Indeed, after the next peace conference (like one of Vienna 1815 or Paris 1946) Slovakia would eventually fall under Viktor Orbán anyway. Russians will not forget his stance. And he has mighty allies within Slovakia: look at the activities of PM Lájos Odór and Police president István Harman. The result is the total downfall and decay of the state.

This is, in my opinion, why Putin moved when he did. The old soviet generation is dying off and they are the ones bulking out the figures supporting Russia. In another 10 years the numbers would shift dramatically. Sad to say, the elderly will not change their opinions no matter how much truth you give them. They remember the 'good old times' when the state always provided the basics while 'capitalism' is often a lot more stressful.

I have been to a few former Eastern Bloc countries and indeed, it is the older generation that reminisce good times under Soviet control...but...as they said, murders were very rare, no gangs, no drugs, you could go around safely at nights without fear of being attacked, there may not have been many goods but everyone had a job. Granted, you had to watch what you were saying but that is becoming a problem in capitalist states now! What good is having luxurious crap like a mobile phone if you are afraid of saying what you want to, they track you wherever you go and you are afraid of going anywhere at nights for fear of being attacked or during the day as well in London? In the UK murders are up,serious crimes are up, freedom of speech has been curbed, drugs and drug deaths are up, shops are being looted en masse. In Scotland we are heading into a socialist state with the worst parts of both a socialist state and a capitalist state. But hey...everybody has their luxuries that they don't need so that's ok eh? I would gladly give up my mobile phone and technology and go back to the 80's so I could speak freely about anything and everything without the fear of the police coming to my home to arrest me for a conversation I had under my own roof and the streets were safe with police plodding them!

I heard the probably new President say he thinks US and EU arming Ukraine is wrong, as if we're using them as a proxy not defending them - why would Slovakia want to stay in either NATO or the EU then? And why would we in the US want to pay to defend them? Makes no sense seems too many there want to rejoin Russia for some reason. If Trump wins here they'll get their wish. Sad to see Putin winning but at least Trump doesn't come out and say it Americans wouldn't want to be closer to Russia now. Very very sad to me.

it's just stupid to believe that Putin's grip on other countries is ideological or political... those who ''support'' him are just corrupted, bought ''politicians'' and just support their pockets... Western, Eastern makes no difference, corrupted politicians are everywhere... we need to stay focus and learn our lessons from all this mess... the world as we knew him is changing in front of our eyes... ''grey zones'' are fading and ''black and white'' is visible again... only in sides we didn't expect...

The propaganda is very elaborate (you Westerners may not even be able to see it in full). For instance: putinist propaganda often reaches our countries from Serbia and through Serbs. The disinformation scene in the Czech Republic has to a large extent been taken care of by the Serbs, which makes it more digestible and acceptable for the Czechs than if it came directly from the Russians. While the RT has been banned, RT Balkans (a channel established in Serbia) reaches us easily.
