If you're desperate to experience it, not saying it will necessarily work for you.. But for me, If I eat a crap load of Red Leicester cheese before going to bed, works every time! The first few times it happened at frightened the life out of me. Then once I realised I could control it, I got curious. No other cheese does it, only Red Leicester. Sometimes it lasts for a couple of seconds sometimes it feels like it's lasting for an eternity. Who knows how long it really lasts, you can't exactly look at your watch. All perception of time is lost, it might just be a few waking microseconds, certainly something different to experience.

Happened to me once in my 20s. I was under a lot of stress and dealing with panic disorder that was not controlled. It was the craziest hallucination and feeling I've ever experienced. Feeling trapped and seeing a shadow on top of you isn't fun. I knew what it was, so it wasn't concerning. The part I hated was going to sleep thinking if it would happen again.

For real. I would see a bizarre, fuzzy figure who looked like static out of an old VHS, but all black. I’d also see weird figures moving in the room where my eyes couldn’t quite move to. I remember staring at it and bringing my heart rate down, but then it went back up again because I started to get angry that it wouldn’t just end. It felt like it went on for hours, even though I know it was probably seconds. I had insomnia for three whole days after that just because I was so anxious about it happening again.

My question to you is this, have you partake in sinful activity? Because I made a mistake once and I did something very traumatic to an alright guy and I did not necessarily do anything illegal. Let me tell you this, the trauma that I caused this person, I feel it on repeat, over and over again. I fucked up. So I might have been cursed by God or demons or karma. This is not strong evidence, but it's something.

One held me down and the other grabbed my arm, which I can still feel it today. This was no sleep paralysis. This was a haunting. I don't care what anyone says.

If anyone believes in the Bible, demons and things of that nature should be considered. It does state that Jesus cast out demons, though it never said that he vanquished them all from the planet so where are they? Or, is the Bible wrong? Science/the government, always tries to explain away things like the UFOS they simply said were weather balloons during the "Roswell Incident?"

About 20 years ago, I would have sleep paralysis every night for several months. I would feel it coming on as I drifted off to sleep. It was horrible! I don't remember seeing anything evil but the sense of fear was unreal. I would try to get my husband to wake me up (in my "dream" ) yet to him I was laying there sound asleep. But to me, I'm fighting to move and fight trying to wake up yet in reality I wasn't moving an inch. It was the worst!! When I finally did wake up I would be.so relieved but afraid to try to go back to sleep because I was afraid it would happen again. Most of the time it did. It was horrifying and I am so glad they finally stopped.

I had it once during broad daylight, but I was able to see and hear my mother’s and sister’s spirit and suddenly a force pulled me backwards and I snapped back into my body. It was the most interesting experience I’ve ever had.

1st episode I had: "I believe in alien abduction now." 2nd episode: "The ghost from the movie Mama is hovering above me and staring at me through the covers." Second time wasn't as bad because I looked up my first experience online and learned about sleep paralysis. So this time was terrifying, but I knew that I was just hallucinating. I was petrified, but I just remained as calm as possible and tried to control my breathing. I don't know how long it lasted (1, 2 or 5 minutes?), but I just let it pass. It's still a terrifying experience that I would rather never encounter it ever again.

  • @Elemblue2

It is wild to me that you specified that they moved out of your room, and that some are scarier than others, because *that is a specific feature of my own as well.* In my first experience, I had no idea what was going on. But there was something behind me. I heard it moving and that's what woke me up. I took inventory of what I had control of and realized I had control of single muscle in my lower leg. I noticed when I moved that muscle, I got control of the ones around it. I basically thrashed my way out of the paralysis using that, using one leg to kick the other awake ext. The I heard a few small scraping sounds of it leaving. By the time I managed to force myself awake, it had left. I mean I was aware of it leaving. When I got myself up, I checked the door and it was locked still. That really freaked me out. The second time I was in a large room. I was facing the wall. I woke up to the light scraping of someone walking around the far portion of the room. I assumed it was someone else in the building, but when I tried to look I was unable too. I listened to it move around, all the while becoming more congnicent of how weird it was I couldnt move. Eventually I decided it was time to turn over, and I started doing the thrashing thing again, which is a pretty effective way to break yourself out. You just need to find one muscle that responds and go from there. I heard it leave. In fact, it left rather urgently when I started doing that. It had to travel a significant distance across the room. I finally grabbed awakeness and turned over. Nothing was there. I went around the place and asked the people in it if they had been in this room and they said no. I dont live in a place where people mess with eachother, and there would have been no reason to lie, so I trust their answers completely. Also when people wake me up, I am awake instantly. Not this weird way. The parrallel of the thing leaving freaks me out.

I encounter this frequently especially when I am sleep deprived. The experience was always panic inducing when I was young, but as time goes on, my brain has adapted and can easily recognize whenever I'm in sleep paralysis. Tbh it can be cozy in there; you can bridge it to some cool lucid dreams where you're in control. There are times I purposefully get sleep paralysis by messing with my sleeping schedule just to shift them into lucid dreams where I can reminisce about memories of the past in 3d, tactile illusions and all. In my personal experience, whenever I'm in sleep paralysis, I escape by intentionally hyperventilating to momentarily wake my brain up, then find the agency to sit up and let it pass. It takes me at most 2 to 3 attempts to finally break free.

This was a nightly occurrence for me in my early 20s. I suffered from very bad panic disorder and after the horror of panic attacks all day, this would happen at night time, multiple times a night. It finally got under control taking anti anxiety meds after a year of it going unchecked. The experiences, out of body, and sometimes hallucinogenic were crazy. I used to feel myself hit the cold floor, run down the hallway and then get zoomed back only to realize it was all sleep paralysis. I'm 43 now and still experience it, just that now I dont panic anymore and I know when it's happening I just try to move my arm, my wife also knows when it is happening because she hears me grunting when it happens, and so I taught her to pull my arm when she hears me because trying to just call my name doesnt work, a part of my body has to moved for me to wake up.

I was laying on my side looking at the wall in the dark and felt a hand slowly slide it's hand around my waste and spoon up to me, arm eventually fully wrapped around me. It was utterly terrifying. I kept trying to close my eyes so i wouldn't have to see whatever it was. Often i can't make any noise, but sometimes I'm able to groan long and loud enough to break the episode. Most of the time it's just a presence watching, approaching, or finding it's way into my room. The most recent really disturbed me though and I felt dread all day long. Sucks to have this. Typically I would become extremely aware of my surroundings and sense that someone (or something) is about to enter the bedroom with 'malicious intent'. At that moment I would experience a sort of 'panic' because my brain would somehow tell me I need to act quickly and wake up! But I would actually be aware that my muscles won't react until I 'stress' myself out of the sleep.. it's hard to put into precise words, but I would try to end the sleep/half-sleep stage almost by power of will and by trying to move any part of my body that I can in hope that it will trigger the waking up stage.

I'm a medical doctor... my first experience was as a final year medical student... I remember being excited about the whole thing as it unfolded... I had a classmate that said he had it a lot when we learnt about it and so I was intrigued... it was exciting when it happened... I was fascinated by the fact I couldn't move and the fact that I could see a silhouette and feel a presence... maybe fear didn't come to play because I'm a Christian who happens to understand that I'm safe in Christ and so the thought of a demon attacking me didn't scare me... maybe that's why that fearful thought was not the first I had... I've heard that that's what actually happens in the spirit realm but true or false, it never bothered me... when it started, I was confused... then it hit me .. sleep paralysis and that's when it became fascinating... oh well... I said that I had enough of it and simply said a prayer to wake up and I did ... the second time it happened, I wasn't as excited... just wondered..."oh.. this again..." and tried to observe as much detail as I could of my surrounding till I slept off... I guess...

Incidentally, the flashes of light, followed by audio that "didn't fit" started coming through and I subconsciously started focusing on those and it pulled me out. I've slept with a TV on every night since and I've become so accustomed to knowing when the paralysis is starting that my brain just knows to focus and to find the "flashing lights" and I know I'm coming out when the audio goes from a sort of garble to legible words.

Tips to get rid of Sleep paralysis: 1. Don't sleep immediately once you're tired (from work or game etc.), try to ease your body and mind. Drinking a cup of hot or warm water could help you relax (water therapy to relax your body). 2. Dont eat too much food before you sleep at night. 3. Avoid sleeping in a body straight position like you're already dead or inside a coffin, people who have experienced sleep paralysis have this common sleeping position. 4. Always be thankful and Pray 🙏. P.S. Based on my own experience, research and from what I've heard to those who have experienced the same thing. I'm not a doctor or a medical practitioner, I just wanna share this to help everyone get rid of it especially those who are still experiencing sleep paralysis.

It happened to me while I slept in car. I wasn’t completely flat lying down tho. My legs were still dangling down from the seat. I pulled the recline all the way back and was resting with slight upright position. But being in that position, I was able to easily move and get out of it very soon.

I have a great experience of sleep paralysis. But I always feel someone is there to press my chest. It only leave me when I recite “Aytul Kursi “ and the devil leave me. You will never understand until you experience this whole situation. It’s really some supernatural power which makes us feel helpless and miserable.

It happened to me twice. I knew I had a sleep disorder before the paralysis episodes. I could hear growling and knew it was on my chest.I have a life long issues with REM disorder. Sleep walking and hypersomnia since I can remember. At that time,I had been a clinic nurse for 20 yrs, so I knew what had happened had a scientific reason. Fast forward: DX OSA severe & Narcolepsy w/o cataplexy. A CPAP and Adderall (good sleep hygiene too) have kept the beast away. It's really scary even if you know what it is.

Sleep paralysis is actually when your spiritual conciousness wakes before your physical body does. You are seemingly unable to move because your spiritual body is tethered to your physical body. You struggle to move but your physical body is still in the state of sleep. It is possible to move your spiritual body but it feels like it is buried under a ton of sand. If you are able to move something like your hand or head, it is being separated from your physical body. One time I lifted my head during one of these spells with much difficulty, it made a strange ripping type sound and I was staring at my own physical head still planted on my pillow. By far the weirdest time as it happens to me a lot, I saw a dark figure standing over me and as I struggled to reach out my hand to grab its leg. I could feel my hand moving towards the dark figure although I could still see my physical hand not moving, then the dark figure moved its leg away right when I was about to grab it. Other times, my spiritual body gets choked by these evil spirits with their hands around my neck and sometimes I can feel them stabbing me with some kind of blade. By the time my physical body wakes I am fine though and remain uninjured. Your will which is part of your individual soul, controls everything you do. When you are fully conscious and move your physical body, your spiritual body actually moves first then as it is tethered to your physical body, the physical body instantly follows. What these people are trying to tell you about what sleep paralysis is, isn't what they think it is. Some people have full out of body experiences where they can see their physical bodies still asleep in their beds. Sleep paralysis is when your spiritual body is still connected to your physical one while your conciousness which is also a part of your soul, has awakened without your physical body following immediately after. It is at this time that if you have spiritual beings following you, usually demonic spirits, it is possible to see them as you are using your spiritual eyes to see them, which your physical eyes can't.

I've been experiencing sleep paralysis for my entire life. Actually had one last night. If i fall back to sleep during it, instead of trying to shake myself out of it, i can lucid dream. That is difficult though because of how scared and helpless I feel so i usually fight hard to wake myself up. I notice it will 100% happen if i eat late and sleep on my right hand side. I think it has something to do with my body digesting whatever i eat and over stimulating my brain. Thanks for covering this subject!

I have had them like 20 times but the last “full” one I cut short by using the adrenaline to have a sort of “night journey”. Weirdly I always had these mini SP’s before the real episode. Kind of like when you jolt yourself before falling asleep in a classroom.

This was a great help to me. I had this happen once to me and it was unforgettable. I never saw any being or thing on top of me when I awoke but what I can tell you is that from head to toe, I had a pressure that covered my entire body and pushed me down into my bed with even pressure, I felt held down from head to toe with a forcable pressure. I was looking around but could not move or speak. I felt the initial thrusting pressure that felt like I was being pushed/pressed down into my bed with a perfectly even pressure, like a mold was being made of my body. It lasted a couple minutes. My mind went to the scary place of “ I am completely vulnerable, I cannot protect myself” I will probably save this video and watch again to better understand it. But now I have answers to what the heck happened to me. Thank you for this informative video! Have a fantastic Thanksgiving and weekend! 😊💯🍁🦃

This is a great educational video on the topic. Majority of my episodes of occurred when I try to force myself out of a nightmare as I realize that I’m either in a nightmare or am about to meet my death dealer in my dream. It feels so real, the pain and the fear of your death when you experience it in the dream state. She knows your name and on occasion she will whisper to you so that you may feel her breath on the nap of your neck like a moist window struck by a faint breeze from a wet chill. It rises up the back of your your neck into the center of your head. As the chill crosses your occipital lobe, your eyes are forced shut and you are dragged to sleep with the knowing that she is coming feed on your like a dementor in your sleep.

The closest I've had to any sort of sleep hallucination is that sometimes if I'm extremely sleep deprived and attempting to finally sleep, I can hear distant voices calling out my name. Familiar voices that aren't around anymore, like my late grandmother calling my name from across her house. It's just quiet and subtle enough that I know it's not real and that I'm just hearing things, but it's really weird still.

During my PhD (2001) on muscle spindle control, I discovered an additional aspect that helped explain sleep paralysis and a few other phenomenon. During anaesthesia noradrenaline is secreted from the locus coeruleus (in the floor of the fourth ventricle) onto the cell bodies of the muscle spindle’s motoneurone (gamma motoneurone), hyperpolarising their cell membranes and therefore much reducing or even completely inhibiting the sensitivity of the muscle spindle. This would contribute to paralysis since movement without feedback from the spindles is virtually impossible. Rather old research that has likely been superseded. Cum grano salis!

Now in my mid 30's I'm getting more and better quality sleep, so it occurs less. Also, I changed my sleeping position from on my back to on my stomach, which I find helps to keep it from happening. It usually occured after a long and stressful series of nightshifts. Nowadays it's rare (I no longer work shifts), but the advice I received proved very helpful: If you *know* you're in that sleep-paralysis state, concentrate on moving your eyeballs; if you can move your eyes, the paralysis will immediately be broken. Worked for me, hope it helps.

Fascinating, thank you for these explanations. I had a demonic episode which I won't go into detail about, but it absolutely terrified me. I fit the profile at the time, female and in my early twenties. Last night, as I was close to falling asleep, I heard a loud *bang!* and sensed a large flash of light to my left. _That_ has never happened before, although occasionally I'll hear a knocking sound that isn't real. I'm a sleepwalker, happened more often in my teens but still happens occasionally and usually involves spiders that don't exist. And unfortunately I'm borderline narcoleptic, which manifested when I was about 19. Doesn't matter how much sleep I get, I can literally fall asleep in my chair while working. It's not fun having your brain mess with you this way.

I came across a side note parasomnia called “EHS-Exploding Head Syndrome“ that I thought was a joke, but nope it’s a real thing. They said it occurs usually when just falling off to sleep. I was tired like I always am in the afternoon & was just looking out my window but not just falling asleep. Oddly no ringing in my ears or spots in my eyes as I would’ve expected if it was real. After getting off the medicine EHS stopped. My Dr had me try the daily med again & after 3 days the EHS started happening. Again stopped the med and it stopped. No literature I’ve found that knows why it can happen etc…but it’s been known to happen way before I had it happen. Even my sleep specialist of 15yrs never heard of it. Weird experience, startles but in an instant it’s over with no lingering side effects.

I used to "astral project" or have "out of body experience" in my younger days. Sleep paralysis is literally a stage necessary in order to successfully "project " or when you're coming out of projection. Good times.

I experienced sleep paralysis a few times. I am fully awake, but can't open my eyes or move any body part. I moan in hope that someone wakes me up. If no one wakes me up in a min, by that time I will be relaxed a bit. I try to move my finger tips and it works.

its because it is real - It is actually demonic what you are experiencing it is demons messing with you - so repeat the name of Jesus when its happening, again again say the name Jesus and it will lose it grip, bit by bit - and slowly you will wake up - it always worked for me and its stopped - You have nothing to lose so you should try it ! Plus i found if i slept on my front i didnt get it - - you live in a spiritual world, no one talks about this truth

It happens to me a lot more than I want. I have an old woman pressing down my chest can't moved. Its been happening to me since young. One time it was a small dark shadow who was by my legs. This shadow man wore a cloak and hat and kept growing upwards. And just the other day I had a woman in red choking me. Another weird thing is that my dog was yelping and seem like it saw it too. 😮

I experienced sleep paralysis several times in my life, but there was always a common pattern between those episodes, each episode usually started with me having a dream that I am somewhere outside and at some moment inside my dream I starting to feel extremely tired and I am involuntarily falling asleep inside my dream and all of this is accompanied by the internal struggle of me trying to prevent myself from falling asleep within my dream ( since in my dream I’m usually outside somewhere on the street ), but that feeling of tiredness inside my dream overwhelms me and it starts to feel like I am losing total control over my body inside my dream ending up with sleeping on the street without being able to move a limb. Then this feeling of tiredness, and inability to move any of my limb is only growing as my dream is gradually getting transformed into other similar dreams. And all of this may or may not eventually end up with sleep paralysis where I am between sleeping and awake state, feeling totally paralysed. The last time i was experiencing some hallucinations of some a girl sitting beside me on my bed and was pushing the left part of my body as I was trying to move it as if preventing me from waking up at least that’s how it felt. Does anyone else experience similar patterns together with sleep paralysis? I mean, the patterns of getting tired and involuntarily falling asleep inside your dream?

I experience something similar but on the other end: myself waking up in the dream thinking I'm waking up in real life. And the dream environment is exatcly how I would wake up in real life, it's my current room and everything. But it feels difficult to wake up, feels like my body is heavy and I'm so tired I can't wake. And then when I think I have finally awakened after a while I realize I'm still dreaming.

Two things I've experienced in my life that has scared the crap outta me, Vertigo and sleep paralysis. Vertigo feels like a very bad drunk spinning and sometimes feels like you're going to pass out or vomit, sleep paralysis feels like you're trapped in a dream that you're trying to escape and it feels like you're going to stop breathing and die it is extremely scary much worse than vertigo.

When this happened to me, I felt a demonic presence and saw strange geometric shapes on the ceiling and walls. I could not move or scream even though I tried, then I heard a voice say “want to see hell? Let me show you.” And it felt like I was being pushed down to the center of the earth. It was TERRIFYING. Never happened again. I’ll never forget it. My question is: why does everyone have a negative, demonic hallucination when sleep paralysis happens?

I wonder about the demonic hallucinations, too. My sleep paralysis experience was always demonic. This happened in my teens. Before going to bed, I decided to pray because it had been a while. The sleep paralysis began shortly after. I saw a shadowed figure at the foot of my bed. It told me to stop praying and asked, "Why now do you start to pray?" We spoke through my mind since my body was paralyzed and asleep. "I want you to stop praying." It got closer, and all I could do was move my eyes. I heard a loud hum/static vibrations. I thought I was going to die in my sleep. I prayed, saw a bright light, and then I was able to break out of my sleep paralysis. I also wonder why the humming static vibrations accommodate the sleep paralysis.

Eeeh, because being paralyzed when you wake up is scary AF if you don't know it's just something that the body does every night during REM. once you have learned that it's not a big deal the hallucinations either go away or change. Mine now are a tactile feeling of a small animal like a cat getting into bed with me from the foot of the bed. I'm still a bit scared at first when I first wake up paralyzed but no whee near as bad and it goes away quickly. I just call the cat my ghost cat buddy, mentally tell it to stay at the foot of the bed and go back to sleep most of the time.

Sleep paralysis has happened to me a few times and I almost always just fall back asleep or wake up without anything other than a feeling of paralysis or sedation. One particularly interesting time though, there was a giant snake that I noticed next to my bed which crawled up onto the bed and proceeded to slowly eat me whole. That wasn't even the weirdest part though. It was that I felt so tired, I somehow wasn't scared and just let it happen. After it ate me and I was laying inside it's stomach for a bit, I entered in a random normal dream I don't remember anything about.

This used to happen to me as a kid. The absolute last time i had it was my first year of college. It happened to me when i was 19. However, when i felt the last sleep paralysis, it felt like demons were pulling my soul. I felt that if they were successful, i would be possessed. I was so terrified that i asked God to please help me and spare me. I started praying. I felt the demons release me, and i never had another episode ever again. Could this be a hallucination or real?

I've had to live with sleep paralysis for half my life without knowing what it even was. When I told people what tormented me at night, some of them laughed at me because they didn't know what sleep paralysis was either... it started with me around 13 years old, when I became ill with meningitis...and then suddenly stopped at about 27 years old

It seems to be happening more to me these days. I get it at least once a month. But no demons (probably because I sleep on my stomach). I either hear a sound, like someone’s at the door, or a presence behind or beside me and you can’t do anything about it ‘cause you can’t move. It’s so horrifying. In fact (funny this was posted today because), last night, it happened again, but for the first time, only my left side was paralysed and I could move my right side. But I was afraid to move because the experience is really that scary.

If you ever can move, please check. Its only ever happened to me twice. I hear the sounds of them moving around the room. The sounds are really realistic, and the one time I thrashed my way out of it I heard it leave. If you can somehow still move, think of the closure you could get just by looking... or it could be the begining of your personal harry potter book.

I had a few of them when I was younger, the first one was the most terrifying thing I experienced to this day I couldn’t even open my eyes (that’s true body horror) but the last ones I learned to quickly feel it was coming and be like “oh well here it comes let’s just wait I guess” it was actually quite interesting to be there without being afraid. One of the last ones I felt I was levitating it was amazing, but in one of the first ones I heard and felt something growling at my left ear right beside my bed, I couldn’t say if it was a dog/wolf or a lion. And all of the times I felt the air in my room was alive and heavy, almost like if I was underwater.

Been experiencing this too since my father died when I was nine. It's true it usually happens during your most stressful times. But the other explanation can also be supernatural. A tip when you cannot move: breathe deeply coz that's the only thing you can do. Once your chest move up and down the paralysis will slowly go away. Also, prayer helps. ❤

I used to get this every time I took a nap in college and sometimes when I take a nap now too. I don’t see any monsters but it’s crazy waking up and exerting so much mental effort to move only to be stuck in whatever random position you were asleep in, so I usually give up and just try to fall back asleep for a bit lol
