Slipknot Live Show Evolution (1995 - 2020)

Музыка

IN MEMORY OF JOEY JORDISON & PAUL GRAY
Slipknot is a band that has evolved far beyond just their look and music, also their live performance. The show is the actual band, not too much of pirotectnics or fireworks, just them doing all kinds of s*it.
The best live band in the world

I grew up in Des Moines (still live there) and can recall the rise of Slipknot in the late '90s here. Those dudes were just a couple years older than me but it seemed like everyone knew at least one person in the band (the early lineup changed over a lot). I saw several of their early shows at local festivals in '97 and '98 and it's hard to put into words just how insane they were. If you would have told me back then at those shows that they'd still be kicking ass in 2021, I wouldn't have believed you. They have never forgotten where they came from. Not a lot of music acts made it big out of Iowa, but Slipknot is will always be loved here.

I'm with ya there Tom!!! At that time the local scene was Iowa City sludge metal, remember Scrid and the Horde's viking metal? Then there was Bonedrag, my old metal band I drummed for out of S.E. Iowa's Ft. Madison. Plus many many other great bands we all traded shows and made the crowds go nuts and the bars run out of whiskey and we got paid shit lol. But just like Vicegrip Throttle (Slipknot's original singers Anders) band, Inhale the Elypsis, and Crucifal all out of Desoines and the rest of us...... we left ours marks on the same stages as Slipknot did and miss those days

@@cyberghost_01 of course they went mainstream, then regional, and now International filling arenas. And still hold to their roots as the play the old 5 Seasons in Cedar Rapids which has changed names but Corey refuses to call it anything but the 5 seasons. Those are solid roots from a mainstream band of Iowa corn fed brothers!!!

The Blister Exists is still one of the most memorable songs from any show I've been to. Imagine this... My first time hearing it live, Cleveland, Ohio at Tower City Amphitheater. I'm on approximately a quarter oz of shrooms and geeking (the "test" during Spit it Out was terrifying and I damn near got trampled to death when I forgot to jump on que lol) but I digress... That fucking drum break hits, I'm far back so they look small to me. Clown is running back and forth beating his marching band snare like it owes him money, being a fucking mad man like Clown does. All I could think was that I was watching the puppets from the Puppet Master movies on stage rocking out! It was one of my favorite memories to this day!

I remember playing with my old metal band "Bonedrag," on the same stages as our fellow Iowa brothers "Slipknot" did! Many shows with "Visegrip Throttle," who's frontman was Slipknots original singer. Thank you for showing the world "Iowa's loudest screamer," Anders!!! as he was labeled!!!! And a cool dude to hang and party with!!!! He put in the work and time and talent that did leave an inprint on the band, while staying friends with his old band mates and never said a bad thing about them. Playing the same stages on my old pearls with the same sound guys and the small venues ridiculously loud and raw power that mic'd Joey's kit at Gabe's Oasis, The House of Bricks, and the Bunker in KCMO, was crazy badass. Just hearing the crowds scream and slamming in the pits like they did just for Slipknot ,was a feeling that you just can't describe. Awesome video!!! Look, I will not say stupid shit like they're not the same anymore, Corey's voice got worse after 2002 or whatever. But you can't deny the spectacular energy in the 1999-2002 era. For me personally the 1999 concerts have the most special vibe and is their brightest time before they got big and too serious

I agree. I lost interest in the band after the Iowa album. Growing up in Iowa and being 17 in 1999 I saw my fill of them. Fortunate as fuck. That energy in a small shit hole club in Des Moines was unreal. How the place didnt shake to the ground and people didnt go deaf is beyond me lol. I don't know why people are shitting on coreys voice. Surfacing at knot fest 2020 sounded pretty spot on to me.

My wife was a Drake Pharmacy student 94-96. We lived in the apartment complex on University Ave. on the first floor next to the Safari Club. Our bed headboard would have been just feet away from what would've been the Safari Club stage. I remember the music being really loud. I've kicked my self for years not knowing at the time what was beginning next to us. I'm a Slipknot fan, if I could repeat the past I would have passed on the Home Team Pizza and went to listen. We're from Bakersfield, CA, Korn was just starting out around the same time. Morale of the story, if you hear some kick ass music, go listen, you never know who you're missing out on.
