Sleeping Bags and Blankets. My choices for Wild Camping, Bushcraft, Hammock camping and Backpacking.

In this video, part one in a mini series on sleep systems, I will be going through the sleeping bags and blankets/quilts I currently use for year round camping, bushcraft, hammock camping, canoe tripping and backpacking. I have owned and used a lot of sleeping bags over the years, some great and some terrible, the ones in this video are ones that I rate well and continue to use as I can rely on them - a comfortable nights rest is important in order to function and complete tasks the following day and I like to be comfortable!
I have listed links to the items shown in the video below where I am able to, items no longer in production or available have the closest equivalent item linked.
Please tune in for episode two - bivvy bags.
I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!

I only just come across your channel and i wish i come across it ages ago, the content, tips, information, views and knowledge of materials, and how everything works in bivvy's, tent's and sleeping bags totally awesome. I'm a Welshman living near the Brecon Beacons and i thinkTrekking, Wild camping, Bushcraft and just general taking your dog for a long (all day) walk around the Brecon Beacons, is the best hobby/way of life or feeling you can ever have, just watching your videos promotes that. I've been thinking about doing a charity walk(for a long time) from the Brecon Beacons to Newtown in Mid Wales and back in support of Autism Awareness and Mind, reason being my daughter has Autism and i myself suffered with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and watching channels like your's and many others has given me that kick up the arse i need but until then Corvid has to be flattened to a point due to restriction's i can't see that happening for awhile anyway Thank You for videos/channel keep up the good work and keep safe.

Enjoyed another great vid. I live I. Big bear country wilderness Rocky Mountains. We have a saying because of that. "Remember, a sleeping bag looks like a burrito to a bear, sooo, don't let it smell like one!" In other words, keep it clean so as not to draw a bear. in..hard to run in a bag..kinda a hop if it is needed...lolo

Great selection of stay warm systems... and I especially like your preference to Synthetic over Down. Down is great in certain areas, but it is not practicable in all conditions. Even sleeping causes Down to absorb moisture from your body. so it is best to air out Down bags daily, while in use. I often times just use a clean sheet that I grab out of the closet, before I leave home. As a barrier between me and my sleeping bag, since I prefer to not wear the same clothes I was wearing out by the campfire, to bed. I keep threatening to sew the edges of a sheet together, to make a giant sock, that I can just slip down into... but I'm too lazy. haha Great video, ATB Simon have fun

Good idea to make a sheet liner! I prefer synthetic if I’m sleeping on the ground, but much prefer down in my hammock - it gets more air and keeps things dry. 👍

Guys, gear and beer! Women get off on closets full of shoes and styles ... guys on the other hand, and more practical, like multiples of stuff that interest them like sleeping bags, tents, stoves, etc. (I'm as guilty as the next, if not a bit more so) I too have tents for all seasons, and then some, and sleeping bags and other gear to match. On the subject of sleeping with blankets, get some "blanket pins," (oversized safety pin) a real aide when you are using blankets as bedding in the wild. The help you "form" the blankets around you, you can even create a double thickness seam on the open side to retain heat, keep your toes covered and warm and snug things around your head and shoulders. I have several Hudson Bay wool blankets that I use for car camping. Great gear and very colorful too.

No zips or shoulder pads just a plain bag you slide in from the top.. As you can tell i`m fairly old so i`m no hardman who is happy to rough it,. Great video, I sold my buffalo system years ago, I was always sorry that I sold my lightweight outer bag. I'm a down lover myself. As for blanket camping unless it's a warm summers night or I have a long fire then I'm cold, wrapping yourself up diamond fashion is the best way to blanket camp but it's fiddly to do and moving around messes the whole system up. It's woodland romanticism, best way is to use a lightweight down bag and a blanket on top, that'll keep the retro crowd happy .....ish Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us.

Thanks mate! Nice idea to use a lightweight bag under a blanket - stops those sparks from holing it too - ruined a few bags that way!! 👍

I don't know about going back in history concerning the use of Wool Blankets , I first started sleeping outdoors in 1969 aged 13 using a wool blanket . I got my first sleeping bag ( hoodless ) when I was 16 , saved months for it . Mind you I suppose that far back is history . I have had the Super Bags myself outer and inner from Survival Aids years ago , actually took them with me to the middle east back in the 80's , , came in handy in the Negev Dessert and Golan Heights , as it can get bloody cold out there .
