Thank you for the video! I’m a senior citizen and I’ve been sleeping on the floor (with half of that thickness) with a twice folded king size cotton comforter with a sheet and thin down cover for about 4 months now. I’m laying that on top of a thin wool carpet but I know it’s not the best for humidity…now that summer is here, I’ll probably get a type of tatami, since I’m committed to the floor now. I might get the inexpensive “grass blankets” that they sell at Dollar type stores in the summer, and use those underneath. I don’t miss the bed at all! Very few aches and pains left…the fascia gets such a great massage on the hard surface. (See Block Therapy, Deanna Hansen) I honestly feel like I’m getting in my bed when I go to sleep now.

Serious question: what is the point of a fold away mattress if you have a whole room dedicated to the tatami mats that take up all the space? Just curious because I’m considering this mattress but for the space saving. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t get a platform bed and put a futon style mattress on it and then not have to air it out???

Because tatami is just traditional Japanese flooring. Tatami mats are how they measure floor space and they use tatami rooms for more stuff than just putting a futon on. Tatami is soft and has a natural grassy smell and is really good at absorbing humidity, basically like natural carpet. That last part is the reason they want you to use tatami under a futon, but it's not an absolute necessity unless you live in an extremely humid region and barely sun/beat your futon.
