I love how the dragons in slayers don't even flap their wings when they fly, they just go full jet fighter and fly with crazy magic propulsion.

@@Folsomdsf2 I had to look into that because it sounded interesting, and I used to play a lot of DnD. So apparently in First edition they never specified that they used their wings to fly, and instead flew with magic. So the joke goes that some rules lawyer back then argued you could cast the old dispel magic spell on it and it would fall out of the sky and die. Every edition after has specified that they do use their wings, as well as innate magic since they are magical creatures, to fly.

4:20 the sound design for this scene is actually amazing. Great use of reverb for the incantation while the score swells before the spell to really hype it up. Then once the spell is ready, the crescendo-ing music syncs up with a , passionate vocal delivery of "DRAGON SLAVE!!!" right on the 1. (a bit of an anime trope but very satisfying when done right and unapologetically like here) Then perfect use of rhythm and dynamics... First, silence, then a synth wave swells up as the screen briefly goes red before we cut to Lina, triggering a sound stinger of those classic, glorious old school Japanese anime sounds, but it's only a tease, before BACK to the synth wave, reminding you that there's more power here, then BOOM, massive energy shockwave sounds get louder as you see the dragon slave barrelling towards camera... A few cuts where we hear the spell getting closer to the dragon, then ofc the instant dodge, and a big satisfying explosion in the sea. 10/10.

If you listen really closely to the BGM that starts at 3:16 in the clip, and know your music from the first two seasons, you'll notice way ahead of time what's coming up and start hyping for it, due to how the theme for that spell in particular was embedded into the track. It was a very, very well crafted piece of music to go with that scene. :)

Tsu... tsu... tsu... tsunamiiiiIIIIIIIIIII! Always love that part. The one who tried to get the fight away from all those ahem innocent civilians managed to get their whole town destroyed. Irony.

Easily my favourite dragon slave moment simply for the raw collateral damage alone

Yeah, and the fact that Filia is like.... " No thank you" and dodges it like it's a rock being thrown at her.

Something nobody seems to be noticing. When Filia comes jetting overhead, Zelgadis steps in front of Amelia to protect her.

@@7dayspking mangas I think, and in the anime too, I remember there was an instant where Lina was about to get step on by a dragon, but they jokingly made the dragon misstep for no reason just to miss her and bring up that nickname

@@KageNoTenshi Slayers originated as and the majority of Slayers is written in a series of stories serialized in Dragon magazine and later published in Light novels. Most of the mangas are short retellings or stories from the light novels or the anime series, with a handful of spin offs as well (medieval mayhem, Shin slayers, Super explosive demon story, light magic & Knight of the aqualord) Yeah they did that gag in the first episode of Slayers. In the light novels (Especially the Special series) they elaborate in more detail, including on the origin of these rumors.

Next episode, Filia was all like “I really didn’t mean to cause any damage to the port; that’s all on you” yet before Lina even does anything, she demolishes a couple of buildings, sinks a few ships who are just defending themselves from this golden dragon that appears out of nowhere and most definitely killed a few people who drowned as a consequence of her. I get that this is a bit of a point as Filia is naive and still egotistical in her views of humanity but geez.

@@7dayspking - I just rewatched Ep 2 and Filia TOTALLY shifted blame (in the sub anyway). She says that she had no intention of destroying the town and that it was Lina’s fault with her spells. And she may be technically right but she still instigated regardless.

@@marlepeace9844 Lina asks 'why were we attacked by a dragon Priestess' Filia says 'to confirm your power as I told you I would' Lina accuses filia of 'attacking the town to do that' Filia says 'It wasn't my intention to destroy the town, you did that with your spell Lina' then continues 'besides , if you couldn't handle that you wouldn't survive what's ahead'. Filia doesn't shift the blame because she's adamant and already was before attacking them that it was necessary and righteous and that's her excuse. There's no guilt or repurcussions she wants to shift, she has that attitude towards them the entire time. Where as Lina was guilty for destroying the town, she outright fled to another land to escape the blame after all. She tried to shift that blame onto Filia but got shutdown hard, because Lina has no argument about who destroy the town. That's just her personality in the stories. She always ends up trying to shift, deflect, hide or run from the blame and she's always causing damage.

@@7dayspking Well.. Filia did SOME damage, but Lina did far more. Gaurry blew up one of the ships. Filia... did a lot less damage than Lina and co did.

@@inanna4861 that's not exactly true, he's shown he care about filia more than he should, if you think about it, he really shouldn't care about what she thinks of him at all. She is, to him, just a young golden dragon priestess of the flare lord, but rewatch next, he did went out of character level of annoyance of her bad opinion of him, which again, he shouldn't, after all he almost wiped out her entire race single handedly when he was less than 1 year old. what does that mean however is up to interpretation, after all she never show up again except during the one panels

Gourry (the blonde guy) is the weakest member of the party without his magic sword, because linear swordsman in a party of quadratic wizards. Lina (the redhead), throws down with the setting's demon lords every so often and usually walks away from it, which is more than can be said for the other parties. She also has a tendency to cause maps to be redrawn when someone gets her sufficiently angry. Basically, 90% of the time the challenge for these guys is "not destroying it". The remaining 10% proves why being that powerful is sometimes necessary.
