to draw as many nurse bees from the bottom box as possible and then close after the graft.
