They really don't need inorganic fertilizer. With mulching in between planting, the crops will have better soil year over year to grow in.

The inability to get inorganic fertiliser is not a constraint. It's actually a major benefit as chemical fertiliser does not benefit soil microbes or address long-term fertility. On the other hand, organic compost is exactly what is required by soil life to improve soil structure and beneficial microorganisms.

It look like the Navajo reservation. I should try this here.

You have more than enough rainfall there. It's all about reducing the runoff and soil deteriation. After a while the water starts penetrating the ground instead of running off, providing more growth, providing more roots, providing more water penetration.

I was thinking you could put a whole guild in one of those, deep rooted nutrient accumulators, nitrogen fixer and a fruit tree.

@@mikepowell8611 Prolly start with the just the nitrogen fixer and a dynamic accumulator in each then add other things as the soil is enriched.

is the direction of the Demi Lunes based on any idea / principle ?? THe outcome is super !!

What percentage of the surface area is inside the demi lunes? Is this reduced in even drier areas?
