Pen storage without the keyboard is a huge factor for me so thank you for covering that, with the magnets and different options as well. My question is can I leave my pen attached to my surface studio laptop without overcharging the pen battery?

Does anyone know how the slim pen 2 nib compares the the standard surface pen nib. I enjoyed the soft feel as opposed the plastic tip like the Apple Pencil. Is it still soft?

I have a question. I recently purchased a Surface Pro 8 and the new Slim Pen 2 to go with it. I am having trouble being able to use the inking feature on different browsers. Any ideas how to get that to work?

I have a surface pen 2 used on both Surface Pro 7 and 8. I don’t have the jitter issue or not enough to notice, maybe it’s the 7+?. But one thing u can do when drawing a line in white board, draw a small line and hold the pen there for half a second, it’ll create a vector for you and lines are always perfect without a ruler.

How can we use the side button as an eraser? instead of fliping the pen?

Hello ! i have a Surface Pro 9 my issue is that my pen slim pen 2 wont charge at my charging port in my keyboard and i dont know why i tried to press the shortcut button but the LED light wont flash how do i fix this it wont charge and the LED light wont on if i press 5 seconds on it and i did all i can but it doesnt on and work can anyone help me. thank you

At 04:00 you said you started with the Slim 2.1 but you labeled the 1st. four lines as Surface 2017. Then you went on with the grey and black surface 2017 pens and then you finished with the Slim 2.2. Could you, please, tell me if I am correct? Both Slims look reaaally good. R520c looks good enough, though. I would like you to "bring the R520BT to the table" more often. If it is as good as the c version, I'd prefer the extra capability it brings (button programming).

On the i5 Surface Pro 8 the fan noise (it does have a fan, I was wrong) is EXTREMELY quiet. quietest fan I've ever barely heard. on the Laptop Studio,... it's pleasant. very breathy, and high quality fan sounding....????? yeah.... but sounds quieter than previous Surface devices I've used. I'll try to do a side by side test.

yes, it does connect, connects fairly well but not as good as the surface pen or r520c, but keep in mind you will need to find a way to charge it. benefit isn't there yet for me, if they update firmware or software, it may be, but currently it doesn't charge, costs $130, has only one side button and has about the same line quality as the r520c.

I am still in mess trying to order Surface Pro 8 to Russia so I can upgrade my Surface Pro 2017 drawing experience and I am barely use typecover on my old Surface because I have BT keyboard so I wonder if you know how can Slim Pen 2 be charged? I saw special microsoft charger for it sold separately and I also assume it can be charged wirelessly by Surface Pro 8 but only if I'll have typecover, right? Can I charge Slim Pen 2 with any wireless charger (say my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and S10e has a wireless charging ability to share wireless charge with other devices) or maybe this pen has any hidden USB port for charging so I can just use any USB cable to charge it?

There is a separate charger that costs about $35 and is the ONLY other option that I am aware of. You can get the r520c stylus. It’s $33 and it’s VERY close in drawing quality

The haptics are really cool but doesn’t work in all programs. Most drawing programs it doesn’t. Keep in mind I still like the slim pen 2 best. But it’s not the only good option

I was going to buy even something like Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 for ability to use Wacom tech stylus but then I saw your review for new Surface Pro 8 and new Laptop Studio and thought I would better get it rather than Samsung. @@TabletPro Thanks for your confirmation. I believe you tested it on the Surface Pro 8, which means their Surface Pro 8 digitizer panel + pen don't give hover tilt. I assume their new Studio gives the same result. When I first got my Surface Go 1, it did sense hover tilt (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mp-ozaavobSToKw.html), but at some point, it stopped giving hover tilt and I'm not sure if it was some firmware update that caused the change.

Can it be charged with Ipad air's magnetic charge?

Should be able to. As long as it works with your computer, you can have it switch to a different tool with the side button. If you mean something different let me know.

Would you recommend the slim pen 2 over the surface pen v4 for a surface pro 5? Or are the extra benefits not available for the pro 5 screen?

Definitely not the slim 2. No benefits with the pro 5. Surface pen is good. Renaisser r530 or r520c pen is good and cheaper.

How do I know if the pen is being charged wirelessly? I own a laptop studio with a slim pen 2. Slipping underneath the keyboard part doesn't automatically charge it. Still 70% after a while.

Battery is showing in the Surface app at 70%? Is the laptop studio plugged in or not? Maybe it only charges the pen when it’s plugged. I’m not sure. Mine shows a little white light in the center of the pen when I attach it for just a few seconds. Does yours do that? It’s just past the button near the middle.

I may have missed this, but does anyone know if the slim pen 2 tip is replaceable? I've seen there are replacement tips for the slim pen 1.

Is Surface Slim Pen 2 compatible with surface pro 7?

Does your slim pen 2 tip vibrate if you tap on it like its loose and when you press down with it does it move at all. Mine is doing those things

mine is a little wiggly, I've had 2 slim pen 2's and both were like that. not sure how I feel about that part, I do like the slim pen 2 a lot though

@@Kowalskithegreat I don't think the nib is removable as it doesn't ship with a replacement. My guess and it's not definitive, is that it isn't removable or at least not without special information or tools

3:45 is slim 2.1 and 3:56 is the 2017 pen, right? Not the other way around as stated at 4:44? Just confirming, thanks for the informative video!

I wouldn’t recommend the slim pen 2 for the pro 4. It’s a very expensive pen and not likely to perform better than the surface pen or the renaisser r520c or r530. I’d recommend the renaisser ones.

When you use the slim pen 2 and you stop using it, is there any way to turn it off temporarily and save power?

I'm not sure. I think it's restricted to 1024, but it would be the VERY last thing I would look at to fixing pressure related problems. what program are you using a stylus in that has an issue with pressure? have you adjusted the pressure levels down in the Surface app?

can it charge while the computer is asleep?

But I bought the keyboard that goes with the pro X why doesn’t it charge ? I have to go back to Best Buy? This is frustrating

No, it's not possible. You'll have to buy a slim pen 2 charger separately. It costs about 30€

doesnt seem like my keyboard is charging my pen...its at 75% isnt going up but will go down

That's correct, the version I'm using doesn't have a bluetooth button. The R520BT model does have bluetooth and similar drawing quality

@@Panidh I'm working with Microsoft to be able to adjust pressure sensitivity in non surface pens and hope to be able to add that feature to the pen tool. but you are correct, they have removed that feature from windows. (really annoying to me)

compatible yes, recommended, no. many of the components in the slim 2 are built to specifically work better on the pro 8-studio- pro 9 models. Other than those computers most of the value is incompatible with other machines. So you will get a very expensive not really ideal experience. Also the magnetic points are different than a surface pen or r530 stylus so it won't attach magnetically to the same machines. I don't remember if the pro 4 had a magnetic spot for the pen so it may be unimportant. Hope that helps

The ones on my website are the same performance. The company makes some that have a different pressure curve that I don't prefer for art. Their amazon store sells them indiscriminately, I only sell the one I prefer from my website. They may eventually cut the one out of production though so that it is all the variant I prefer.

Please use a plastic ruler as well to draw the lines. It easer to see the jitters Thanks

It's actually going to make the test less scientific. This is because plastic rulers can carry static and interfere with inking, and also your other hand holding the ruler could also be interfering with the screen. If you wear electrically insulating gloves and discharge the ruler with ground before doing it it might work, but not worth the effort.

Looks like the Slim Pen 2 has better line quality then its podecessors. I hope it's more durable then its podecessors. My Slim Pen 1 quit erasing and the bluetooth button shortcuts quit working after a few months of owning it.

while it doesn't feel cheap,..... It feels loose and rattles, which doesn't typically lead to a long functional life. But it could be fine, it's gen 2.

I would say almost definitely yes. It did on the Surface Pro 7+ which came out after the book 3. But I haven’t tested it specifically.

It’s a terrible design. The chargers aren’t even out yet. They don’t tell you when you purchase the pen it’s not included. So you get a dead pen unless you have the keyboard

Ahahah that sound comparison at 13:30 cracked me up xD thank you for the unitentional funny moment. That was worth it :p Do you think Microsoft should rather invest/research on a "paper like" transparent material to put on top of the screen ? I'm a bit wondering if trying to emulate paper so hard is worth it. Haptic, sound, all that is a lot of fake... When I compare the surface "glass" screen with my old Samsung Ativ 7, the feeling was already here. Samsung was able to produce a screen giving a good "solid" feeling, not slipery glass feeling, so maybe there is something here as well.

yeah, it is a lot of work towards fixing one side of the equation. we could just create a new normal and leave it alone.... but,,.... I like the pursuit, it's some of those little things done perfectly that make some products incredibly enjoyable to use. @@TabletPro I like the pursuit, I dislike the price they make us pay for it :'D that's why I was hoping they simply consider the surface (pun intended) of the screen rather than puting all into the pen. But I'm very pleased to see the line quality improvment, this is a major step up ! My Ativ 7 still rocks! Its a home server now that the screen "burned" a little :) I really had a good feeling with it, good screen, super responsive at pen tracking and pressure. The strange "smooth" screen really did the trick. It wasn't slipery but not grainy either, very strange. The pen size was the only problem, and I would loved a little more pressure range, but I believe wacom caped it on purpose. Overall to me this was one, if not, the one first really viable and no-compromise tablet-pc. Of course now it looks like a plastic dinosaurus, but a trustworthy one ! :p Happy to come by and comment on good content as well ! Keep up the good work !

Thanks again for the insight! There is a charging cradle that is sold separately if you plan to use it with older Surface (it was used to be included with Slim Pen 1 with the same price). The button seems to be a step down, I don't like the side button on Slim Pen 1, but making it recessed... that is not good, Microsoft. They should learn from Wacom, their buttons are always accessible and more importantly, very light to press.

recessed! ugh.... that was the word I was struggling to find... lol. yeah, the placement of the button is different and seems more aimed at thumb interaction,... so maybe it will be okay, but will need to test more. how much is the new charging cradle, I haven't seen it yet. The side button here,... not super easy to press, not hard. Maybe with time will be easier. I really don't like not having a second side button. That's my actual biggest complaint.

I agree, I have the Slim 1, it works with my Surface Pro 5, as well as my Samsung Flex Alpha (the model that doesn't come with the S-Pen. Love it, and it's easy to plug in anywhere and get a quick charge.

I don't think it has pressure. I just tested it here and don't see it registering pressure.
