THANK Fkn YOU. Best Drum breakdown ever ( for me ) i know there's a million metal djenty whatever breakdowns since, but that shit is simple, and lit and resolves into glorious chug. Also best opening. Oh, and for the record i knew of Slayer before they released an album, so if you think i don't know sht, wrong, seen them a over a dozen times a quarter of them in the 80s alone. I love that song, absolutely one of my fav Slayer songs by far. Not least every other song on that album. But that drum breakdown is my favorite ever. Edit: and actually the drum sound in general on that album is one of my favorite ever. dry, in the room to the face, dynamics are not buried by studio bs, it's all raw Dave. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

As for the Slayer solo(s). Actually both guitarist Kerry King & Jeff Hanneman (R.I.P.) on this song and usually in general the two guitarist go back & forth on the solos. If you were listening to this song with headphones the left channel would be the one guitarist solo then it would switch over to the right channel for the other ones solo, and they tend to to always go back and forth for their solos. So I think off the top of my head each player had basically 3 solos. I always thought it was pretty cool kinda like a solo duel type battle. With this in mind it really makes one appreciate the technicality they put into each of their songs.

Great Song! LOVED the Metal Church episodes as well. David Wayne had such a unique voice. It grew on me, but the first time I heard him sing, it was a little hard to take. Now I love his vocal style on those records. 🤘

This song scared the shit out of me in the 8th grade. The little kid screaming made me shut it off. Good call on the solo, George. The guitarists aren't the highest level soloists technically, but they make up for it in how unhinged their leads are.

"(the riff) Sounds like it's coming from a deranged person" He wasn't in the band when this song was written, but Gary Holt embodied that point if you ever got to watch him live. A fucken axe-weilding demon! 🔥

If Ryan and George were ever to get into Slayer, Seasons in the Abyss & South of Heaven are the "grooviest" albums. Dave Lombardo has so many classic fills & they are killer albums from start to finish.

This album start to finish is all bangers, just like Megadeths Rust in Peace and Anthrax Persistence of Time. 🔥 Fusrt time seeing them live was 90s clash of the titans. Alice in chains opened, then Anthrax, then Megadeth followed by Slayer closing out the show.

If you listen again, focus on the drums. Those extra double kick peddles are there where most bands and drummers would leave out , its outstanding from dave Lombardo. He is the godfather of drums and I think that some people don't appreciate the extra double kick and talent of him. Same goes with most slayer songs 👌

Expendable Youth oh damn I forgot about that one. I saw Slayer in ‘91 at the Ventura Theater in Ventura. I was paid 50 bucks by the manager to stand and guard an exit. I asked the Manager who I knew from the gym: “so you’re going to pay me fifty bucks to watch Slayer”?! My exit door was in front of the speakers and I chose not to wear ear plugs. You cannot drown out Slayer! I helped build the stage then break it down. 5 minutes later, Tom, Kerry, Jeff, and Dave all walked up to us after the show each holding beers asking if the sound was good enough. Just the nicest guys.
