@@carriefishGod same, doesnt help some of the channels that put these out full on dont accept corrections, one even implies there are no official lyrics, but there are. And its usually people outside the UK not understanding Vessels accent and just adding words. My biggest grip is half algoritm, half deity being missunderstood as half of a rhythm totally missing the point of that section of the song.

Sleep Token really is a super unique band. The members remain completely anonymous to focus to keep the focus on the music. The lead vocalist goes by the name Vessel, and the other members are II (drums), III (bass), and IV (guitar). The lore is that a deity named Sleep contacted Vessel in his dreams. Now Vessel is dedicated to spreading Sleep's message through their music as "offerings." Keeping with the overall theme, they refer to their live shows as "rituals." They mix every style from hip hop, r&b, metal, trap, funk, etc. Highly recommend you deep dive this band starting with Alkaline, Ascensionism, Take Me Back to Eden, but anything you choose will be a good listen. I just let their vinyls play all the way through.

Love your recommendations, just throwing out a great song to start with, and that is “Jaws”. I almost feel that’s their first venture into really subverting the expectations you have of where the song is going to lead. Plus I could watch that video a thousand times and catch something new in it.

When you look up the correct lyrics for the song, I believe it’s about the aftermath of a suicide attempt, and if you look at it from the perspective of the narrator laying in a hospital bed “I woke up surrounded. Eyes like frozen planets, just orbiting the vacuum I am. They talk me through the damage, consequence, and how it’s a pain they don’t understand…”. Super intense stuff. I hope after sharing his dark experience, Vessel knows how much people love him, and how much he’s helped others by revealing his demons with the world.

My favorite line is, “Blue lights over murder…” which I did not understand for a while since American emergency service vehicles usually flash red and not blue, like in the UK!

After taking into considerations of other songs, I am pretty sure that thus song actually talks about an unborn child lost in a car accident, there are a few images of "pregnant" things such as the figure from Are You Really Okay holding a child in an incubator, even the art for this song is a fish with something in its belly. The line "crumble like a temple built from future duaghters" drives this home for me. In another song, he talks of her "never bear the weight of two" Could be wrong, though

The Drummer, II, really stands out to me. Of course you have Vessel and his incredible vocals, but Sleep Token is one of the few bands that really "let the drummer cook". His drumming elevates the whole third verse to something special. And this just keeps on getting better in the third album, Take me Back to Eden. Vessel is an incredible vocalist with deep lyrics and a VERY unique tone, but II is a god-tier drummer, without his influence the songs wouldn't hit as hard as they do

I can promise you a totally unique journey if you decide to dive into Sleep Token's music and the lore of Vessel.

Came here for ST, staying for your analysis. There's some lyrics to interpret here, notably is he trying to fall asleep, or is he trying to get to his diety sleep. Sleep (The diety he worships) came to him in a dream. The albums are a trilogy about the relationship between vessel (vocalist) and sleep. Lots of lore to the band, it's a journey. I'll join you.

Their catalog is quite the journey. They blend genres in ways you wouldnt expect. Tons of great music

So interesting you mentioned Pink Floyd, up until I discovered Sleep Token a few years back Pink Floyd had been my clear favorite band for 30+ years. With only 3 albums and a couple EPs Sleep Token is now nose to nose with them for me. And I do think it’s because of their ability to create pieces of music, not just songs….they create an atmosphere, and paint a picture that gives you the feeling and the outline, with detail only coming in with focus from the listener….with always a little being left for interpretation. I feel this music, it’s an experience I can immerse myself in….

I believe it is 4/4 If you haven't seen it check out ii's (the drummer) interview with Drumeo. Its the only interview any of them have given. He goes over technique, inspirations and does live playthroughs. This song included. This is a favorite.

Sleep Token is one of those bands (for me), didn't dig it as much the first time I heard it. But the more I listen to them...just...wow. You've got to check out the drumming video that II did with Drumeo. BAD. ASS.

Huge fan! I would love to see a reaction video of Sleep Token’s taking me back to Eden. Such a great song.

At least to me, this song reads like someone waking up in a hospital after a failed suicide attempt. It's one of my favorite songs from them and (sadly) hits close to home. I think you would have fun with "Aqua Regia" and "Chokehold".

If you want to experience the journey that sleep token can be I recommend going albums. Sundowning and then the new album. The latest album it inself is a masterpiece but it will hit double as hard if you go old -> new.

Little bit of back story, the singer "Vessel" sees the deity the band claims to worship named "Sleep" that remarkably he only sees when asleep. They are anonymous by their own wishes, to keep the focus on the music/story. If you consider that interaction between Vessel and 'Sleep' in the songs you hear it might help things make more sense lyrically/thematically. They're mostly about Vessel's relationship with 'Sleep' and the toxic bond they share and the pain that comes with the endless cycle of meeting your god night after night only to be ripped away each morning when you awake. Awesome reaction as well! Sleep token #1!!!! "and your bitter father" is supposed to be "earn your bitter fodder"

I've got a story for you. My father dreamed he was back in World War 2 in the navy and his ship got hit by torpito's. So he picked up my mom. Thinking that she was his brother who was also in the navy. To save him, he threw his brother overboard. But he actually threw my mom over the bed. Did she landed on her back? Ended up in the hospital in traction for a one week.

The drums in Sleep Token are some of the best in the entire genre. In my opinion, I think their drummer ("ii") is going to get close to Danny Carey levels of talent in his career. Danny is 62 - ii is in his 30s. I can't wait to see what he does with his next 30 years.
