Damn, I remember that ad too! Bought one when I was a kid and I think I even still have it. Maribou streamer on a lead body. Catches so many fish it's illegal. Never caught a thing. LOL

hello kelly man! besides dumbbell eyes, how can make a fly fish hook point up? by the way your tutorials in my opinion, are awesome!

Sometimes I soak quills for quill bodies and peacock herl in water before wrapping to keep from cracking, could you soak marabou to prevent cracking when palmered?

I was given some turkey feathers, long wing quills, some other shorter with mixed Marabou to quill but not a pointed tip. How can I prep these for use. Can they be washed ?

What about hackle? What kinds are good for large salt and freshwater streamers?

This was a really good video. I hate to even ask, but I wish you could talk a little bit about picking a good piece of pheasant tail. Half my PT flies have tails that look like garbage. I know you have some insight. It's nowhere near as interesting as marabou, but PT is a material a lot of us use. Thanks for the Videos.

I’m attempting to make marabou jigs for myself. When selecting marabou, are you mostly going for the tips of the feathers to make it flow and swim better in the water? How far on the feather stem do you go down in order to find what you’re looking for?

Hey Robert, We do go off the tips when we are stacking the marabou instead of palmering. We just look for those tips to line up and be full. As far as how far down the stem that does depend on the feather. Once the tips dont line up, that is where we strip the stem down. - Jeremy

Hey Kelly i have a hard time with making the head on the elk hair caddis the hair always wants to roll over on the hook, What am I doing wrong?Help!!!!!!!!

Jim, first make sure the thread is very set and half hitched before you get ready to set the wing, often the thread will loosen while you are getting the hair ready or when you pick the bobbin up, so when you go to set the hair it has no tension and rolls. The other thing is not holding your material through out the entire process. Make sure you set the second turn straight down while still holding the hair so it can not spin and pull straight down. move forward with the thread to the eye with out releasing the tension. the only thing that can make it spin is to little tension. KG

Kelly, do you dye any of your furs, feathers. I understand they use Kool-Aid as a dye. do you have info. on this subject?

Ron, i don't have any info on it but I am sure there tons of tutorials on line. Kool-Aid is a common dye but I am not sure about the shade process. KG

Gink and Gasoline has a great article topic from awhile back. Streamers work great on small creeks, stealth/planning/accuracy/ equipment are key. 5wt floating line w/ 5-7ft flouro leader Ox or int sink poly leader w/ tippet works awesome. fly choice depends on time of year, clarity, size of bait in the system. I've caught fish on double hooked articulated streamers on small creeks w/ a sink tip poly leader but only in certain conditions. Usually fish size 1-6 single hook streamers in all of the standard color choices. Matching color w/ water clarity and sky conitions as well as the systems available forage. Cant go wrong w/ olive wooly bugger size 2 -6.

Bryce, I use "micro streamers" (1' to 1 1/4" long, sparsely dressed) that imitate the local minnow fry in the small creeks with great success. The trout seem to prefer them to nymphs - guess that there is more protein in a minnow. I fish them slow as I can to make them easy to catch. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, thanks for the insight! I throw streamers in the rivers all day long but I definitely want to try and get into some small creek meat eaters this spring.

Bryce, I do pretty much the same thing Hank said. scale my flies down a little and do a lot of moderate to slow jigging. I fish a lot of leech, and feather wings like Gray Ghost, and mini marabou muddlers. I dont fish sinking lines very often in small creeks either, I don like the vibration the line creates in the smaller rivers. KG

Mono-vision Lasik screwed my depth perception. Don't do it, ESPECIALLY if you tie flies!

Just a little correction: wooly bugger marabou is from turkeys and is different from chickabou. Occasionally you’ll get a wooly bugger marabou feather in a blood quill package. I’m fairly certain that the feathers are from the sides of the marabou patch
