Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that induces weight loss by restricting food intake. With this procedure, which is usually performed laparoscopically, the surgeon removes approximately 75 percent of the stomach. This results in the stomach taking on the shape of a tube or "sleeve" which holds much less food. Although originally devised as the first stage of a two-stage procedure for superobese or high-risk patients, the sleeve gastrectomy is now commonly and successfully used as a destination procedure for weight loss in persons with BMI greater than 40.
Statistically, the reported weight loss for this procedure ranges from 60% of the excess weight; better results are obtained with good adherence to dietary and behavioral guidelines. With smart food choices, regular exercise, and good eating habits, patients who have had a sleeve gastrectomy will enjoy and maintain good weight loss.

@@denisecovington8182 for me I finally felt in control. A huge sense of relief. I embraced every moment pre and post surgery. Sure it was a big adjustment and you learn along the way, particularly in the early days. Overall I didn't have a tough journey. Its been life changing for me in the best way possible.
I was going to get bariatric surgery in 2010 but I backed up and was already in the process of getting it done I even did the testing , the classes and etc and was ready to get my surgery but I changed my mind and till this day my dr stills offers me bariatric surgery maybe one day I’ll change my mind and finally get the surgery done for sure I did my research about bariatric surgery, wls, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass for many years now 😊

They offer it because they get paid for the surgery, if u can maintain your weight u don’t need it
I had this sx done a month ago in Tijuana, and thankful to God. I lost 30 pounds and happy. I throw up when i eat most times though but im not complaining.

@denisecovington8182 I got mine 1 month and a half ago and I'm feeling great! I've lost 44 lbs so far .. I feel satisfied with such a small amount of food now.. I dont regret getting my gastric sleeve one bit
Literally in the waiting room to get this procedure done. Any post op advice would help.

@user-lv2fk5uc6e for me so far its been smooth sailings. The hardest part was trying to pee after the anesthesia. It like numbs you. But the pain was manageable and lasted only two days. I'm almost two weeks in and dropped 7 pounds already. Not hungry at all!

Had mine done 12 days ago. The WORST part were the gas pains....the rest is usual post op little pains here and there, nothing big.
What’s the down time??

Quick question.. the piece that is removed after stapling, is it removed from the body or remains in the body? If it gets removed, how does it come out?

@rahuldude007 it is pulled through the biggest one of the five incisions.
Just got this done 2 days ago… it feels like someone stuck their hand inside my body and scrambled my organs around 🙃 i can feel my insides moving around as if that hand is still on there

@@meganmoniz1465 yes the feeling went away the 2nd week! I feel completely back to normal. I just can’t eat the same spicy foods I used to eat before but other than that I am great. Also i’m down 75 pounds ❤️

7 days ago today for me. The hardest part is the larger incision. I've had no nausea whatsoever and the only pain is from the larger incision that isnt bad at all. From the start of the 2 week liver shrinkage diet plus 1 week post op, I have lost 30lbs.

It is removed from the body through one of the incisions. If it is too big to easily fit through the incision it can sometimes be cut up inside the body and pulled out in pieces.
Just got this done 4 days ago and my mom had the same surgery last year. She said this feels like when she had had her c-sections. Yea im never having kids lol not worth it

@@soothingtunes9247 well at the time I thought I was done with surgeries cuz this one was a doozy to recover from but this past April i had to get my gallbladder out too and the surgeon went through the same incisions that had just recovered. It was slightly easier to recover from. So what im saying is I still dont want to potentially have to go through that pain again a third time so it does what it says on the tin lol I dont think its that hard to comprehend

So I’m 27 years old I’m already at 260 pounds and I’m only 5 foot seven and I’m starting to have health problems and I feel like I need to do this otherwise, my life will be affected for the worst Is it recommended?

Hello, I'm 29 and I can relate to everything you mentioned, we're the same exact height and build. I am getting the gastric sleeve done on the 28th of this month. I have completed all testing and though I am nervous, I truly do believe that this will help aid me in adopting a healthier lifestyle. I lost 43 lbs on my own before considering having bariatric surgery . Good luck to you with whatever you decide ❤

If I go in for this surgery, I will be 65 by the time they would be doing the actual surgery. Is that too old? It scares me to think there my be issues do to my age. I am 5.1 and 197 lbs at 64 yrs old
