This IC has been used in large number of DVD players, it is very easy to control and support until 7 grids with 12 segments.

If you have some time available, I would appreciate if you could give me some hints about what would I need to change , in order to adapt your code for a 7 segment, 5 digit display (no symbols, format is 88:88:8)? The display (salvaged from an old dvd player) only shows random stuff, with the code as is. the driver is a TM1628. After long hours messing with the code, I am not making any progress.

Thanks Sammy K, Next days I will be work in France, after return I will try fix a lite of time to look to your display. Please send PIC's of display, board and driver. I don't know if you already look around my channel because I have some videos with 5 digits and code.
There is English datasheet available for TM1628 which i think is the same IC

It is true, there are several IC's where the initial letters change, such as: HT1628, LK1628, CS1628, SC1628 ... Some datasheets are more complete than others, although sometimes with errors!

¡Vivir Jaime Torres! ¡Sí! Se puede utilizar como display para presentar valores de un voltímetro. La pantalla es un dispositivo dependiente (no tiene inteligencia asociada), por lo que se presentará todo lo que se le envíe, así que solo haga el código para que el Arduino lea el "Voltaje" y luego envíelo a la pantalla. Hay varios proyectos Volmeter basados en Arduino.
Is possible to use PIC microcontrolers to do this ?

Yes! You can do it with a PIC, but I don't know the PIC to help you. But only is necessary control 3 pins. Strobe(STB), CLK(Clock) and DI (Data In) , and of course a GND reference. That's all! If you know how program the PIC you can control it!
