Their set at Glastonbury was amazing. Brilliant poetry, spat out furiously to a driving tribal beat. They are the sound of austerity Britain. A tonic for this oppressed nation.

As someone from Nottingham I can state that the line from Jake Bugg's song referred to here, Trouble Town, "Stuck in speed bump city where the only thing that's pretty is the thought or getting out" - doesn't refer to the whole of Nottingham. Speed Bump City is a reference to Clifton, a huge council estate on the edge of Nottingham where Jake is from. There are a lot of speed bumps there so Jake is talking about Clifton, not Nottingham as a whole. In the Trouble Town video you can see images of Clifton like the speed bumps on the road and Clifton Block, a high-rise block of flats.

I guesss thats the point, keeping it as simple as possible, 'to the point' so to speak. Much like you Andrew has produced a lot of music already, which probably costs him a lot of time to do. Might aswell enjoy the fruits of your labour on stage, right? Besides, picking up a bass would be no good for him because the looped and edited bits have a certain sound to them which cant always be recreated (think of fingers slipping, certain notes being louder or softer like in a song as Tarantula Deadly Cargo) Everyone already knows he's a talented guy ;)

Manchester and then Britain, had the worlds first industrialisation, mass urbanisation and thus the worlds first industrial proletariat working class...our history and culture is steeped and defined by it, more so than any other nation. Add that to our overtly tribal nature that goes back thousands of years and has been exacerbated by the numerous invasions we've had - hence the huge vairety of accents on Britain and Ireland - and you have a class system that is unique to this country. Marx and Engels based all their writings on what was happening in Manchester, and what they write has defined economics and politics globally ever since. Don't underestimate the power of the class system. How else do people like Cameron and Boris get in power? Jay and Andrew are terrific exponents of it, whether they want to be or try to be or not. What matters is that people feel their music because it's real. And the reason middle class people like working class music - which had happened ever since ever, it's nothing new, how do you think blues and jazz never mind rock punk and hiphop became mainstream - is that they can feel its real, and more interesting than their lives. And that's ok
@EximiusDux

+gornes simracing Indeed. The concept of the working class factory workers who are less than the high income workers and vanity are rather common ways of thinking in multiple European (continent) based nations too.

gornes I think its because the class system in the UK is quite unique. Outside the UK, especially in N. America the class system is often just based on financial income whereas in the UK it has more to do with values and culture.

+gornes simracing Indeed. The concept of the working class factory workers who are less than the high income workers and vanity are rather common ways of thinking in multiple European (continent) based nations too.

Sadly in Germany we don't. All seems washed up and indifferent. The "Left" act like they're on another planet. All the other parties are simply opportunists. Well, I guess this is not only happening in Germany.

everywhere is shit hole unless you live in the wealthier area, Nottingham has its good and bad areas. The irony is though that the shit-holes are the best places to live, the is no life in the posh areas.

Working class is a UK thing? The interviewer lives in a bubble... stupid questions
If "Everywhere is a shit hole", then it must be you then ;-) Stop interviewing musicians like they got something to say.
I'm not criticising universities - well why should you, they're the main ones who'll have you. Not political warriors? Cut the pro-proletariat glorifying crap then. It could appeal to someone who is rich who was working class - yeah - well that does sound like the order of the day, or the bias nowadays
