    Great job, I enjoy your videos, they are very informative and you actually build things where a lot of the "woodworkers' do more sponsoring than building

    This is a great looking piece~! I saw one similar to this at Hobby Lobby and it was of course several hundred bucks for a piece of trash. I'll be tackling this one soon. Thanks for the video~!

    Perfect! This video couldn't have come at a better time. This is almost exactly what I'm planning to build for my living room, except I think I want to use oak for the exterior front and sides and stain the entire exterior with the rubio monocoat. I'm pretty sure that I want to put it up on 4 legs so that my robot vacuum can get under it. I have some experience with rubio monocoat on some beams that I built for a client about a year back. I really like it and it is super simple to use once you get the hang of it. I love the look and it's quick compared to traditional stain and poly finishes. It's a very tough finish too. That same client had their entire first floor oak floors sanded and refinished with Rubio monocoat by a hardwood floor refinisher. After the floors were all sanded smooth they just squirted the monocoat on the floor, squeegeed it around with a rubber squeegee on a stick in front of the buffer and then buffed the entire floor with a huge floor burnisher like you see them use to polish VCT floors. It looks fantastic and it's a durable finish.

    Awesome, that would be a great build! I want to do another one similar to what you mentioned with glass front doors. I agree 100% with the Rubio comment - I think the price is a turn off for many people but it is so much easier than doing multiple coats of poly!

    @@mmcc_woodshop6288 The Rubio goes a long way too. It's amazing how little it takes to cover an area.

    regarding not painting the back, I think that more paint means less humidity getting into the wood and less expansion contraction?

  • @mmcc_woodshop6288

    @mmcc_woodshop6288

    Plywood shouldn’t expand/contract at all to my understand but you would be spot on with a solid wood panel 👍🏻

    This is the third or fourth vid I’ve watched, and as a ww for 50 years I would think you may want to build a cc sled. 1 for cuts and 1 for dados. I cringe at each long and narrow cc with just your hand or push block. This is from my experience , and from learning from the saw bind kickbacks. I like your working method though. I’ve got all ten digits.

    Thanks for the input and tips! Always a good reminder to be careful on those cuts.. I’m hoping to upgrade to the sawstop crosscut table sled eventually 👍🏻

    I have two things to say about the back. Every single time I’ve not done the back of a piece… I never really care UNTIL delivery. LOL. That’s when I always wish that I had finished it. The second is… if the back had been more of a solid piece of material that looked nice unfinished I would leave it unfinished. BUT… a bonus third comment… I also refurbish furniture. A lot of pieces have a 1/4” piece of material as the back and generally is unfinished. But those pieces don’t have protection on them and end up needing replaced. So even a quick spray lacquer is better than nothing.

    😆 that’s exactly how I feel when I deliver things. I feel like it’s better to overdeliver than overpromise. Good points!

    Fantastic build, great attention to detail. Your channel needs more subs! and to your question regarding finishing the back: I would makes it look ok at a glance if it was for me, or make it really good if for a customer as they could see the back as it is initially installed and get bad vibes Oh and I love your dust mask/goggle arrangement, I'm becoming more conscious of dust etc. I need to do similar
