    Cool stuff. Just a little advice from someone who grew up driving these. 1st gear isn't for taking off. It's for starting heavy loads rolling. 2nd is where you start. Also resting your hand on the shifter takes up the space between the forks and the sliding clutch causing unnecessary wear.

    @@willfrancone3908 just a little more advice from someone else who was raised on these trucks… please even if just to help out my Own insanity, always drop it into second gear before going into reverse OR FiRST gear and the trans wind do all that grinding like it did in the video. So many people treat these old Four Speed BullDog transmissions like a fully synchronized Honda five speed, and it really works on my OCD to see such things haha… very nice sounding engine though my friend, it’s music to my ears.

    @@Blobb2013 damn you are one lucky cat! Don’t get me wrong I love the old HiBoy Fords but I’d LoVE to have a 78/79 Truck. But yeah definitely give it a try, it will help ANY manual trans shift easier. I grew up on old Fords and Mack/International Dump trucks and road tractors and shifting into reverse and my take-off gear in that way has made life so much easier on me. Enjoy that old Truck my friend…. Btw, the best Street Stock Sled pulling truck we ever had was a 1970 Crew Cab 4x4 that my uncle had put and old step side bed on from an old K model International PickUp, he bought it when he was in high school “1979 or 1980” and replaced the 360 with a 427 out of a Police Cruiser and that truck would scream down the track and won money every time. He still has it but it hasn’t pulls a sled in at least 15 years. 1970 has my most favorite grille of all of them .

    Justine case is right. 1st gear is granny. Only used for heavy loads when starting off. Otherwise you start off in 2nd gear. As for resting your hand on the shifter, back when I had my F-100 390 ci, I rested my hand on my girlfriends leg. Life never got any better 🙂

  • @mtut

    @mtut

    Жыл бұрын

    There's no reason to double clutch; 2-3-4 are fully synchronized. 1 isn't in the normal shift pattern. The 390 doesn't need to "breathe between shifts." The same engine is perfectly happy in big cars with automatics. You can double-clutch if you want to, but why? To pretend you're driving a big rig? Now, if you want to pretend you are driving a big rig, you can also shift a T-18 without the clutch; it's not good for it, but if you can match rpms to road speed, you can do it. But you can also pretend you are driving a choo-choo train by chanting "chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga, woo-woo!" It won't hurt the truck either. But it doesn't make you a better driver, just putting on airs like that.
