I found that reaching up overhead will cause the ribs to hook so will raking, or anything that causes a drawing up of your abdomen. A half crunch is also very aggravating.

Those doctors would have believed me even less because I have a history of abdominal and digestive issues, hernias and the like so they may have passed it off as that and I would have believed them. But looking back now it's a pleasant surprise that my regular doctor, last time I was there, felt around when I told him I had tenderness in the ribs themselves, and he examined and brought up the possibility of SRS himself. I hadn't even heard of it.

So thankful for you documenting your journey.. I also think I've had this since my childhood. My ribs used to catch on my hip bone area when I'd bend over.. I was always traumatized doing physical activity -- so much pain. I also have lyme disease, collagen deficiency (EDS/Marfan), hypermobility, scoliosis, spina bifida occulta, hemophilia C, and potentially hypophosphatasia (seeing specialists). I rarely have not been in pain. I had an endoscopy and woke up and the painkillers had me thinking I was in heaven and I was calling everyone angels XD.. Then they wore off :P I healed my metabolic and skin disease, most joint subluxations through nutrition and stopping physical work.. yet still have cartilage issues and severe TMJ. I get intercostal neuralgia and have had it over 10 years and doctors think I have a mild muscle strain because I'm desensitized and can't describe how much pain I feel everywhere, during each activity. I have had many falls that likely caused trauma to my rib cage and back.. and a car accident. I also have to sit in strange positions and am missing muscle groups from not being able to use my arms & pelvis like most people do.. I get paralysis in my legs/arms and weakness. Popping, clicking, catching feelings and noises in my sternum and back. My most severe pain is in my right thoracic spine area but radiates around both sides of my rib cage if I lift or use my arms and hands. Base of my skull, neck is always in pain. It hurts to eat large meals, I get nauseated from standing or sitting too long, being hunched over is the only way I can breathe during 10/10 pain. Shoulder pain is horrible. I have a fixed first rib as well, and extra cervical ribs. My diaphragm feels like it's paralyzed at times or cannot expand on it's own and my lungs don't fill all the way. Physical therapy was torturous.. Made my muscle pain severe. Did not recover from even mild sessions. Doing this in front of people was very emotional as well. Like being tortured in front of other people. It's hard to even talk to doctors because they want to write down only one problem and address one problem. They often tell me I have pain because of acid reflux or constipation which are not issues I have and I know that. Muscle relaxers feel as if they have no effect and leave me feeling quite ill. The pain is stabbing, aching, searing.. Feel like I've been kicked in the chest and back.. Sharp pain sometimes breathing in or having side stitches. Chiropractor helps me to feel better for 1-3 days.. I need to go weekly but it's too expensive. I have been going two years and not helping long term pain, but probably helping alignment a bit. My sternum and ribs always hurt to get readjusted. Acupuncture helped my neck pain in the past but also can trigger migraine with aura ... So would miss appointments too often as I cant see to drive. I really feel the same.. That we have no other option but to stay positive and keep our faith.. Our bodies are highly adaptable and our minds are resilient... Even though we are cursed with this pain... We get to transmute it and become stronger and help others. Our DNA is intelligent, that is why any of us have even made it this far.. Sometimes mechanical things need servicing and proper fuel.. We should keep faith that we can recover after this ..and from the experience we will hopefully produce something of value to the rest of the world / consciousness... All while becoming stronger, happier and more authentic versions of ourselves! Thank you for validating so many of us with your story!

The intercostal nerves that are inflamed branches off to various places...your abdominal muscles are one of those so it makes perfect sense that your abdomen/ stomach hurts. Thanks for all your info. I am not positive that my intercostal neuralgia is from slipping rib, but its still so painful, I understand. Ive only dealt with it for 5 years...very sorry for your 15 year ordeal.

I haven't been diagnosed yet, but I am hoping that I will find a Dr, that will take me seriously. I have had pain as far back as I can remember, I was probably 10. I am now 57, and have many health issues. I believe, I have put this aside, because the pain comes and goes, until recently. I hear popping, I get the wind knocked out of me. Is there a possibility, that this is what's going on. I am dealing with so much right now, that I honestly put this on the back burner. Have you ever met anyone, that has waited so long to get diagnosed? I am praying for your complete recovery. I know I've been negligent on my own behalf, but I am dealing with quite a few chronic conditions.

Once you know it's called slipping rib syndrome you can find somebody but it's not going to be easy. It depends where you live. I'm in the states and in my particular State there is one doctor that treats this condition. And even at that they're learning as they go

hi - i'm so sorry for not getting back to you earlier. i haven't been very active on YT for quite some time now. it definitely sounds like it could be SRS. have you gotten any answers in this time period? i'm also dealing with multiple chronic condtions and i must say: it's even more important for us to get the right answers. when there's so much cronic pain and worrying, we want to fix whatever is fixable. i've spoken with many people with SRS by now and unfortunately it's vrey common to go years and years with this pain without getting diagnosed, so it's not unlikely. how are you doing now?

  • @ljungkvistt

it's indeed a very negligenced diagnosis, and too many people walk aurond in missery and pain becuase of the lack of knowledge around SRS. for specific information one can ask in the facebook group. we're spreading the message here at least, hopefully that helps to some extent :-)

I've watched a few of your videos now and have really enjoyed them because some (not all) of your symptoms sound very familiar with me. I have a history of digestive issues and abdominal surgery so when I've had abdominal pain I've usually chalked it up to that. But at a doctor visit a few months ago I asked the doctor to feel my rib, and he actually did bring up the possibility of SRS. How was yours finally diagnosed? It's not as obvious on me as it is on your body but well, I do have a bit more padding around the stomach if you take my meaning. That nerve block thing you talked about is also something he mentioned. I have another appointment next week because I've had some relief from stomach pain from medications and probiotics but I do have some pains that can't really (I think) just be explained by gas, or IBS, or other problems I've had that may mask SRS. P.S. Did you do that drawing yourself? It looks great you have some skill as an artist.

hi! i'm sorry for my late response, i haven't been very active here lately. how has it been going for you, are you any closer to finding out if it could be SRS? you can see the full story by watching my first SRS video (pre-op) but put simply i brounght papers to the ER about SRS when i had been coming in time and time again with severe pain..they read it, did the hooking maneuver and then i was diagnosed. they also did a dynamic ultrasound. the radiologist had never done that kind of ultrasound before, so we didn't really get any results there, but he could physically feel them moving around!

@7:41 With rib pain, or even pain anywhere in any of the four quadrants of the torso, there is something called "referred pain", where the actual cause of the pain can be in one small area, but it is very difficult to pinpoint because the pain can seem to radiate into many areas all around, or it might feel like you are being stabbed in your organs and even make it painful to breathe. This is due to the way the nerves are distributed throughout the torso and the vital organs. There are certain Yoga techniques that can help in many cases, because it helps to strengthen and stretch the intercostal muscles, (muscles between the ribs). ...You are so young and have yet to really experience all that life has to offer yet. I hope you are able to find a solution that is permanent so that you can move on and have a beautiful life.

i'm by no means a professional in any way, but i would probably postpone any thoughts of surgery if it isn't bad. even though it would probably be nice to get rid of the irritation, there are always risks that comes with surgery. but if it hurts a lot for a long time, it would probably be smart to have it done. i'm quite sure my nerve pain is more permanent than it should have been, if i had gotten surgery as a child
