Artificial leaves and restricting airflow with fencing is a good way to raise your electricity bill, shorten the life of your unit, and potentially damage your condenser. Function is more important than aesthetics. If you want to hide it, do it with a wire mesh and ivy at minimum 8 inches away from the fins. I know there are other videos on youtube that do similar projects to conceal these condensers, but they have a job to do and by covering them you're either impeding the intake or exhaust and asking for trouble.

Hi Jill, I was wondering how you placed the artificial grass. Did you use any type of adhesive? Does the grass move around ? If it rains, does it affect anything ? Thanks !!

Hi, Sophia! I didn’t use any adhesive for it. It doesn’t move around unless you actually do move it around. It’s perfect for flat ground! If it rains, it becomes really wet, but it has drain holes. Just wait for a day or two to fully dry it. Hope this helps!

Hi. I live in Japan too and as much as your balcony looks nice, it will not survive the rainy season nor the typhoon season. Be there, done it....my balcony, which is very spacious, is back to being a waste of space after last year's monster typhoon hit in October. Balcony makeover rip

You’re right! Rainy season totally ruined it 🥺 For now, I kept everything inside and removed the artificial grass. Will be refurnishing it after the rainy season 😃

Does your plant survive through the heat of the AC compressor? Mine are all dead! 😭 they can’t handle the heaty blow from the compressor

Somewhere in the central of Yokohama

This is close to a fire hazard if you do decide to run your AC unit. The AC needs to dissipate heat and it's not a good idea to cover it or otherwise block it.
